Oblivion

"Stop doing that!" Harry shrieks for the millionth time as I continue my photography spree.

I just laugh it off and continue going through the pictures deleting the blurry ones. I come across one with my mother making pancakes for us in the kitchen, eyes wide and with a fake stern face, caught up in the moment as I took one photograph of hers, too.

I remember getting up in the morning greeted by a pillow thrown at my face(not so subtly) by Harry telling me my mother's here. I groaned and almost fell off the bed as I tried to feel the hard surface of my phone to check the time. I just groaned, yet again, and pushed my face deeper into the pillow, dismissing the idea of looking at the time and getting up to greet my mother at once.

When I, finally, showered and went down with my P&S camera in hand, I was greeted by the scent of chocolate chip pancakes, which happens to be a family favourite, and I couldn't help but smile at the sight of my mother after not seeing her for almost a week.

"So you finally woke up, huh?" She teased me not even looking behind her as she probably sensed my presence with one of her motherly sensors.

"Mornin' to you too, ma."

I grinned at her back and aimed my camera at her to take a picture of hers which she normally doesn't let me.

"Couldn't even mi--" She turned around just in time as the shutter went off.

Click.

I chuckled at the memory of her thereafter reprimanding me for taking a picture of her without her concern and not getting up early in the morning, not even when she arrived.

It continued to be a pleasant morning as we had our breakfast and then Mom and Rose went together, all dressed up from head to toe, to do whatever the hell they had to do, leaving me, Harry and my twelve-year-old brother, Jay, at home.

Jay was out in the neighbourhood with his friends, so here we were, Harry and I, sprawled on the couch watching 500 days of summer on the T.V. as we ate chips and fries and he saving himself from my occasional attacks with my stubborn tendencies.

"I swear to Jesus, if you don't put that damn black...and-and shiny thing down, right now, I will..I will...." He trailed off, most probably thinking of his next barbarous move to play on me.

"You will what, dip my hair in red hair dye or maybe put a bug on my bed like you did in seventh grade? Oh, c'mon, Harry your pranks are childish. Up your game!" My voice grew louder with each sentence as I playfully whisper-yelled the last one in a high pitched voice.

A devilish smirk grew on his face as he replied with a 'nope!"

"I...will dump your face in the cold and teeth-clattering freezing ice cream," He said as his face now took over a full blown grin showing off his pearly white teeth.

"You're joking right? It's fucking December right now and it's snowing outside. And-- who am I kidding, it's your favourite chocolate ice cream! You wouldn't even think of doing that."

"Yeah, well, you're righ--"

Click.

"Ha! Gotcha." It was my turn to smirk now.

Before he could complain anymore, I beat him to it.

"Shh. The movie's back on. This is the best part now." I said putting my index finger on my lips.

He sighed but didn't say anything. Instead he grabbed my ankles and placed them on his lap as he laid his head back and continued to watch the movie.

As Tom showed Summer his favourite spot in the city, Harry grabbed both of my ankles, again, to pull me towards him to rest his head on my shoulder, twisting my leg at an awkward angle.

"Uh..Harry? I-- uh, can't feel my leg right now.." I touched my shin trying to feel any sensation for the dramatic effect as Harry looked down to get a view of the way we were sitting in.

"Huh--oh, sorry." He chuckled lightly before giving me space to move my legs in the other direction in a comfortable position.

We continued to watch the movie in peace not long before we heard the doorbell going off.

"I'll get it," I said getting up from the comfort of the couch to unbolt the front door. Harry just nodded but got up, anyway, to attend to a phone call.

Thinking that it might be Jay, probably with his blonde friend, Calum, I unlocked the front door but was met with brown hair, curls flowing around, standing there, giving me a small smile.

"Hey, I was just passing by, thought I'd say hello." She beams at me this time as I try to recall the face but was left drawing blanks.

"Uh, hi. Do I know you?" I ask her as politely as possible.

"Oh--sorry. I'm Apryl,"

"Eh--"

"Caitlyn's friend," she continues.

"Uh..."

"You don't even know who Caitlyn is, do you?" She didn't seem annoyed by my oblivion as I thought her to be but instead let out a soft chuckle.

"I'm assuming Harry never told you."

I look at her in complete confusion about her and about Harry and about Caitlyn and about my life being a complete lie. To put it mildly.

"Ha-Harry knows you?" I look at her with furrowed eyebrows and a confused state of mind.

With an amused expression on her face she replies,"Mmhmm. Barely, I mean. He used to date my best friend, Caitlyn."

He used to date my best friend?

Caitlyn?

What?!

"Wai--wha-what? Harry never told me that." I question incredulously.

"That's interesting, considering Caitlyn did not even like you but talked about you all the time," she grins at me. "Well, Megan, just so you know, I'm freezing outside." She rubs her palms on each of her arms in an up and down motion.

I don't comment on the fact that she knows my name even before I introduced myself but instead open the door wide enough to let Apryl in.

"Oh my god, 'm so sorry. Come in, come in. By the way, we're gonna have a long chat about that, lady!" I say, putting my hands on my hips with a faux sternness.

She laughs hard this time, entering the house as she hangs her overcoat on the hook attached to the front door and makes her way to the living room.

"Would you like some tea, or coffee maybe?" I enter the kitchen and call out to her a 'make yourself comfortable' before dumping the leftovers of the food which Harry and I made a mess of.

"Tea is good." She replies as she continues to look around the house, plopped down on the couch.

"Tea it is," I put the kettle to boil as I ask her something which is nagging my mind, "How did you find my place? And you seem to know about Harry and me, which doesn't sound creepy at all."

Apryl looks at me with an amused expression as I try to uncap the bottle of water with one hand.

"I actually have come here before. You know Calum, right? I'm his brother's girlfriend."

Water splutters out from my mouth.

"You're kidding me? So, lemme get this straight, Harry's my best friend, he dated Caitlyn who happens to be your bestfriend and you are dating Niall, who is Calum's big brother, and my little brother is Calum's friend? Oh my god, this is giving me a headache!" I say as I take our cups of tea to the living room still horrified by the recent events.

"It's not so tangled, you see. I sometimes picked up or dropped Calum here, whenever Niall was busy, so I know your address. And Caitlyn, Harry's ex, talked about you, a lot, so that's how i know about you. Small world it is!" Apryl said with a low whistle as she held her cup to her lips and took a sip folding her legs beneath her on the couch.

Laughing I correct her, "Small town it is."

We both chuckle at the situation and the events that took place today as we sip on our teas when I'm reminded that something's missing or rather someone's missing.

"I'll be back." I tell Apryl as I spring up from the couch and approach the base of the staircase.

"Harry! Did you die in a hole, or something? Harry!" I call out to him again, once I don't get a reply.

With a confused expression on my face, I go back to sit on the couch beside Apryl muttering a 'strange' under my breath.

"Listen, there's a party this Saturday at one of my friends' place. I know we just met, but we could bond over some vodka and beer, what say?" She rambles excitedly.

With a low chuckle I mutter a 'yeah'.

"Perfect," she remarks. "So, since we're friends and all, we should hang out sometime. Give me your phone." She reaches out for my phone and calls her number to exchange phone numbers as I hear the lyrics of XO by Beyoncé coming from her device before she rejects the call.

"There it is." She hands me my phone back and starts getting up from the couch.

"I'm gonna go now," she says with a smile as she reaches the front door to wrap the coat around her.

"'Twas nice meeting you, Apryl. I'm really glad you 'thought you'd say hello'," I say repeating her words from before.

She chuckles before saying, "And I'm really glad you didn't close the door on my face when you heard about Harry's formerly nonexistent girlfriend," making me laugh with her as we said our goodbyes and I closed the door making my way to my room with thoughts of a curly haired boy who happens to be in great trouble right now.

A/N: that's Lily Collins up there people. Cast as Apryl Vanslooten.
