The Explosion

A/N Skipping ahead by like, a lot. Because this is like a tongue twister, you might not get some people's names. Welp, this is also gonna be in Jay's POV, so enjoy!

To recap, Jay and Silver have been hanging out for about a year, maybe even longer, so they're quite close, and they've been through so much.

We all were barely out of town when something happened. I don't remember what happened, though. It was big, it was white. It was like a monster coming down on us. Er, no offence to monsters.

When remains of it cleared I seemed to be the only without really bad injuries, besides Slash.

I slowly stood up to my feet, flicking my hood off of my head. Near my feet some blood splattered onto the ground, but it didn't seem to matter.I looked around, my eyes falling on a bloody body, most of their right side covered in blood. With a terrible  jolt I realized that 'someone' was Skylar.

"No, no no no!" I yelled, running over to her. I swatted away some of the smoke that remained, as if that would make it go away.

Skylar slowly looked in my direction, her ears recognizing my voice. "I can't... see." she whispered. "Jay... I-I know that's you... I can't..." she slowly reached her hand up and I grabbed it, squeezing it.

"Help will be here soon." I assured her. "Don't worry, you'll be okay."

Skylar shook her head, her lips cracked and dry. "I wish... that I could believe you Jay..." her head slumped to the side and her hand went limp in my grip. Close to crying (I'm not ashamed), I realized her heart was still beating. She was still breathing, but it was only a few gasps every once in awhile. I was about to pick her up when I felt a hand touch my shoulder. At first I thought it was Silver, but when I turned around it was Slash.

"I told authorities." she said, her blood hair staying down instead of flying everywhere like it usually did. "They'll be here soon. Leave her here, we have to find the others."

I looked back from her to Skylar. Despite what had happened I had forgiven Skylar, but deep inside I knew Slash was right. If anyone else was as bad as her, they needed support, too. Reluctantly I got up to my feet, then looked at Slash expectantly.

"I found James, and he's no better off than Skylar is." she reported, running off into the smoke. I nodded quickly, following her.

"James!" Slash yelled. A small gurgle sound came in response, but it still took us a few more minutes before we found him.

"Come on, wake up!" I yelled, rushing to his side. "Don't give up now!"

James tried for a smile, "I'm still alive... don't worry." He was, in fact, barely alive. It looked like all of his organs near the stomach area had exploded. Of course they hadn't or else he'd be closer to death. But everything was bloody around that area. The only thing I could smell was blood, blood and death. Something crossed my mind, and a thought more dreadful than anything so far came to my thoughts."

See what you can do for him." I ordered Slash, "You control blood, you have to try something."

"Why?" Slash asked, "What do you have to do?"

"Silver wasn't next to me after this happened..." I told her, some of my hair falling in front of my eyes, "And I need to find her."

"Right." Slash nodded and I ran off.The wind, the smoke in my lungs, it couldn't have been good for me.

For anyone, actually. I believed all my friends were soldiers, and they would fight to the very end in a battle. But what about the battle against life? Would they make it if their health unstabilized so often? The thought of what could happen to all of them scared me, but I knew that there was one more person that had been with us, and she was still out there. The blood trickling down my arm seemed to increase as I ran, but my mind didn't exactly care. When it all comes down to it, logic can be useless. Sometimes it's helpful, but instinct and heart. That's what I went by, that's why I survived so long in the forest.

Sirens filled the air, police chatter went on and on and on. I must've been searching for at least twenty minutes, but I still found nothing. It seemed like everything was waiting for me around a corner, every tear I would shed would happen very soon. Then I remembered—the ring. If Silver was hurt it would count as being in danger, or so I hoped. I looked down at my ring, taking in a deep breath. Maybe it hadn't automatically shown me because she wasn't in any battle that could kill her, or she wasn't captured. I forced my ring to show me to her, because it was my only hope. Almost immediately the ring responded, dragging me along the bloody floor. I saw corpses, I saw red, what I saw was death. Dozens of innocent people—blown to bits. Unless you were there to experience it, you wouldn't understand the horrors I saw that day. But I knew one thing, that was no normal explosion, or bomb, or white flash thing. It was from the magic world. I've heard of the powers demons have. In a millisecond they could put up a guard against themselves to protect from any mortal item. James probably could've done it, but instead he was lying on the ground a ways away, dying. Slash had her hair, she has faster reflexes than I've ever seen. Her body is meant to give blood to her hair, not for it to fall out. My only guess was she had put all her blood into her hair when she saw what was going on, then transferred it back to herself. 'Course, that was only a theory.

"Silver!" I spotted her, swatting the ring to stop it from dragging me. I heard a small whimper come from her crumpled up body, and I ran over to her side, making it there in a heartbeat. I slowly moved her over onto her back, to put off any pressure on her front side. "S-Silver?" I tried again. I didn't want to think of what would happen to my friends if she... if she didn't make it.

When I flipped her over I wasn't expecting to see a bloody face looking back at me. The left side of her face had been blown up, blood splattering across it and her body. Her hands were bloody, her legs were scratched, her lips cracked and bleeding, and her body looked ready to explode.

"This is a pattern... you know?" I whispered quietly. All she did was look at me in a way that told me she was still listening. "Peace, then... then something bad happens...  I guess... this is my life now... we keep making the same mistakes, over and over again..." I closed my eyes, feeling tears stream out of my eyes. "I'm sorry I couldn't have done anything Silver." I said, my body beginning to shake. Opening my eyes I brought her up into a hug, crying even more."I.... sorry." she croaked, "Explosive... fault, mine..."

I shook my head, bringing her in closer so she could rest her head on the back of my shoulder.

"Not your fault Silver." I whispered, "It was some maniac's fault."

"Right... maniac... me..." Silver whispered. "Didn't... mean... to. I—"

"Shut up." I told her, clenching my teeth. "Don't you dare say that. If it wasn't you, you have nothing to apologize for. Now just shut up and relax."

"Look... your face..." she whispered quietly, her voice getting worse with each word.

Gently I lowered her away, my jacket stained with her blood. I made it so she could look me right in the eyes. She did what I least expected her to do. She smiled. Right in the middle of everything that was happening, she smiled. She slowly moved her bloody hand up to my face, wiping away some tears, but leaving a blood mark.

"If... I die." she whispered, her voice starting to lose its tone. "Carry out... mission. Wait for you."

I brought her in close again, her entire body going through a series of spasms every once in awhile. But oddly enough, I was grateful for them. Silver's breathing was so shallow, so quiet, so light, that I couldn't even hear it. The spasms told me she alive and fighting, which was a relief for me. I kept one hand around her waist and one hand on her back near the neck. I wasn't letting go of her, not for a long time. I felt my eyes grow heavy, the pain in my arm finally catching up to me. But still I sat there with Silver, making it my number one priority she would not fall. After hours I heard footsteps, and I knew it was someone who could help. I don't know how, but I knew it was someone who would not destroy us. My strength failed me and I fell to the ground, my last sight being Silver's bloody but still smiling face, just before I closed my eyes...
