Chapter TWENTY.

*Sola*
"I'm really hurt and disappointed that you would think of hiding this from me Sola. All these times that I've asked, you kept saying Justin's father is out of the picture. Now it turns out that the man I'm selling my company to, is the father?"
I kept my eyes downcast in shame and embarrassment as Mr Jimmy scolded me. The guilt I was feeling was so much that I couldn't bring myself to look at him straight in the eye.
"I'm really sorry, Mr Jimmy. I just... I just wanted to tell you, so you wouldn't find out from another source later and be furious with me." I explained in a sober voice. He'd asked me this morning if there was an affair going on between me and Alex. I'd panicked and confessed everything to him, worried that he would find out one way or another.
He sighed and took my hand from the other side of the table. I raised my head up to look at his tired scrunched face.
"At least, now I know that Justin belongs to someone. I've always been disturbed about him not having a father figure. And... I've even considered marrying you."
I opened my mouth in shock. Now I realized that Oluchi must have been saying the truth. Mr Jimmy was interested in me.
"Oh Sola, please do not be upset." he continued when he noticed that I was very shocked. "I'm just telling you how I feel. I didn't think you'd have a problem with.. Dating me."
"I'm sorry, Mr Jimmy. But the thing is.. I consider you as the father I don't have. I really cherish you but.. I don't think of you that way sir."
"I guess I.. Expected that you wouldn't mind the age difference. But... It's okay dear. We're still friends?" he asked, smiling softly at me. I smiled back.
"Definitely, sir. Thank you for being honest with me."
I said, as I placed my other hand on his in gratitude. We both smiled warmly at each other.
"So he is the man that dumped you and made you work as a lowly waitress, I presume? I think I should confront this Alex. He shouldn't have treated you the way he did. It was completely unacceptable."
"Don't bother yourself sir, at least he will always regret missing over two years of his son's life. Nothing can bring back those precious times." I said, trying to calm him down. He looked really angry. I couldn't shake off that feeling of guilt that because of me, he would be rethinking selling his company to Alex.
"I really wish I could cancel the deal with Williams, but... It's already signed and sealed my dear, I have even received payment and have started spending on the money." Mr Jimmy explained with regret and shame in his eyes.
"it's completely fine sir. I'm glad it's that way. I... I'll really miss you, Mr Jimmy. Thank you for being there for me. I really don't know what would have become of me if I hadn't come across you." I said, my eyes getting moist at the tender feeling that was swimming through me.
"I'm pretty sure you would have made it fine, you're a shinning star, Sola. Sooner or later, you were always going to shine. I'm just glad that I was lucky to meet you in the process. I don't regret meeting you for one minute. You've been the best employee I've ever had, and frankly, I don't think there will be anyone better than you after you leave." He was saying that because he knew I was closer to my goal of owning a clothing and cosmetics company, and when that happened, I would have to stop working here.
I swallowed as I stared at Mr Jimmy's red eye. He looked like he was trying so hard to hold himself together. I felt a single tear role down my left cheek and I quickly dabbed at it, not wanting him to see me cry. I stood up and went over to him, giving him a big, bear, father-to-daughter hug.

I glanced at my frenzy little boy as he played furiously at the back seat of the car. I'd just picked him up from his school and we were on our way to the banana Island. I'd always only heard stories about the houses in Banana Islands which was located in Lekki, Lagos Island, along the Ikoyi Road.
It was a community on its own but was only affordable for the rich and elite people in Nigeria. Mr Ben had told me years ago, that even a millionaire could hardly afford an apartment there yearly, much less a whole building. It was a whole capital on its own meant for Nigeria's biggest Billionaires. And it still felt surreal that it was where I was going to be staying from now on.
At least for the mean time. Immediately Amina had told me about the incident that happened with Clara, I hadn't wasted any time to call Alex.
I remember how scared and frantic I was that even when Alex arrived that night and pulled me into his arms, I hadn't been able to push him away. And so fast, Justin had woken up, ecstatic to see his father in his house that night.
I remember how it had played out that night.
I'd been crying hysterically while Alex had tried to calm me down.
"It's okay, sugar." He had said, patting my back reassuringly as I wept into his T-shirt. "I'm here now. I promise nothing will happen to you or Justin."
"How the hell do you know that?! Clara is crazy! And she is relentless! I've known her my whole life Alex! And I know what she can do. Oh, Alex.. I'm so scared, I will die if anything happens to my baby boy!" I'd replied, crying harder as he held me tight. No trace of mischief or arrogance on his face. He'd been the Alex I'd met the first time. The Alex who had rescued me and taken care of me.
After some minutes, he'd managed to calm me down. Then he'd asked me and Amina to start packing any loads we needed urgently so we could leave.
"Leave? Leave and go where?" I'd asked him, surprised.
"You're coming to my house Sola. You can't think I'll let you stay here where you could be in danger? Clara knows this place already." He'd said, spreading his arms to motion around the house.
"No. Alex. I won't come with you. You expect me to come and stay with you? Do I look like some sort of charity case?!"
"Sola, you're not listening. Please. Let's just—"
"I understand that my home is not safe, but I won't go to your place Alex. I don't want to be anywhere near you!."
He'd stared at me with pain, frustration and regret in his eyes. He didn't think I was going to let him easily run me over, did he?
"You're saying this because you're still mad at me, sugar. I swear, I'm really sorry that I hurt you so bad like that.. I should've trusted you, but I didn't. I treated you so bad! And.. I don't even know how you will forgive me when I'm yet to forgive my self for being so stupid and easily blinded. " He said remorsefully.
"I don't know if I can forgive you either, Alex. What you did to me... It almost destroyed me! Almost killed me. And my unborn baby. I thank God for bringing Mr Jimmy and Amina into my life because, if not for them, we wouldn't probably be here, talking and arguing. I would have been dead!." I'd hurled at him. I saw the color drain from his face. He looked like He was angry at himself
"I'm so sorry, Sola. I'm truly sorry. I'd beg for your forgiveness all my life if I have to. But please... I can't let you and our son stay here. And Amina too."
"Look, I can take care of myself. I already made a reservation at an hotel around Yaba area. That place is far from here, so we should be safe." I'd said in a final tone. Bridling no opportunity for arguments.
He had stared at me for a while, and I glared back at him to let him know I wasn't going to change my mind about moving in with him. I would break my arm first before that would happen.
Then he had picked out his phone from his pocket and moved away to make a call.
I'd sighed with relief, thinking he'd finally gave in. But he'd strolled back to me, then handed his phone over to me.
"You want me to break your phone for you?" I'd asked, sarcastically.
"Now's not the time to be funny, sugar. Just put the phone in your ear." he had said in a straight voice.
I'd reluctantly collected the phone from him.
"Hello?" I'd said once the phone was against my ear.
"Hi, Sola! It's Fayo speaking!"
Fayo? Fayokunmi?? Alex's younger sister?! Why would Alex tell her about Clara!
"I know you're getting angry and wondering why my brother would dare to tell me about the issue you're facing.. But believe me, I've been worried sick about you. I've been begging Alex since he came to Nigeria to tell me of your where abouts.
"Oh.. I.. I had no idea.." I'd said shyly.
"I know Sola. But Please I don't want us to waste more time talking on the phone. I want you to come stay with me in our Estate in Banana Island....NO. DON'T EVEN THINK OF REFUSING."
My eyes widened and I glared at Alex in alarm. I quickly dropped the phone and put it on hold.
"Alex why would you tell her about what happened?!" I'd asked angrily.
He shrugged, nonchalantly. "You wouldn't agree to come to my place, I figured you'd be safe at my sister's place. I can't let you go stay at some hotel, Sola. Please. Or you hate my sister too?" He'd asked, taunting me.
And so that's how I'd had no choice but to agree to go stay with Miss Fayokunmi .
She'd been so nice to me, Justin and Amina. She was also heavily pregnant. 7 months plus. She had said.
Made me remember how big I'd been when I was carrying Justin. Her husband, Kalu Okoro, had also been very nice and welcoming.
Their house was so big, it was like a castle. We had our own special quarters which felt like a mansion on its own.
Money Is Good. I thought to my self.
Soon, I arrived at her place, which was called William. They literally had their own mansions in their name.
I picked up my son from the car and placed the passage card Miss Fayokunmi had given me so I would be able to come and go and at my own free will, on the electronic gate.
I walked into the beautiful house and was welcomed by a big table feast with Fayokunmi, Amina and Mr Kalu on the table. Before I could get a hold of him, Justin ran to meet Snow, Fayokunmi's recently adopted puppy. Justin seemed to love the little dog so much.
"You're finally here! Come, come, we made this special delicacy just for you and Justin." said Fayo. She pulled me and took my bag from me.
"Wooow! This is so nice. But... Why?"
"I just want you to be happy silly! Now, which meal would you prefer?" she asked as Amina laughed amusingly at my stunned expression.
I was confused. I didn't get why she was being so nice to me. I smiled and scanned the table.
"I want the pounded yam and Egusi soup, stuffed with diced chicken and beef." I said. It was one of my favorite native swallows.
I smiled as she prepared the plates in front of me. I was so happy as I stuffed my face with the delicious food.

*Alex*
It was late in the night when I got to Fayo's place. Sola had just bathed Justin and was putting him in his pajamas.
Justin leapt from his mother's arms the moment he saw me.
"Daddy!!!" he screamed with enthusiasm, jumping into my arms.
I picked him up and turned him around, making funny aeroplane noises which made him laugh uncontrollably. He put his arms tight around my neck as I held him tight.
"How's my champ doing? I hope you haven't stressed mommy today?" I asked in cheerful voice, absently noticing that Sola had moved aside to avoid me.
After playing with him for some minutes, I went to meet Sola where she was busy arranging Justin's clothes.
"How're you, Sola?" I asked and watched her jump with surprise. I noticed the colour on her smooth cheeks. I knew she'd been blushing when I came in but I hid my amusement.
"Oh... Hi. Justin is getting ready for bed..."
"I didn't ask what Justin is doing. I asked.. how are you?" I said, raising my eyebrows at her. I almost groaned as she licked her bottom lip in nervousness. She was just so lovely and feminine. I noticed how her shirt strained against her full soft mounds, and how her trouser outlined her delectable hips and ass. Sola was temptation itself. She was a seductress without knowing it.
"I'm fine, Alex. Now you know, can you please leave?" she asked, glaring daggers at me.
I sighed and tried to take her hand, but she was fast and sidestepped me, moving closer to where Justin was.
"Come on, sugar. How long are you going to avoid me? How long do I have to beg?" I whispered low enough for Justin not to hear, but loud enough for her to hear. She ignored me and went to pick Justin up.
"It's time for bed, baby. What do you want me to read for you tonight?"
"I want mommy and daddy to read me Winkle Winkle little star." Justin said, I smiled at his childish innocence and moved closer to them.
Sola picked out a little book from the shelf and handed it to me, indicating that I should read it to Justin.
"Okay, buddy. Here we go....
Twinkle, twinkle little star..
How I wonder what you are..
Up above the world so high...
Like a diamond in the sky.." I finished.
"Daddy?"
"Yes, buddy?" I answered, stroking his face with all the immense love I had for him. My son.
"pwease, don't leave me and mommy." he said. My heart constricted with a feeling I couldn't quite place.
"Never. I will stay with you and mommy forever, darling." I replied, kissing his forehead. He turned to Sola.
"And you too, don't leave daddy." He said fiercely. I realized that Sola had really done a great job in raising Justin. He was a smart, bold and considerate little kid.
Sola was silent for a moment. Then she leaned in to kiss him. I didn't fail to notice how she'd ignored Justin's request.
"Goodnight my prince."
And we left the room, closing the door with a soft thud.
"I spoke with Mr Ben today at the Festac restaurant. He told me she had been fired months ago, after she was caught stealing from the company's money. He said he hasn't heard from her since." I explained to her.
We moved on to talk about a few things before we reached her room.
"I'll leave you to get some rest, sugar." I said.
"Are you still leaving tonight? It's late!" she said with widened eyes.
I smiled. Even though she was angry at me, she was still worried for my safety.
"Worried about me, angel?" I asked, smirking at her and moving in closer. She looked alarmed and moved back.
"I'm not your angel. And I'm not worried about you." she replied in a hard tone, glaring indignantly at me.
"10pm is not late at all, I've been on the road by 2am and even later than that countless times. You don't need to be worried. I'll be fine." she nodded her head.
"unless.... You want me to spend the night in your room?" I asked wiggling my eyebrows.
"No. I don't. Good night Alex." I laughed as she speedily opened and closed the door with a loud bang.

*Sola*
"Miss Sola, a lady Is here.. Asking to see you. She said It's urgent." Oluchi, my assistant and secretary said on the phone.
"oh okay. I'm coming down stairs anyway. I need to print some stuff. Tell her to wait for me at the cafeteria." I replied, ending the call.
I wondered who that could be as I grabbed my phone and the tools I needed. I took the free elevator and went to the waiting hall, where the cafeteria was located.
A beautiful woman who looked to be in her early thirties or close to, was sitting down on the sofa, sipping champagne. I wondered how she knew me because I couldn't recognize her from anywhere.
"Hello. Good afternoon, miss. I'm Sola Ojo." I said as I approached her.
She turned to me and smiled widely, before dropping the drink and standing up to give me a handshake.
"Hi, my name is Caroline. And no. You don't know me.. But I know you." she said. I noticed her smile looked fake and mocking.
I felt conscious of my self as she stared me up and down as if she was trying to understand something about me.
"Can I help you?" I asked warily, noticing the distasteful gleam in her eyes. She was looking at me as if I was covered in mud.
"No you can't. But you can help your self girl. You see... I'm Alex's girlfriend."
"What.. What do you mean?" I asked in shock and astonishment.
"Are you so dumb that you can't even comprehend? Okay. Let me spell it out for you. I'm Alex's fiancee." she waggled her finger in my face, showing off the ring on it. "See? He proposed to me. And we're getting married! And also... I'm expecting his baby!" she finished, hissing and snarling at me.
I gasped in shock. Pregnant for him?!
"I know you're in shock. But I just want to warn you.. Stay away from my man or you'll regret it!" she said with a hiss and picked her tiny bag and walked away, shoving my shoulder rudely with her movement.
So, Alex had a woman who he planned to marry and was even pregnant for him.
I couldn't fathom why my heart felt like it was going to break into pieces again.
