Chapter 16
'If you're really into something, you might get lost in it.'
Boom.
'If you're really into something, you might get lost in it.'
Boom.
When you take a hit, your senses black-out in an instant, but when it's time to recover, they come back in bits and pieces taking their own sweet time. This was the exact thing which Natasha was experiencing right now. She could vaguely remember something hard banging on her head and the next thing she knew, the world had gone black. No sound penetrated her ears, no touch was able to breach the defenses of her skin and neither did any light fade through her eyes. Dark, black and cold, that's how the world had become.
The situation was changing though. She could feel it on the inside. She was occasionally able to twitch her fingers or swivel her toes. But then, that was all. Her eyelids still refused to garner enough strength and reveal the outside world. Her eardrums were still persistent to blocking the world from her. All she could hear was her own voice. And it kept on repeating those two things over and over again.
'If you're really into something, you might get lost in it.'
Boom.
Since the time her mind had started allowing some thoughts to form, these two lines had been playing over and over again in her mind. She didn't know what they meant, didn't understand why they were the only things playing in her mind, and yet, it felt like she was always supposed to remember them. Every time when she strained her mind on them, only one word returned, MrAdventure. Why? she didn't know. But that word felt really important right then.
Natasha was once again trying to focus the functional part of her mind on these thoughts when she felt a warm sensation on her fingers. She could feel some warm fingers wrap around hers, and stay there. They stayed there for as long as she could remember. It felt so good knowing that someone was there, that someone still cared for her. Who could it be? Mom? Dad? Riya?
Her mother, father, and Riya, those were the only people her mind could recall. After all, they had been the core around which her life had revolved. And she was absolutely sure that no matter where or in what state she was in, these people would never leave her side. Never.
The grip of those fingers tightened a bit. She was still getting used the warmth they spread in her when she felt an unknown wetness on her thumb. Within no time, it spread across her palm. Someone's crying.
At that moment, she didn't want the riches of the world, neither the moon nor the stars, nothing. She just wished to open her eyes and take in the sight of whoever this was, showing infinite affection for her. She wanted to get up and thank them, hold their hands tight, stare right into their eyes and thank them from all her heart for being with her and loving her so much. Unfortunately, she couldn't do anything of that. With all the strength that was left, she tried to push her eyelids open but they remained shut.
Never before in her life had she felt so helpless. And this time, the thoughts triggered some tears in her eyes. Her eyelids still didn't open, but she could feel those salty drops seep out of them. She could feel them wet her cheeks. She could also feel the dampness of the air, the warmth of the sun, and the weight of a blanket over her body.
Suddenly, all the lost sensations of her body had returned. Never once had she lost her hope, but now, she believed that time wasn't far when she'd get up once again.
Her resolve to win this battle of life got even stronger with that touch of affection. Those tears from her loved ones were literally pulling her out of this darkness. She knew that time wasn't far now.
