Chapter Fifty Five
Third person POV
Rya watched as one of the vampire females assigned by Zethar to take care of Kira injected her with gethum again. Kira screamed, and tugged at the chains, but Rya knew it was useless, and as expected she lost consciousness.
Rya approached the vampire that had injected her, "How many more of those are you going to give her ?".
The vampire answered, "As many as it takes to keep her unconscious till the alpha king gets here".
The alpha king. Rya had only heard stories about him. Zethar had said he was going to come to the pack to see Kira. But it's been four days and he was no where to be seen.
" Won't it affect her powers ? I've never seen any creature being injected that many times".
" She's the most powerful creature on earth ".
" That doesn't mean ...".
" Her body's different. Most would be dead by now, but she's still breathing. The gethum doesn't affect her like others, it weakens her and her powers, but with time she recovers both back. There's no need to worry ".
" I know there's no need to worry, but she hasn't gotten her powers fully. What if ...".
" You brought her here Rya", the vampire cut in, " You should have known exactly what you were bringing her into. Please excuse me, I have somewhere to be", she said, and walked away.
Rya's eyes went to Kira who was limp, and she looked away feeling something she didn't like curling round her heart.

Zethar was walking in circles. He had sent messages across the seven packs searching for the alpha king, but there was no trace of him yet.
He blew his cheeks out. The alpha king needed to be here. He was Zalas's son, a child of a demi god and an immortal, he was powerful and together with the healer they would be unstoppable. Not even heaven will be able to stop Zalas from rising again.
Someone knocked on his door.
"Come in", he ordered.
Nicholas strode into the room, concern on his face as soon as he took note of Zethar's troubled expression.
"Is everything alright master ?", He asked, shutting the door behind him.
Zethar sighed, "Still no sign of the alpha king, I don't know how long we can keep the healer sedated".
" Can't she bring Zalas back on her own ?", He asked.
Zethar waved his hand dismissively. "Drop the matter boy, what brings you here ?".
He bowed, "Sorry master. There's a bit of disturbance at the borders. I don't know what's going on there master, I wanted to ask for your permission to ...".
" Whatever it is handle it, I need to send another message across the packs again ", Zethar said dismissively.
Nicholas bowed again, and left.
Zethar sighed, and sat on the huge chair behind his desk. It's been years since he saw the alpha king. He could remember going as far as the mountains to look for him. He had searched for months, and eventually gave up and that's when the alpha king came to him. He had asked why he was looking for him, and Zethar wasted no time to tell him about what he planned to do with the healers.
The alpha king told him the plan would fail, and left and since then Zethar had never seen him again. That plan did fail, but not this one. Not this time.
He sighed deeply, and that's when he felt a presence in the room.
He jerked upright, his eyes flashing across the room but seeing nothing. He stood from his seat, his eyes becoming darker, and his canines elongating.
"Show yourself", he growled.
Without warning he was thrown like he weighed nothing across his room the wall. The impact was so great, that he made a dent on the wall.
He groaned, and got himself up.
"You're getting weak", A voice rang in the small space.
Zethar couldn't believe his ears, or his eyes because standing in front of his desk with his back turned to him was a towering figure. Tall, and intimidating, covered in black from head to toe. The alpha king.
His soulless body was still in disbelief.
The alpha king turned around, his face was covered in a mask as always, but his silver eyes were as bright as ever.
Zethar sank to his knees, and pressed his head to the ground. "My Lord", he honored him.
"I heard you've been looking for me ... ", The alpha king said, " Again".
Zethar looked up from the ground, but didn't rise to his feet. The alpha king took one of the letters laying on Zethar's desk. The letters he wanted to send to each pack. His metallic eyes skimmed through the page, and he scoffed.
"What do you want Zethar ? And this time, I hope you're not trying to waste my time. Because if you do, I will be leaving with your heart in my hand", the alpha king said to him.
Zethar was still shaking in disbelief, and fear.
"It will be worth your time my lord ".

Rya didn't know how or why, but her legs took her to the dungeon Devon was kept. There were two demons stationed outside his cell, and she kept thinking of the best way to approach them and tell them she wanted to see Devon without their keen ears outside the door.
She could easily take them out, but that would warrant Zethar's wrath. The last thing she needed was to make Zethar an enemy. Plus, he would question her loyalty. She couldn't risk it.
She reached them, her back straight and her head held high. "I would like to see Devon", she told them.
Surprisingly, they opened the cell for her without even asking why. She tried not to show her shock on her face.
"I would like you both to leave ", she told them, and again, they didn't question her or say anything they simply left. It was suspicious, but she let it slide.
She took in a deep breath, and got into the cell. It was dimly lit, but her eyes could see through the darkest of places. The smell of blood, and flesh filled the room, and it was so heavy that it clogged her throat.
Devon was chained to the wall, with deep long stripes across every inch of his flesh. His entire body was covered in blood, they looked so bad that she suspected if he was still alive but his chest was still rising and falling.
His head was lowered, and his hair tumbled over his forehead covering his face.
"Why did you come here ? ", He mumbled, his voice strained like each word that came out his lips hurt, and Rya was sure they did.
"Wanted to see if they've killed you yet".
He lifted his head. His face was caked with blood, and his right eye was swollen and red, while his left iris were the most crimson she's seen them. They had embedded solid gethum at different parts of his body, that was why he wasn't healing as quickly as demons usually did.
"You don't look so bad", she said, and he scoffed, his face moving down again.
She moved closer to him, and cupped his face in her hands.
His canines flashed. "I should've shoved a stake through your heart", he said. She knew if he had his strength, and wasn't chained he would've shoved her heart out already.
Her lips rose to a sad smile, "I wish you did Devon. But what did you think would happen ? Zethar is anything but a fool, and you know it".
She chuckled, " There are thousands of powerful hunters in safe land, and humans that are physically strong enough to take on vampires. I can't believe you really thought that Zethar would attack safe land. I guess love really makes one stupid".
He didn't respond.
The truth was, ever since she saw Devon in safeland she had always had a thing for him. It was against her nature, and she didn't know how to react to the foreign feelings he invoked in her. That revelation was something she would keep with her, till she died. Maybe that was one of the reasons she resented Kira so much.
He jerked his head away.
"I didn't mean for any of this to happen".
"He will kill you Rya. Zethar will end you himself", Devon told her.
" Aren't you afraid he would end you first ?".
"Death has never scared me".
"What about Kira ?".
A short pause.
" Aren't you afraid he would end her ?".
" Kira isn't dying anytime soon. She will live".
"Because she's mated to Zethar ?".
His jaw clenched, " Because she wouldn't let Zethar win".
She smiled, " So we're both going to die".
All he did was stare at her with his left eye.
She got closer to him, creating some space between her body and his wounds. "If that's our fate, I would like to do something I've always wanted to do".
When he didn't speak, she pressed her lips to his. He tried to move away, the chains shook with his effort. But she grabbed his face tighter, and kissed him like they were about to die the next second. He tasted like blood, but she didn't mind. When she was out of breath she moved away, panting.
His chest rose and fell faster than it had been, and his glare was harsher than the curse of the blood moon.
She smiled, "Not what I imagined, but it will do".
Then they felt it. A presence. Dark, ancient, and powerful.
Rya felt the weight of it pulling her to the ground. Every fibre of her being was pushing her to get down on her knees, and she found herself unable to keep standing.
She fell on her knees, her body shaking. Her eyes met Devon's.
The alpha king had arrived.
