I steeled my gaze and looked at the chancellor instead, figuring this was my safer bet, Shauna grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze in support.

"Good afternoon, I am Donovan Lawson and I am here for the mate of Alpha Beau Daniels. No one will stop me from taking this child as I have business against the Alpha in question. The child will not be injured or harmed but I do require her for collateral." he spoke and finally broke his gaze away from me.

"We do not know of this Alpha Beau and if you don't already know this information but we do not allow anyone in our coven to be with their other half if they are a different species. So you looking for this person does not matter as she will never be with him. Please we will have someone escort you and your group off our coven lands." the chancellor spoke and motioned towards some of our stronger wiccan.

"She knows who she is. She does not feel the bond as she has yet to ascend. Also I am well aware of your silly little law as it is what cost the life of my sister as she was mated to a young man named Clayton. I have wanted revenge for this crime but my business with Alpha Beau takes precedence over my revenge." he smiled a not nice smile and looked directly at me again. "If you will not come up willingly then I will out you child." his warning was clear as day and it sent a shiver down my spine.

Thankfully Clayton piped up, "If she hasn't ascended then how does she know she is truly the Alpha's mate? I mean she could very well be mated to someone else." his logic saving my ass, and we both knew it.

"Yeah, if she hasn't ascended he can very well be pretending she is his." someone from the crowd agrees. The whole room bursts out in a chorus of ' yeahs' and agreements.

"If she truly is his mate then when she ascends she will feel the bond but in order to ascend she needs to be here. Plus how long is it until this person ascends?" the chancellor questioned Donovan, it looked as if I would be safe, for now any ways.

"Fine she will not reveal herself then I am forced to return for her. Know this Lauren Brazen you are not safe from me and I will be back after you ascend." with that him and the wolf vanish in super speed and out the door.

I feel everyone's eyes on me and I am totally embarrassed. Clayton was the first one over to me and wrapped me in his arms and started leading me towards the front door. People parted away from us like we had the plague. Before we could exit the chancellor's voice boomed through the building.

"Lauren Brazen, what do you have to say for yourself?" the silence in the room was deafening. Clayton whispers to me as I am in his arms.

"Lie, tell them you met a man named Beau but you didn't know you were his mate. I will cover for you and so will everyone else." he turned us towards the chancellor and quit hiding my face. I clear my throat so they can all hear me.

"I am so sorry chancellor, I did meet a man maned Beau but not once did anyone say anything about him being my other half. It is true that I have not ascended, and will not until Friday night, but I did not know this man was my other half." I could feel tears stinging my eyes, I hate being the center of attention and I absolutely hate when people stare at me, and Clayton knows this.

"I can validate Lauren's story sir as we had gone out to the movies as a group. Trevor, Janelle and Shauna were there as well. They witnessed this man as well and none of us heard anything said about him being her other half." he spoke as he tucked me into his chest again.

"Very well, Clayton please take Lauren home as we make sure all of the vampires and wolves are gone. Lauren I suggest that you do not go anywhere alone right now. If Donovan thinks you are the other half to that Alpha he will wait until you are alone and try to grab you. I must stress how important it is you be here to ascend. The prediction this year is for a strong flow of magic and we need to be sure you can handle it." he waved us away after his warning.

We were barely out the door when Shauna and Trevor show up beside us and walk over to my truck, the silence between Shauna and Trevor was tense.

"You OK Lauren?" Trevor finally asks when we get into my truck.

"I don't know. Shit just hit the fan and I can't even feel the bond. I mean he called me just before that Donovan man and his accomplice cornered me in Mel's. He warned me to be careful but he called from a blocked number so I can't contact him." I sigh and let my head hit the steering wheel.

"We got your back, no matter what is happening little bird." Clayton took my hand in his and gave it a reassuring squeeze. I smile as I start the truck and head to my apartment.

We all went up to my apartment and I went straight for my bottle of whiskey. I relished the burning down my throat, giving me that warm sensation. Everyone helped them selves to a glass and joined me. Between the four of us it didn't take long to finish the bottle.

We all retired to the living room to watch some TV as none of us wanted to talk about the shit show that just happened. I scanned the guide and found a marathon of Big Bang Theory. I fell asleep soon after it started.
