ISABEL ADAMS was adopted, everyone knew that, it wasn't a secret. Isabel had known since she was a young girl, both of your parents being women was a dead give away. Isabel knew who her original family was and she knew the backstory of her adoption.

Isabel had a normal life. She made friends, joined the cheerleading squad, only to quit a week in because she hated it. She fell in love, then got dumped and cried about it to her best friend Caroline Forbes all night.

Before May 23rd, 2009 Isabel Adams loved Elena Gilbert. She loved her smile, along with her laugh, her eyes and the way they sparkles in the sun, her hair and the way it flowed past the girls shoulders, and mainly her life and how perfect her family was.

She also loved Elena as a person, she was kind even in a bad situation, always put her friends and family first, and didn't judge Isabel for something she didn't know in full, unlike the rest of the students at mystic falls high.

Elena, on the other hand, didn't love Isabel, at least not in the way Izzy loved her. Isabel was one of Elena's best friend, and that was it.

On May 23rd 2009 Elena had gotten in a fight with her boyfriend, Matt Donavan, which put her in an annoyed mood for the rest of the night. Isabel had made the mistake of laughing at something Elena had told her, which sent the Gilbert girl off the rains.

Elena had snapped at Isabel, saying a few overly harsh thing to her before storming out.

Isabel and Elena hadn't talked since. Isabel didn't even know about her parents till almost a week later.

NOAH ADAMS was adopted—just like her sister. And just like her sister, she knew it for all of the same reasons and more. Unlike her sister, Noah knew nothing about her original family, why they left her, what they were like, if they were even alive.

Noah had a basic life. She had maybe two friends, one being her sister Isabel and the other being the love of her sisters life's little brother, Jeremy. She never cared to join any sports, she never wanted to hang out with her sisters friends, and she never wanted a boyfriend.

Her life seemed to come crashing down on May 23rd, 2009 all thanks to her sister. Because of Isabel's fight with Elena, Jeremy stopped talking to her—at least that's what she thought.

Jeremy and Noah had been best friends since Isabel's third sleep over at Elena's in 4th grade when she tagged along because her parents were going to be out of town and the Gilbert's offered to watch her.

They met on the stairs. Jeremy had been leaving his room while Noah had been running up to Elena's with the snacks she had gotten from Mrs. Gilbert. They had quite literally ran into each other.

Noah had ended up falling half-way down the stairs and broke her wrist, which made the boy feel extremely guilty and so he sat with her on the couch for the next hour telling her jokes or stories of him accidentally hurting himself.

On May 24th 2009 Jeremy had stopped answering her text and—knowing about Izzy and Elena's fight—Noah was quick to place all the blame on Izzy.

She was completely unaware of what had happened to the boys parents the night before and when she finally did find out—a week later from her older sister—she had tried everything to get him to talk to her, or even just spark a small smile.

But he never did.

Instead he avoided her—refusing to talk to and see her.

Noah tried fighting for him. Trying harder and harder each day, but the more she tried the colder he got.

Then he met Vicki Donavan, and she completely lost him.
