8 ~ Easier Said Than Done

The wind howls. It's like a mini tornado. I set my phone down as I feel someone approach. The glass table on the porch shakes violently and so do I. A golden jacket appears on my shoulders and I thank Leo. I huddle on the porch bench and await the intruder.

"You okay there?"

"Peachy" I answer.

"I'm sorry, Mavis"

"Do you really mean that? Considering you blatantly ignored my pleas"

"I was out of control and I'm sorry about that"

I let out a bitter laugh. "Out of control you say. You promised, Mason. And you of all people should know how much I hate it when people break thier promise"

"I know, I know Mavis, but it's not that easy"

"How so? All you needed to do, is not think about it"

"Easier said than done, you know. They lied to me"

"Sure they did. But that didn't mean you could break your promise or hurt the people who've loved and raised you your whole life"

"I was ten Mavis, and you where just seven. All I knew where pinky swears and hope to dies"

"So you're tryna say that you lied as well? Mum and dad love you, Mason. You know that"

"Maybe. Maybe all they've been doing is pretending"

"Why do you think so lowly of yourself? The fact that they didn't cast you to the curb the moment I was born should send a message. All these years, they never treated you differently. Not even once. You have no reason to doubt them"

"Look, I came here to ask for your forgiveness and not for all your wise sister talk"

"Well you can't have it"

"What?"

"You can't have my forgiveness. Not until you forgive our parents"

"Mavis c'mon, I don't want us to fight"

"Neither do I. But I don't want mum and dad to be hurt either. Think of it. It's hurting you too, isn't it?" He looks away, pain flashing in his eyes. "I know. So why not put us all out of this misery. At least apologize for the hurtful things you said. They weren't proper" I beging to leave. "Then I can think about your request"

A gust of dust wind, zips past me and into the house. The back doors of the house shake. I sneak inside the house, dropping my jacket on a nearby couch as I watch the wind dissipate to reveal....Jenny?! She hugs my mother and they smile at each other. Do my eyes deceive me? What's she doing here?

I listen intently..."Your Highness, I heard...she now knows the truth" Jenny speaks.

"Yes. I know it's hard for her. I can't even imagine. But I love her so much" my eyes water at my mothers words.

"I understand" she does?

My mother stretches out her hands. They're glowing? A brilliant amber engulfs her palms. "She has to leave for Allozan, but I don't know how to persuade her. Maybe you could help?"

"I'd be honored, your highness"

"Thank you. Would you want your real look before you face her, or do you want to speak with her as Jenny"

"I'll go with my real look. I think we should start leting her see the truth. Besides, I believe she already has a hint" a mischevious smile spreads itself across her face as she turn her head ever do subtly in my direction.

Woah...how did she know?

A sad smile appears on my mothers face and her eyes glow the same amber in her hands. A few gestures of her hands, and Jenny is covered in specs of amber, slowly but surely transforming....woah.

"Jenny?"

Jenny....is no longer Jenny. Her curly short brown hair is now long. Not just long, nerve reckingly long. It goes past the back of her knees in the longest braid I've ever seen. Loose srands fall on either sides of her ears. Her ears...oh my goodness. They're long and pointy....I've read books and watched movies. I'm pretty sure she's an......elf? This is crazy, because I love elves, and it just happens that my only girl-friend is one. Her eyes have changed from the common brown to a steely grey. And don't even get me started on her clothes; Brown combat trousers, and a yellowish orange jacket. Black boots...splendid.

"Princess Maraja..." she bows as I approach them. "I understand you might be a little confused?"

"Understatement of the century"

She gives me a slow smile. "I am Thora, princess of Holex; city of air. I left my home to explore and take a break from my family..."

"Aren't we all" Azar appears around a corner. I ignore him and gesture for her to continue.

"My elf senses led me to your mother, princess Asherah. She welcomed me, but I could not walk on the streets of earth looking like this. Your mother helped me disguise myself as an ordinary teenage girl"

"So you're an elf?"

"Part elf, part bender"

"Part bender?"

"Yes, I'm also an air bender"

Azar stands beside Thora. "What's up, princess?"

Thora stiffens. "Thora is fine. And I'm doing very well, thank you"

"Do you really have to be so formal? You've been in earth for a while, haven't you? And you even go to that dreadful place...what's it called again?"

"You mean school, Azar" I answer with a smile.

"Yup, that's it. So why are-"

"That's enough Azar, give her a break" he rolls his eyes and retreats to a nearby couch. "So, Thora. Did you know I was Maraja? Like when you where.... you know, undercover as Jenny? All the time we spent together, did you notice anything?" I place my hands in my hips.

"No. I knew your mother had a daughter and she was here, but I had no Idea it was you. I sensed things sometimes though..." I raise an eyebrow, daring her to stop. "Sometimes when I was with you, I sensed things. Like some sort of power, but it would only last a second or two. I was never sure that's why i didn't tell you" she looks away.

I exhale. "Whatever..."

"We need to leave, Maraja"

"Seriously? You too? Look I know my mum told you to do this, but you don't have to" I cast a quick glance at my mum.

"Wether or not she told me, it's still what has to be done. Please. The four lands are in danger, and so is earth. We need you"

"Listen to her, sugar" Leo? "The one and only" I really don't want to leave. Where will I even go? I don't know the way. "Thora, Aerwyna and Azar are from there. Not to mention your mum and your dad. You're in good hands..." you're right. That reminds me...

"Mum. Dad. You never did tell me where you went to those few days"

"Dear..."mum attempts.

"Tell me"

"Okay..." she looks back at dad. "You where sick that morning, and the sickness was a sign that you where getting stronger. It sent a very powerful signal across the four lands. Every magical creature felt it...your power. We where afraid Griffon would use it to track you, so we left for Allozan. We followed the shortcut. We tried dampening the signals, but it was too powerful. We managed to block a small portion and fortify our house, because you where here"

"That's why the lightening struck house after house, trying to find you. If we hadn't block the signal at all, he'd only need a single blow at our house and that's why we fortified it as well" dad explains.

"So that's why our house was left untouched....you didn't think about the other people? Aunty Lauren and Uncle Bray? Donny? Angelo? Even the people that loves around us...didn't They deserve to be protected?"

"Lauren and Bray came with us, Mavis. We didn't have enough power to fortify all the houses, even if we did, you where our top priority. If he'd gotten to you, he'd still have caused destruction. That's how Griffon is" dad retorts.

"So aunty and Uncle know about all this? Donny too?"

"Your uncle and aunt are gifteds as well. But Donny and Angelo know nothing about it. Although they should now. We all agreed to let you all know when we got back"

"Sweet..." I douse my words in sarcasms. "It's all good here. I totally understand everything"

"Maraja-" Thora begings, but I cut her off.

"I'll go" I simply state.

Azar chokes. My mother's eyeballs threaten to pop out. Dad's breath hitches. Thoras composed stature sags as if a dumbell was removed from her and a glass shaters in the kitchen.

I deadpan as everyone stares at me as if I just told them that money no longer exists. A few moments later, Aerwyna pokes out her head from the kitchen with a sheepish smile.

"Sorry..." she wispers.

"Sorry for what?" I ask.

"I might've broken an expensive-looking glass vase"

"That's ok" I dismiss. "Soooo is this gonna go on, or am i gonna get some advice from y'all"

Aerwyna hands Azar a glass of water. "Damn, I didn't think it'd be that easy" she dumps the remaing on his head. "Hey! What was that for?!"

"You talk too much. Get out"

"Uh, no can do, sis. I'm staying right here"

"Dear, thank you so much" I'm distracted from the squable of the twins when my mum embraces me.

I give her a small smile.

"I know your father and I did you wrong by keeping all this a secret for so long, but I want you to know that we love you. We love you and your brother so much. And that's never going to change"

"I love you and dad too"

"Here we go" Azar let's out a groan and Aerwyna hits the back of his head.

"So. How's this gonna be?" I ask placing both hands on my hips.

Mother and Thora exchange a look. "We'll need to get to Allozan through the acient way"

"And what's that? Or where's that? You get the drift"

"I don't exactly know..." Thora replies, staring down at her fingers.

"What?!" I exclaim.

"Well, sign me up for the red coffin then"

"Azar!" Aerwyna breaks the glass cup on Azars head.

"Mother of death! That hurt!"

"Shut your mouth!" Aerwyna screams.

"Okay! Fine!" Azar surrenders...I think

"But I can try to find it. It's said that an elf guides the entrance, so I believe I will be drawn to it"

"Seriously?! Are you even sure about that?!"

"Not entirely"

"Mum! You and dad left for Allozan the other day. Why can't we just take that route instead"

"We could only follow that route because we've been there before" dad clarifies.

"But you live there Thora. Aerwyna, Azar. You all live there. So why can't you use the route?"

"The elders hide all those information from teenagers like us. Your mother and father can go in and out freely because they are trusted by the elders. Teenagers according to them, are known for being careless, rascally and going rogue, therefore such valuable information is hidden from us. We all got here with the help of the steward of Allozan, knowing that there's a risk of not being able to return to our homes. Right now, the only choice we have is to search for the acient passage" Thora's hands remain glued to each other in front of her.

"And if we don't?" I ask hesitantly.

"We will" Aerwyna assures.

~~~
"C'mon, Mavis. We're going to a magical kingdom not to rob a bank" I glance at my clothes; black parachute trousers. Black t-shirt. Black boots. Black back-pack and a black bandana around my head. "What's with the all black theme? People are gonna think you're in a cult or something"
"Let them think, Angelo. I don't really care" I answer, retying my bandana.
"The pringles are mine!" I hear a shout from across the kitchen and my brows furrow.
"Is that Mason?" I wisper.
Angelo gives me a small nod and bends down to tie his lace. I tip toe to the shouts.
"You can't take the shortbread and the pringles!" Donny shouts.
"Oh yes I can! And I will!" A moment before he launches at Donny, I decide to intervene.
"What's going on here?" I take a look at the kitchen counter. "What's with all the food?"
"We're packing, BF. You don't want starve out there, so you?"
"Donny..."
"Hush...we're coming and there's practically nothing you can do about it"
I steal a glance at Mason. "He's taking 'em!" I alert Donny and Mason let's out a groan as Donny geabs the pringles from him.
"C'mon sis. I know you're mad at me, but the food has nothing to do with it"
"Whatever"
"You ain't going no where!" My head snaps up in the direction of the shouting.
"Ugh...what is it this time?" I walk back to where Angelo was.
"The biscuits where my idea!" Angelo practically screams.
"I don't care!" Luca screams back.
"What the heck!?" They both deflate at the sound of my voice.
Luca and Angelo exchange a look before rushing for me at the same time. Angelo gets to me first and Luca curses under his breath.
"These are for you..." he hand me a box of chocolate biscuits and I collect them.
"Thank you, Angelo" I give him a small smile.
"And this is yours..." Luca hands me a metal block with a cream button in top, and rectangular opening in front.
I press the button and a delicious looking cookie pops out of the opening. "Woah..." I taste the cookie and I close my eyes as the sweetnes and butteryness engulfs me. "This is so good" I open my eyes to see Lucas smug smile and Angelos scowl. I honestly don't know what the problem is with these two. I just love these cookies so much. "Thanks" I give Luca a wide smile. "Both of you, thanks" I smile and walk away before I'll have to deal with another persons screams.
~~~

"Sup, spell"

"You know, I finally found out why you call me that" I answer absent mindedly while staring at the necklace I hardly take off. The necklace he got for me. The diamonds reflect my tense face.

"Oh? Is that so?" He sits beside me, the swing dipping further.

"It is. I have magic, don't I? So that means I can cast spells and change things...right?"

He inclines his head to the side in thought. "That's just a rough estimate. I call you spell because I want to and because you are power itself"

"Sure dad"

"What? I speak the truth"

"Uhun...So what's your gift?"

"Me?"

"Yeah, you. You're a gifted right? So what's your gift?"

"Well, if I told you, you wouldn't believe me"

"Dad, after everything I've witnessed this week, I would believe literally anything you say right now"

"Kay. I can read minds"

"Really now?"

"Uhun. Hmmm I can tell you what you're thinking. Wait..." he closed his eyes for a brief second. He gives me a mischevious smile. "Luca, huh"

"Dad! Not you too!"

He let's out a hearty laugh.

"And no, that was not what I was thinking about. You don't want to tell me, do you?"

"When the time's right spell, you won't only hear, but you'll see your old man in action too"

"Dad you're not old!"

"I'm not?" He says in mock horror.

"No, you're not!"

"Well, I'll take that as a complement. I guess that's why your mum fell in love with me" he gives me a wink.

"What? But mum said you fell in love with her"

"Really now?"

"Yup. I really missed you dad. Before you came back, I couldn't recall the last time I saw you. I was so elated to see you.." I trail off.

"Dear, I'm so sorry I'm never there for you. It breaks my heart, believe me. Whenever I think of you and your brother, I just wanna throw all my work to the curb and be with you guys....I just love the both of you so much..."

"It's okay, we love you too"

He takes a deep breath. "So how bout you tell me how and when y'all found out about Mason"

I give him a shrug. "He was ten and I was seven. Mum was out and you where on another business trip. We where fooling around the whole house...we found ourselves in mums room but we didn't exactly care. We where playing swords or something and Mason knocked the drawers over. Papers and stuff where scattered....we where panicking, so we started arranging, making sure everything was organised, then Mason called me. He said I should come look at what he was holding; the adoption papers. I didn't understand much then, but one thing I knew was that he wasn't happy about it. So I made him promise me. Promise that he'll forget about it and move on. As I grew, I knew it wouldn't be easy. I knew he'd talk eventually, but I didn't expect him to do it the way he did it"

I feel a hand on my shoulder. "It's okay...it's not your fault so don't go around thinking that way. Yes, your mum and I felt kind of empty, not being able to have children. But when we adopted Mason as a new born, we where filled with so much joy. We where content, but sometimes I would catch your mother holding him and crying, wishing he was hers. Then Calypso came up with a solution and...here you are. We never stoped loving your brother, Mavis. Not even for a second. And I hope he realises that"

"He will"

"Yes. But for nowwww," he as with an exaggerated drag. "You have like two world's to save,"

"Seriously, dad?"

"Uhun. C'mon, I'm sure everybody's waiting for you"

We walk back into the house. I feel better now. Talking to my father has given me a little bit more strength to live by. I don't know much about all this supernatural stuff. I mean sure I've seen a lot on tv and in books, but I don't think much of that applies to real life. Whatever the odds, I just hope I'll be able to save the world....
