Chapter 22

My teeth sink in deep.

It's not gentle, either. A savage bite that makes him inhale sharply, either from the pain or the surprise, but likely a combination of both.

Killian groans, and for a moment, I think it may be in pain. But then his hands release my wrists, and one loops around my lower back, and the other winding into my hair, keeping my head in place.

And I realize faintly that he's groaning in pleasure.

The taste of his blood sends my wolf into a frenzy, no doubt realizing that I'm biting into a powerful wolf. Since I broke my mating bond, my wolf has been lonely, depressed. But with my teeth in Killian's neck, it's excited. Happy.

A voice in the back of my head tells me that I need to stop, immediately, but it feels good to have my canines locked in his flesh. Despite my weakened state, I feel better.

Killian's grip on me tightens as he takes ragged breaths, his chest rumbling in delight. My arms wrap around his neck, and my claws descend, and I'm sure that they're drawing blood as they dig into his back.

"Fuck, Katrina," Killian exhales, pulling me so close to him I can feel his heartbeat against mine.

I snap out of it.

I rip my teeth out of his neck, and immediately unwrap my arms from around him.

I push him away.

"Oh my god," I whisper, covering my mouth in horror.

Killian stares back at me in complete shock.

The mark from my bite is still in his neck.

It'll heal, obviously. Mating claims can only be made by the male, and for the first time, I'm glad that Selene wasn't just a raging goddess bitch, she was a sexist raging goddess bitch.

But that doesn't make my action less mortifying. Biting another wolf is the most intimate thing our kind can do. Even sex means less than biting someone.

You just don't bite someone who isn't your mate. Doing that without someone's consent could literally get you killed.

And I just bit the Alpha of Crimson Shadow.

"Katrina..." Killian says, his voice strangled, and it seems like even he is all out of sarcastic comments after my assault.

"Get out," I say frantically, my heart racing.

Killian's mouth drops. "What?"

"Leave. You have to leave," I plead desperately.

Oh my god, I just bit Killian. Killian.

"You just bit me," Killian says in shock. "And now you want me to leave?"

"It was an accident," I say, my words coming out so fast they're completely mushed together.

"It wasn't an accident, Katrina!" Killian yells, running a hand through his hair in distress. "You bit me on my claiming spot! That's not an accident!"

He's mad, and rightfully so. I literally committed the worst crime against him. He would be completely within the Law to kill me where I stand.

"It was an accident," I repeat, and for some reason, I start freaking crying.

Killian calmly sits on the side of the bed, staring at me intensely. "Katrina, why would you do that?"

Oh my god, my Sight was wrong. I'm not dying in three months. I'm going to die now.

"I don't know!" I say in panic. "It was the drugs or something! I was just confused! I just woke up from a three-day coma!"

Killian looks at me in doubt. "You bit me because you were on painkillers?" He repeats the last word in disbelief.

I cringe. "Yes?" My voice is squeaky.

"That's not why," Killian says lowly, and when he reaches his hand to my face, I flinch. He's probably going to tear out my throat, like I practically did to him.

"Just kill me fast," I say quickly. "I feel like that's a fair trade considering that-"

"What?" Killian asks in confusion. "Why would I kill you?"

"Because I bit you!" I'm still crying.

"I-I dont... What?" Killian is so confused, it confuses me.

"You're not going to kill me?" I ask in clarification, still not really sure why he hasn't yet.

"Katrina, why the fuck do you think I would kill you?" Killian puts his hands on the side of my face, forcing me to look at him.

My head is spinning, and I'm not sure if it's from the confusion or because I can still taste Killian's blood. "Because I bit you on your claiming spot?" I repeat, and it sounds more like a question, still unsure what he's confused about.

Killian blinks. And then recognition replaces the confusion in his eyes. "You... You think I didn't want that?" He asks, completely bewildered.

I frown. "Obviously?"

"And you thought I would kill you for doing it," He states, finally realizing the problem here.

"That's correct, yes."

He blinks twice.

"So, you're not going to kill me?" I clarify one more time, because nothing makes sense right now.

I just fucking bit him.

Killian sighs in exasperation. "Katrina, would you please stop asking that? I'm not going to kill you, okay?"

"O-okay," I mutter, finally relaxing.

We sit in silence for a few moments.

"But we should talk about it," Killian says finally.

"Nothing to talk about," I quickly say.

Killian's eyes widen. "Seriously? You just bit me, and you think we have nothing to talk about?"

I shrug, trying to seem apathetic about it. "I told you. It was the drugs."

Killian's face twists in disbelief. "You're telling me that didn't mean anything at all to you?"

"What could it possibly have meant, Killian?" I sigh. I really didn't know.

"You- You're jealous!" He sputters, for once, completely disarmed.

I scoff. "Jealous of what?"

"The vampire girl!" He insists. "You got jealous when I mentioned her biting me, so you bit me!"

I laugh uneasily. "Killian, do you realize how insane you sound right now?"

"You bit me!" Killian yells. "In what world am I the insane one!"

"You're implying that I-" My voice cuts off mid-yell.

"You think I'm implying that you like me?" Killian asks darkly.

I shut my mouth, and my cheeks flush.

"BECAUSE THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'M IMPLYING!" He yells.

"THAT'S A STUPID THING TO IMPLY," I scream back.

Killian takes a few deep breaths, and I do the same. Our wolves are both too riled up right now for this conversation.

"Why is that so stupid, Katrina?" Killian asks calmly, and I wonder if his wolf is as on edge as mine. Despite his dark eyes, he seems surprisingly calm, all things considered, so perhaps I was wrong about his wolf being riled up.

"Because I hate you," I snarl.

"Crazy how I have hated many people throughout my life," Killian sneers. "And yet, I haven't bitten A SINGLE ONE OF THEM!"

"MAYBE YOU DIDN'T HATE THEM ENOUGH!" I yell back.

Killian's jaw twitches, just like it did at the ball with Dorian. "You don't hate me," Killian says softly.

"Yes, I really do, Killian."

"No."

"Yes."

"You like me."

I laugh. "That's absurd."

He raises an eyebrow. "Really? So, just to clarify, so we're on the same page, you bit me in my claiming spot because you don't like me."

"Yep."

Killian growls. "You're so fucking frustrating, Katrina."

I chuckle in relief. "See? We hate each other, Killian. The bite was an accident. It meant nothing."

Killian's mouth curls into a cruel smirk. "So it wouldn't bother you at all if I went back to see Mila?"

"Not a bit." Her name makes me want to punch a wall or kick a small child.

Killian leans in closer, his eyes flashing dangerously. "And if I let her bite my claiming spot?"

I almost go blind with rage. "Hope it hurts," I say sweetly.

Anger flashes in Killian's eyes before it's replaced with indifference.

He shrugs. "Guess we'll find out."

And he disappears.

****

I don't sleep a wink that night.

I toss and turn, and I'm not sure why. Probably because I'm going to die in a few months.

But, surprisingly, none of my thoughts are on myself.

They're on that stupid blonde leech.

Killian no doubt spent the entire night with Mila, and she probably used her demon teeth to cover up my bite mark.

It feels good when they suck your blood.

Killian, probably right now, is winding his hands in her hair to pull her head closer to his neck, groaning in pleasure.

I hate him.

My alarm for the circulus meeting finally goes off, not that I was sleeping anyways. I'm sluggish when I get ready, still weakened by my vision, and my mood is horrid.

I tell myself it's because I'm dying, and not because Killian is getting bitten by someone else.

I go to the meeting room, but nobody is there. I tap into my Sight, and See that Knox is in the kitchen.

"Um, you're late for the meeting," I tell him impatiently, not sure why I feel so anxious for it.

He looks at me in confusion. "Killian didn't tell you? He pushed it back to tonight. Said something about missing out on sleep."

I bite the inside of my cheek so hard I taste blood.

"Want to train?" Knox asks hopefully.

"Can't," I spit out, and stalk back into my room angrily.

I mean, seriously? I knew he was going to see the bloodsucker bitch, but he was willing to push back an important pack matter to be with her longer?

What a horrible Alpha.

I pace in anger for awhile, and decide to wait in his room for him to return to give him a piece of my mind. I mean, I'm freaking spending my final days helping his freaking pack, but he's too busy getting his dick wet to help?

I barge into his room, and freeze when I see him sleeping on his bed, shirtless, and his mouth open as he snores softly.

A floorboard creaks under my foot, and Killian's eyes shoot wide open.

"Katrina?" He mumbles in confusion, rubbing his eyes. "Are you okay?"

"What are you doing here?" I ask in confusion.

"In my room?" He asks, looking around, frowning. "I was trying to sleep, before you so rudely interrupted. Your turn to answer that question, my dear."

"You cancelled the meeting," I frown. "I thought-" I catch myself from finishing the sentence.

He raises his eyebrows, and gets out of bed. He's only wearing a pair of boxers. "What'd you think, Katrina?" He asks softly, putting his finger under my chin and tilting my head up.

My mouth dropped open.

He played me.

I shove his chest. "You asshole!" I say in disbelief.

Killian smiles, amusement lighting up his eyes. "I'm not quite sure what you're so angry about, darling."

"You made me think you cancelled the meeting to be with her! Knox said-"

"Knox said that I was missing out on sleep. Which I have been, mind you, because I was at your side for three days waiting for you to wake up," He smirks, his eyes glowing in victory. "I cancelled the meeting so I could sleep."

"But... but... you..." I hate him so much, I can't even think clearly.

"But, but," Killian mocks. "Spit it out, Katrina dear. We haven't got all day."

"You said you were going to see her," I snarl.

"So what if I did, Katrina?" Killian yells in frustration. "You're the one who said you don't like me! Why shouldn't I see other people?"

His words make me feel like I've been punched in the stomach, all oxygen knocked out of my lungs.

"Let's just agree to stay out of each other's way, yeah?" I say finally. "Stop freaking out on people for trying to poach me as their Seer, and I'll stop biting you and caring who bites you. Sound fair?"

Killian's face falls. "Katrina, that's not what I meant."

"Killian, please," I say quietly. "Can we just agree to stop whatever this is? It's getting too complicated. I don't want any of this."

And I don't. I only have a few months left. I can't waste this time getting into petty arguments with him, or anyone, for that matter.

Killian's mouth presses into a hard line. "Fine. I'll stay out of your way. Now, I'm going back to sleep. Either get in my bed or get out of my room."

I know that behind his joking words, he's really giving me one more chance to go back on my request. Stay, and give into whatever weird thing is happening between us. Or leave, and shut things down before they go too far again.

I make the decision that will hurt both of us the least, come three months.

"Goodnight, Killian," I say quietly before fleeing his room.
