Chapter 11

---Thorn's POV---

My head felt like it was about to explode, literally. I could feel every thump created by my heart as I rubbed soothingly against my temples and ignored the eyes on me. This- This is all just too much. I came here to seek help for Blake, find a pack for him so he could learn to control his animal but this....

I sighed and leaned my head against the cool window, looking at woodlands outside and the countless of Fae scattered between them, urging the plants and trees to heal and become normal again. They were bringing light into this darkness, returning the fauna from the death.

Death. My father is...Death itself. My eyes flickered up slightly and focused on my reflection instead of the world outside, watching those dark eyes narrow and the blue spark vividly.

I imagined I got my blue eyes from my mom. Even in my head, the tittle felt strange and I knew I couldn't get the words from my lips even if I wanted to. "I never had any parents...I don't even know what to expect from them. All I saw were people dropping their kids to save themselves when it came to it."

And now I had m-my father standing in the very same room I was in. Bidziil and his brother had taken a few steps back to give us some privacy as they started a whispered conversation between themselves, occasionally glancing our way.

Even with all these questions bubbling up inside my head, the need to get answers, to just know why? Why did they leave me there? Why was my parents' love something to be frowned at? And what exactly am I?

I shivered as I felt a presence behind me, familiar yet unknown. My breathing hitched slightly before I slowly lifted my head to stare at my father in the window's reflection, watching his expression change from nervous, happy, excited and sorrowful to downright anxious.

"Your mother was amazing when I first met her..." Jason murmured as he slowly walked beside me, folding his arms behind his back as he watched the trees react under the Fae's touch, twisting and growing into a sea of green leaves.

Slowly, my body turned his way as I stepped back and took a seat onto the armrest of the couch, resting one of my legs on it too so I could place my chin on top of my knee. Realizing slowly but surely that this was my father. My dad.

"Why?" I asked, clearing my throat when I realized my voice came out chocked and raspy. Jason glanced my way as I continued,  "Why weren't you two allowed to love each other? And why did she dump me there?"

He sighed deeply, closing his golden eyes for a moment as his shoulder slouched a bit. "You must understand one thing Thorn; if I had known that...she was with child...I would've done everything, anything to keep you both with me. Like I said, she just stopped coming to our spot and, well...I never heard from her since."

I let my eyes flit over his expression, my own heart clenching at the sorrow and heartbreak he tried to hide, the anger burning in his eyes and the anguish he must have felt when I changed, knowing that everything he thought was real, was all a lie.

"Let me start with your first question." He sighed again before walking to the couch on the opposite side and took a seat, rubbing his hands together. "After the realms were made and filled with creatures like humans, vampires, Fae and so on, they all created their own deities, their own gods."

I felt shocked and it must have showed because a ghost of a smile fluttered over Jason's face as he nodded. "I know it's strange and not what most people believe but it's the truth. Every god out there whether they are Greek, Celtic, Indian, Roman or whatever culture; they are created and nurtured by people believing in them.

As soon as someone believes in something else and makes that belief their religion, a god is formed. True, they're incredibly weak compared to the other gods but as more and more people believe in them, they grow stronger and stronger." He stared at me, probably to see if I understood so I nodded slowly.

"So...if I were to believe there are no gods..." I started curiously, since it wasn't far of the truth. All those times I heard the humans harping on about their gods and how they would be our salvation, I never saw them lifting a finger to help their believers, to save them.

Jason chuckled, a deep and gravely tone as his lips curled in a slight grin. "Would it surprise you that there is such a deity? We name it The Source, since it created all of us. Even if all the creatures lose their faith in their gods, they still provide nutrition and strength to the Source and in turn their gods."

"Oh..."

He chuckled again at the confusion on my face before he sighed deeply and rubbed his hands over his face. "Soon after the gods settled in, they made their own rules to govern their realm. The unnamed God Christians believe in doesn't want his messengers, or Angels, to involve with someone else." He caught my scrunched up nose and nodded, "It's complicated and part of what the believers invented."

I was silent all the way through as Dad talked and explained everything; how he was lonely since no god wanted to even be in the presence of Death, how he was shunned from society until my mom came along.

"She was incredible, never had any prejudice towards anyone really. She believed that people should always get the chance to explain things, to create their own destiny. Not what any god wants to hear now..." He smiled faintly, his eyes moist before he blinked a few times.

I shuffled a bit closer, still hesitant but knowing I could trust my father...he was speaking the truth all the way through.

"What happened? You mentioned that she didn't show up anymore..." I stopped, unsure how to finish the question. This conversation must be stirring up some bad memories... Jason sighed deeply and leaned his head back, as if asking for strength before he stood up, facing the windows yet again.

"She send me a message, telling me to stop looking for her, so I did. Now I realize the message wasn't even hers to begin with. It's the other angels who act out in the name of their god." He growled, eyes burning brightly as his frame shivered. I could hear whispers echoing all through the room, the lights dimming faintly before Bidziil's brother glanced up.

"Keep it down a bit will you? I don't exactly want to see any undead lingering here after you're gone." He said while pointedly looking at the shivering lights before father took a deep breath and calmed down.

The room was silent for a moment longer before I realized something and slid of the seat, feeling my own anger bubble up. "She didn't want to leave you...leave us behind, did she? The Angels forced her..."

Jason nodded, glaring at the ground as his fist clenched tightly. Memories of how I had struggled to survive flashed through my mind, how I had to run for my life as a toddler and how I believed that everything was my fault. That my weird eyes and my looks had made my parents get rid of me.

"Thorn, calm down... Relax." Bidziil's voice snapped me out of my furious haze, only realizing now that several entities were swirling around in the room, hissing angrily as they zipped through the air. Both Ye'iitsoh and my dad watched curiously, their eyes flashing from me to the entities I had summoned.

A warm hand landed on my shoulder, my eyes shooting up towards Bidziil's face and a rare flush spread over my cheeks as I felt his other hand rub over my neck towards my cheek, rubbing over the heated skin as he chuckled.

"Ahum...it seems we have some catching up to do." Jason's voice remarked beside us, the pointed clearing of his throat left nothing to the imagination and I couldn't help but grin cheekily at Bidziil. Looks like my dad was the overbearingly protective type.

I almost gleefully rubbed my hands together because I still had to get back at Bidziil for his teasing in his family's presence. Maybe dad could help me with that, make Bidziil sweat a little bit.

---Blake's POV---

Being unable to communicate was really annoying, as well as the fact that I was still learning to control this body, let alone my instincts. My nails clicked on the floor as I sniffed around, trying to find a way to relieve Thorn's tension as well as the bothersome growling inside my head.

One of those entities swirled closer to me, making me curl my lip up to bare my canines. I know it didn't mean any harm and I was playfully daring it to take things further, even nipping at the damn thing as it yanked at my fur before dashing away. Chuckles filled the room as I chased after the blue wisp of light before grumbling under my breath when I realized they were laughing out loud now.

Well, at least they weren't acting all depressed anymore!

Thorn smiled warmly at me and nodded softly as he calmed down, the entities disappearing with a high-pitched whisper that honestly hurt my ears a little before the room was once again silent.

Until I took a few steps forwards and tripped over my paws again. I huffed in annoyance and grumbled louder as they laughed louder, that strange man that was introduced as the brother of Bidziil even had to hold onto his knees to guffaw out loud!

Shaking my fur out, I quickly made my way to the tall and muscular man, seeing that he still was roaring with laughter. A sneaky thought fluttered through my mind as I circled him and glanced at the others before catching Thorn's eyes. I bared my teeth in a wolfy grin before I let the wolf inside come to the forefront.

And I might have nipped at the globes in front of my nose...but it was a playful nip, honestly! I zipped away through the hallways, aware that now the others were laughing even louder as a string of curses poured out of the guy's mouth.

I snickered and flattened my ears slightly as I ran off, wondering where the man learned so many expletives. He would surely put any sailor to shame! Slowing to a trot, I sniffed the air a few times and felt my wolf nudge to the forefront, sniffing and lowering my nose as I picked up an interesting scent.

Following my nose, I came across the kitchen and felt my stomach grumble loudly. Nobody was here, so I quickly snuck inside and ran to the nearest countertop, jumping up to see if anything was on it. On my second try I spotted some raw meat on a plate, next to a glass and a bowl of something but that wasn't important now.

Meat!

The glass shattered as  I clambered half up the counter and snatched the steak of the plate with my teeth before I let out a small whine when I was scruffed rather roughly and glanced up in a pair of forest green eyes, which were glaring down at me, or rather the steak that was dangling between my jaws.

"That's mine!" The man snarled lowly, my wolf reacting instantly with a low growl of his own. He tilted an eyebrow and lifted me higher so my front paws weren't touching the counter anymore and we were now face to face.

Well, face to muzzle to be precise. As he made a move to grab the meat, I growled lowly and bared my teeth, jerking my head slightly so I had a larger part of the meat in my mouth.

The stranger's nostrils flared, his blonde hair fluttering over one side of his shoulder as he inched closer to my muzzle. "Don't. You. Dare." He snarled with authority in his voice, making me realize two things. One, this man was a wolf, like me and an high ranking one at that, maybe even an Alpha.

The second thing was my wolf's wagging tail and the mischief I felt bubbling up inside of me as I thought, "Not my alpha." Looking pointedly at the man and giving him my best grin possible, I quickly inhaled the meat with a few greedy gulps and licked my lips tauntingly.

What's the big bad wolf gonna do now huh?

He snarled and shoved me away, my paws stumbling slightly as I caught my balance before looking up to realize he had shifted in an enormous blonde wolf. Who was by the way looking quite murderously at me.

Oh...didn't think that out quite well...

Before he could pounce at me, I ducked under the large wooden table to the other side, letting out a barking laugh when I heard him try to snatch me, only to bump into the table head first.

Fruits and vegetables rolled onto the floor as the wolf shook its head and snarled venomously before it darted around the table. I yelped and scrambled away in a scary game of cat and mouse, though my wolf was oddly enjoying things. It was like he enjoyed questioning authority, like the one this wolf and Bidziil's brother exuded profoundly.

I skidded to a halt and jumped to the other side of the table when the large wolf jumped across it with a howl, bumping against the table and sending it skittering across the floor. My mouth was opened, tongue lolling out in excitement before I froze, unconsciously lifting one of my paws slightly.

The other wolf followed my gaze and froze as well at the sight of a whole pork ham rolling to a halt between us. My mind faintly registered the other hams looming over our heads and the rope still tied to the hunk of meat lying there, so it must have fallen down when the other wolf jumped over the table, probably knocking it off the drying rack above our heads.

Meat! Mine!

As if our wolves thought the same thing, both of us bolted for the ham and ended up crashing together in a growling pile of fur and paws, snarling and shoving at each other, snapping when one wolf got too close to the meat.

I was now pressed against the floor with the blonde wolf looming above me, growling and snarling while I shoved him away with my paws before a loud and piercing whistle had both of our heads turning around.

"What the hell is wrong with you pups? Look at the state of our kitchen!" Ye'iitsoh shouted out and waved with his hand to the chaos but I tuned out the rest of his rant as I spotted the ham in his hands and let out a small whimper.

Mine!

With another sharp and probably puppy-like whimper, I dashed for the meat with that blonde wolf on my heels before crashing against Ye'iitsoh's chest, who cried out as we all crash-landed to the floor. Avoiding the limbs and tangled paws, I lunged for the meat and was yanked back by my scruff before Ye'iitsoh cursed and dropped me to stop the other wolf from crawling all over him to get the meat.

"Darn' it Cole! Blake! No, cut it out!" He snapped while Cole and I tried to get to the meat as Ye'iitsoh did his best to hold us both back. There were flailing arms, curses and growls as all of us were scrambling around. Suddenly I was pressed down against the floor, a muscular thigh on either side of my shoulder, Ye'iitsoh's weight and his body containing me as he held Cole under one arm, sighing tiredly.

"God damn you two!" He grunted out tiredly, clenching his legs when I tried to crawl forwards. I whined and tried to wriggle away, stopping instantly when he pressed his hand down on my scruff and placed Cole beside me in the same position.

Both of us were panting and whimpering softly, trying to appease the larger man who held us down. My eyes glanced at Cole and noticed that he too was looking at me, slightly curling his lip though he couldn't hide the amusement in his now golden eyes.

My eyes looked down at his golden-blonde wolf, which was gorgeous to say the least. A chuckle above caught my attention and I dared to tilt my head slightly, flattening my ears as I glanced up at the sky blue eyes staring down at me.

"Are you two going to behave or do I have to carry you around like a pair of newborn pups?" Cole scoffed at Ye'iitsoh's remark, as if saying that it was quite impossible and I silently agreed with the bigger wolf. Carrying one of us, okay but both of us?

Both of us yelped when we were picked up and held against a muscular chest, sharing a look of shock as Ye'iitsoh walked around as if he wasn't carrying two massive wolves underneath his arms.

And now that he displayed this kind of strength and authority, I mentally winched as I recalled biting him in the butt...awe man! I'm in so much trouble right now!
