Back in the van, Pope was still pulling a face, his arms crossed on his chest. Sitting on front of him, Isis gave him a soft kick.
"Are you pouting?"
"I'm not."
She shared a teasing look with JJ, sitting with them in the back. He was rolling a joint. Isis frowned seeing this, then shook her head in disbelief.
"Pope, we're not stealing the drone, we're borrowing it," assured John B.
" 'Humans are the only animal that can't tell fantasy from reality'," he quoted back.
"Did you come up with that?" asked John B.
"Albert Bernstein came up with that, but it applies to this whole treasure-hunting thing."
"... oh."
"So, which is it?" inquired Pope. "Fantasy, or reality?"
"Why are you so weird, Pope?"
"Why are you such a pain in the ass, JJ?" replied Isis.
"Cause that's how you love me."
"... Fair enough," she mumbled.
"It's fantasy, but possible reality," answered Kie.
"Reality," said John B after a second.
"I don't know, but if it isn't real, I throw myself out the window," Isis concluded.
"Virtual reality," said JJ lighting his zippo.
Pope took the blunt off his mouth.
"Keep the signal clear."
JJ pursed his lips and gave Isis a begging look.
"He's absolutly right, don't get high now dumbass," she supported.
JJ sighed.
"You know what your problem is?" he asked Pope as they arrived
"You?"
"No! It's that you need to relax, man. You're always so tense!"
"I'm not too tense."
Isis rolled her eyes, and got out of the van with Kiara.
"Hey, where are you going?" asked immediatly JJ.
"Have you already forgotten what we planned?" she answered with a smirk. "And you're not even high yet! I'm going with Kie. It seems like two pairs of tits are more convincing than one."
He smiled.
"Actually, yours is qu-"
"Please don't," she interrupted. "I don't want to hear anything about my tits from your mouth."
"And what about your tits in my mouth?"
She made a face.
"That's super gross."
"... yeah, sorry."
Isis let out a chortle.
"See you later."
She then joined Kie in the latter's black Jeep.
"Are your parents aware that their car was stolen?" she asked settling on the passenger seat.
"They don't need it for now, they're too busy with the restaurant."
"If you say so. By the way, we need to talk about JB."
"What about him?" Kie asked, suddenly tensed up.
"You don't have to pretend, sis. Just, tell me why you turned him down."
Kiara sighed as she started the engine.
"I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"No, I do actually! Because of the rules. No Pogue on Pogue macking."
"Oh, come on!" chuckled Isis. "Do you really think we care about this shit? Fuck the rules."
Kie didn't answer, her eyes staring at the road. She sighed.
"Look, John B... he's cute and all, but--"
"Hell yeah he is."
Kie smirked.
"JJ's not gonna like this."
"Well, I don't care," replied Isis.
Her friend raised her eyebrows.
"What? Why, what do you mean?"
"You didn't answer me!"
Kie sighed again.
"I just want something else," she confessed. "Are you satisfied now?"
"Totally."
"So, tell me about JJ. What's wrong?"
"It's just... I don't know what he's waiting for. Like, we behave like a whole married couple but we haven't even kiss yet! Sometimes I feel like it's just a sort of game for him."
"... But you love him?"
Isis hesitated for a second.
"Yeah," she finally replied. "Yeah, I think I do."
"I'll be honest, he really, really does love you too." Isis' heart warmed hearing that. "But I think he's just shit-scared."
"Of what?" Isis asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Of what could happen if you two became a serious thing. Flirting is like a comfort zone," explained Kie. "It's safe as long as you don't take it seriously. Cause when you'll do, it could be dangerous."
"What do you mean 'dangerous'?"
"I mean that he could lose you," she said. "And you could lose him too."
"Yeah, but it's as possible as it is now."
"It wouldn't be as hurtful. I mean, from his point of view."
Isis held out a sigh.
"It's obviously just a guess," added Kie.
"Yeah, I mean... You're maybe right. I don't know," replied Isis. "What I'm sure to know is that we would be so powerful together."
"I can't agree more," giggled Kiara.
They drove straight to the yard, and parked the Jeep. Isis knelt down near a tire and deflated it a bit while Kie was looking around.
"Alright, let's do this," she said standing back up. "I'll wait for you here. Are you ready to show off?"
"Always, baby," Kie replied with a wink.
She approached the security man's cabin.
"Hello?" she called with a large smile, waving her hand. "Excuse me?"
Isis put her hands on her hips, watching her from afar.
The guard came to Kie.
"Can I help you?"
"Hi! Um, we actually have a flat tire," explained Kiara in a cheerful voice. "We were wondering if maybe you could help us out?"
He seemed to hesitate. Isis crossed her fingers, muttering "please" in repeat.
"Yeah," he ended up saying.
He walked back to his cabin in order to open the gate. Kie looked at Isis and made a victory dance step. The latter made her stop with a rushed arm gesture.
The guard came back with some useful tools and walked along with Kie to the Jeep.
"Hi Bobby!" said Isis with a wide smile, raising her sunglasses to her head. "Thank you so much for taking your time to help us."
"That's alright," he assured.
"It's just this back one right here," showed Kie designating the flat. "I mean, it must've been a slow leak or something."
"Yeah, I got this," he said putting his stuff down.
Isis saw the boys hurry to get into the yard, but made all efforts not to look at them. She shared a tense glance with Kie instead.
"Aren't you supposed to work today, Isis?" asked Bobby while pumping up the tire.
"Oh, uh," she stuttered. "They gave me a free day."
He nodded, then looked up at her.
"I heard about your dad," he said with a sorry glance. "What happened to him... it sucks."
"Yeah, it-it's not easy," she replied, choked. "But Kie's here to support me."
She wrapped her arm around her friend's shoulder. Bobby gave her a smile.
"That's great."
Isis nodded. Kie dropped a small kiss on her jaw, putting her arm around her waist, then holding discreetly her hand.
A dog barked in the distance. Bobby frowned.
"Do you hear that?"
"Hear what?" asked immediatly Kie.
He stood up.
"Tebow's got something."
"It's probably just a raccoon, maybe," said Kie. "You know? Nothing to worry about."
"Oh yeah, 100 percent," supported Isis. "There are plenty of them around my house. He'll leave."
The guard agreed and focused back on the tire. Kie left Isis alone and went around the car to find something to earn some time for the boys. Isis didn't blink, keeping a smile on her face.
"Where did she go?" asked Bobby looking around.
"Oh, she-- she just went, uh, take a piss. Behind the bushes."
Bobby frowned at her with disbelief.
"What are you-"
He stood up and went around the Jeep.
"No, Bobby, please..." tried Isis.
Too late. He saw Kie letting down another tire.
"What are you doing??" he asked angrily.
"Uh, this one looks a little low too..."
The guard didn't wait for more fake explanations, and ran back to the yard.
"No, wait!!"
Isis sighed.
"What are we doing now?" she asked, tensed up.
Kie pursed her lips.
"Get in the car."
