Chapter 5
"Wangji, Shufu," I greeted and looked behind me. Wei Wuxian was still at the door. I rolled my eyes and gently grabbed his arm pulling him inside.
"Wei Ying?" Wangji asked.
"Xichen, why did you bring him here?" uncle asked.
"Because he has some things to share with you and Wangji. He asked for my help and I will do so as best as I can. It would be helpful if you both would keep an open mind and listen to what he has to say," I told him.
Uncle sighed and took a glance at Wei Wuxian. He had his head low and he was shaking. I frowned and placed a privacy barrier around the room and brought him to the table to sit. I sat beside him.
"You can tell as much as you are comfortable with," I told him.
He nodded and looked at Wangji. My brother nodded once to confirm to Wei Wuxian that he has his full attention and will listen to what he says.
"Before I tell you anything, all I asked is if you could keep the information from leaving this room?" He questioned.
"You have my word," Uncle said.
"Mnn," Wangji nodded. My brother wouldn't spread anything anyway, he is to isolated to do that.
"So, after the Xuanwu incident," Wei Wuxian began, "I was brought back to Lotus Pier, I still had a fever after getting one in the cave. After some time I had recovered but my Uncle Jiang and Shijie went out of town for a few days. Madam Yu gave me orders not to leave the sect, so I did as she said.
While Jiang Cheng and I were training some disciples at archery, one of our younger disciples got taken. Wang Lingjiao and a group of Wens captured him because of a kite that resembled the sun but was just a one eyed monster...she then told Madam Yu that she was there in place of Wen Chao to seek my punishment for 'humiliating' Wen Chao in the Cave of Xuanwu and stealing his sword. Madam Yu fell for her sleazy words and she struck me several times with Zidian, on the highest energy level she had ever used before."
Wuxian stopped when Wangji and uncle looked at him in shock, "before?" Wangji asked.
Wuxian swallowed, "anytime I got into trouble at Lotus Pier, aside from kneeling, she'd use Zidian. I was nine, the first time she used it. She felt she had to punish me for already being ahead of Jiang Cheng in cultivating...calling me son of a servant and that I am nothing but useless trouble," he explained.
Uncle shut his eyes and took a deep breath. This was the first time he looked mad, and it was not at Wuxian this time, it was for him. Wangji was the same way.
"After she finished with Zidian, Wang Lingjiao asked Madam Yu cut my right arm off to have as a reminder...and then said she was grateful for Madam Yu's cooperation and told her that Lotus Pier would have the honor of being the head Advisory office of the Wen Clan...Madam Yu was furious. She struck her and was about to kill her when Wen Zhuliu stepped in. While her two disciples were fighting him, Madam Yu dragged Jiang Cheng and me to a boat and bound us with Zidian. She made me promise to protect Jiang Cheng even if it was the cost of my life..."
"...we ran into Uncle Jiang and Shijie. After binding Shijie with Jiang Cheng and me, Uncle told me to keep them safe. After a while, Zidian found us safe and unbound us. That was when Jiang Cheng and I went back and found everyone dead. Madam Yu and Jiang Fengmian lost their golden core to Wen Zhuliu before they were fully killed. Jiang Cheng blames me for the fall of Lotus Pier and the death of his parents."
"Don't tell me you believe him?" Uncle asked.
Wei Wuxian jumped a bit, "for the longest time I have," he answered honestly, "but Zewu Jun told me it wasn't my fault."
"It was not Wei Ying's fault," Wangji said.
Wei Wuxian nodded and felt a bit at ease.
"Wangji is correct, the fall of Lotus Pier was not on you. The Wens would have found a way to target Lotus Pier and they used you as their excuse...it was not your fault," Uncle told him, "when you are ready, you can continue."
Wuxian cleared his throat and began to speak more, "Jiang Cheng, Shijie, and I hid at an inn for a little while. I had to go out and get medicine because my Shijie got sick. When I returned, Jiang Cheng was gone. I found that he was taken by the Wens. So I went to Lotus Pier. I was found by Wen Ning, he helped me get Jiang Cheng back and the remains of Madam Yu and Sect Leader Jiang.
"Wen Ning took me to a secret post where he and his sister Wen Qing were staying. That was when we found out that Jiang Cheng lost his golden core to Wen Zhuliu," Wuxian said.
"He still has one," Wangji said, "seen him fight."
Wuxian sighed, "I asked Wen Qing if there was anything I could do to help him. She let me look through her medical books and scrolls. After a while, I found a scroll that would help, but it only had a fifty percent change of success."
"What? You didn't tell me that!" I told him.
"Ugh, sorry," Wuxian said.
"What did you find?" Uncle asked.
"Wen Qing and I tricked Jiang Cheng to going to a mountain. I told him it was where my old grandmaster would potentially be. We blind folded him and then Wen Qing pretended to be my grandmaster until Jiang Cheng passed out. She then called me and Wen Ning out. I went through two nights and a days worth of a surgery I could not use anesthetics for. I watched Wen Qing take my...golden core...and transfer it to Jiang Cheng...it was a success...obviously."
"If you gave it up that means...your sword and the resentful energy," Uncle began.
"After the procedure, I went down the mountain to wait for Jiang Cheng. Even after seven days he did not show. I went into a nearby tea house and it was filled with Wen Disciples. Wen Chao beat me, tortured me, and kicked me and all that. I told him I wasn't born in a sect so I never went through the soul calming ceremony. If I died I would come back as a fierce ghost and haunt him and his people...he was a bit shaken but took me up on his sword. When we were high up and over the burial mounds...he pushed me in. The resentment welcomed me and kept me from hitting the ground too hard.
"During those three months, I was in there learning to control it. Making the Amulet and Chenqing. My body is being held together by resentful energy because my bones aren't healing. Some of them are even ground to dust I'm sure. It hurts to used but it's the only thing I can use to make sure I can help my siblings. I can destroy the amulet but doing that will cause a great backlash and it will kill me in the process. The amulet is the only reason I am still alive.
"Jin Guangshan wants it and I refuse to hand it over. I'm the wrong hands it is dangerous. I have only used it once, which was at the sunshot campaign. Otherwise I have not used it. Zewu Jun managed to get me to open up and I asked if he could help me...I don't know if you can. I am broken beyond repair and I am in so much pain. I don't want to burden you people anymore that I probably already have."
I saw tears falling down my brothers eyes. I haven't seen him cry in such a long time. Even my uncle, he was crying. I could tell that he too, wanted to make things right with Wei Wuxian.
"Now you see why I brought him?" I asked, "I do not wish to punish him, I want to do as Wangji had wanted. Bring him back here, hide him, and help him through this and protect him."
"Wei Wuxian, we will do everything we can to help you," Uncle said, "you have my word. The amulet and the resentment, we will put aside for the time being so we can help you recover...I know you may not want to, but would you be willing to be examined by a healer, just so we can know how much we have to do to help you. We have things here in Cloud Recesses that can help you heal, even without a golden core."
I watched as uncle checked his vitals, "you still have a small spiritual energy in you. It is enough to help you with recovering," uncle said.
"Will the healer tell anyone?" Wei Wuxian asked.
"We will choose wisely on who will examine you and we will make them sign a waiver. If they break it, they will be punished accordingly," Uncle said.
Wei Wuxian nodded, "okay...but I do not look all that nice...and truth be told...I do not eat well anymore. I haven't eaten a proper meal in so long. I have to force myself to eat but in doing so, I throw it up..."
"So, you are slightly bulimic," Uncle said, "we will try to help you with that...I also want you to come to me, Xichen or Wangji if you ever need anything."
Wei Wuxian nodded, "also, one last thing...I do suffer from nightmares...so I don't sleep often."
I sighed, "we will do what we can. All we ask is that you trust us."
"You won't tell Jiang Cheng or my Shijie?" He asked.
"No," I said, "I know why you won't tell Jiang Wanyin. You told me he will think of his achievements as yours if he knows he has your core."
"We will keep it to ourselves," Uncle said.
