Ch. 2
As we walk, we enjoy the warm weather that comes with the start of summer. It is currently the end of May and weather keeps getting warmer and warmer every day.
"So Lauren, what are we doing for your birthday? The coven forbids us from leaving because you will ascend into your full powers, but at the same time you will be old enough to join me in the bar." I could tell Shauna had a plan for my birthday but I don't know what just yet.
"I want to go to Maryland to go to the bar but I know they won't allow it. I know you have a plan so just spill it woman." I bump my hip into hers, sending her stumbling a little bit. She laughs because she knows I have her figured out.
"Fine fine fine, I was thinking we would wait until after midnight and you have ascended we both can sneak away from the party and head into Maryland to party it up at the bar. Thankfully it will be just humans so it's not like we will stand out right?" she smiled like the Cheshire cat because she thinks her plan is flawless.
"That sounds all fine and dandy but what happens when people notice we have left the party early? Everyone knows after you get your powers you need to blow off some steam. It's not like I can claim to be tired and go to bed." I pointed out the obvious flaw in her plan, which was pretty big.
Being a witch that is turning 20 is a big deal at any coven because once you ascend you stop aging, your powers increase which means even more spells are available to your book, and you are able to find the one person made just for you. Some species like werewolves call them mates or soul mates, to the vampires it is their beloved, ferries and witches call them other halves.
My birthday was one week away, June 3, and I was about to ascend. I am scared as hell yet so excited because this is the moment every witch waits for. Between the power increase as well as the finding of your other half it was a very monumental moment for a witch.
Shauna was silent as we walked back to my apartment building, she was deep in thought because she kept scrunching up her nose and chewing on her bottom lip. I didn't want to get into trouble but at the same time I didn't want to stay here for my birthday.
"I think I'm going to try my luck, I'm going to call my mom and just flat out ask if I can go to the bar after I ascend. Dancing in the bar is a good way to blow off steam right? It's not like I have to use magic to blow off steam. I will just be full of energy and hyper that's all.
"You're crazy, you do that then she is going to know something is up and watch us even closer." Shauna complained.
"No just think about it, I ask her and she says no then explains why it's a bad idea right. Then I agree that she is right I will just go out another night because it isn't safe or whatever her excuse is. Then we say we are going to our special spot to go swimming and we just ditch. We can plant some clothes at the falls and bail. That way if no one can find us they won't be worried because they will think we are swimming. Its genius!" I cry out at the end of my little speech.
By now we have reached the apartment and are sitting on my couches in the living room, Shauna has her goodies spread out on the coffee table in front of her and I have the lasagna in the oven warming up.
"So you're saying as a 20 year old adult you are going to lie to your parents," she starts snickering as she's talking, "sneak out, AND go to the bar! You little rebel you! You have only been living on your own since you graduated high school." She finally burst out laughing as she rolls off the couch and thuds onto the hardwood floor.
"You're such a twot Shauna." I throw one of my pillows at her, picking her off in the head as she uses it under her head and just laughs even harder.
"Yeah but you love me." She suddenly pops up and scarfs down a cupcake in two large bites, looking like a chipmunk.
"Gross! What were you raised in the damn barn, bitch chew your food." I was so used to her gross eating habits that it didn't bother me but I still had to make fun of her anyways.
"Wamma eee mai eee ood?" she mumbled out through all the food in her mouth, and without warning she opened her mouth showing me all her partially chewed cupcake and icing. I roll my eyes as I get up to check on the lasagna.
"Just for that no lasagna for you!" I call out as I leave the room, my only response was a loud thump from Shauna jumping up and stubbing her toe. I could hear a muffled cry as I can just imagine her mouth full of food as crumbs fly out of her mouth onto my floor.
I shake my head at her antics, we have been best friends since we were in diapers even though we are polar opposites. She has nice olive skin with dark hair and dark eyes, where I am extremely fair skinned with an almost white blonde hair and bright green eyes. She is the loud friend and I am quiet friend but I am more outspoken then her. Some say I'm more confident then she is, but I am so much more insecure especially when it comes to my body.
She always gives me grief when I get down on myself when I gain weight because unlike her my metabolism is horrible. I sniff a cupcake and gain three pounds, but sweets are my addiction. That is why I work out as hard as I do, as well as go jogging. My stamina is amazing from all my running and I have a gym membership.
I pull the lasagna out of the oven as I hear a knock on the door, before I can take off the oven mitts the door opens and sure enough my parents walk in with my older brother. Now before anyone gets uppity, witches is a general term, when referring to a male they are a Wiccan.
"Hey mom pops, what's up Lance?" I greet everyone as I cut up the lasagna into squares.
"Oh you made supper how nice. Dish me up." Lance calls out as he plops his ass into one of my kitchen chairs.
"We aren't here to eat Lance get up." Mom smacks him across the back of the head. Lance grumbles as he sulks and rubs the back of his head.
"We are actually here to ask what you want for your birthday, we are headed to Maryland to get party supplies and do some shopping and just wondered if you wanted anything special." My dad smiles as he walks over and gives me a hug.
"Oh umm well a gift card for clothes would be nice, maybe some more books, oh and I really could use a new laptop if you guys are willing to spring that kind of cash on me. But other than that the usual bath salts, bubbles, and perfume." I smile as I list of the same items I ask for every year.
"Good she is cheap and easy." My brother chuckled at his own little joke.
"She better not be cheap and easy." My father grumbled out.
"Don't worry Mr Brazon your prude of a daughter is still a virgin, and I'm sorry Lance but not all of us can be like you." Shauna pipes up as she enters the kitchen, defending me as always. My brother makes a funny face, clearly disturbed by the info that has just been dumped on him.
"TMI Shauna, my son and husband do not need to know my daughters sex life, or clearly lack of one." My mom adds as she throws salt onto that wound and rubs it in.
My mom just insulted my sex life, it's not like there hasn't been guys but none I was interested in having sex with. But not like I will tell my family that information.
"We will take our leave now that we know what to get you. Remember the party is Friday night next week, it starts at 10 at the local ruins." My dad reminds me as he heads out the door, I know this is my last chance even though we haven't made plans I'm going to go for it.
