Chapter Four

TWO WEEKS later, Theodat bumped into Samantha in a boutique. Their meeting wasn’t a pleasant one and Samantha failed to recognize him. It wasn’t her fault; Theodat’s pictures on the internet looked different from the way he actually looked. He posed for pictures and certainly, didn't pose while walking too.

Samantha first saw a coat and had wanted to buy it. It had been cold since she got there and a coat could keep her warm.

But then when she sent the coat to the sales girl, her hand touched another hand. That was when she saw him. And she knew exactly why her hand touched his.

He also wanted the coat and she wanted it too. She saw the coat first and when he had come into the shop asking for a designed coat, the shop owner asked her to allow him to have it because he was their loyal customer. She got angry and decided to turn her into a statue but she remembered she couldn't.

“No, that can’t happen. I came here first and I picked this coat first. Who cares about the design or who designed it? If he does, I don’t. I saw this first and took it because it is nice. You can’t ask me to leave it for him just because he is your customer. I am new here and probably I might be your customer too.”

“Ma’am, I understand you. But don’t you know who he is?” the sale's girl asked her and she frowned at her.

“See, I care less if he is from a royal home or if he is the king himself, I chose this and I am buying it. So annoying,” Sam sighed her frustration out. She wished she could just do something to them and leave without anyone knowing about it.

“Miss, I’ll pay you twice this price if you hand it over to me. I have to buy this particular design. Let’s make this easy for both you and i, ok?” Theodat negotiated with her but as stubborn as she could be sometimes, she refused.

“Pay me twice you say. Any way I won’t need it as much as you do but I think it isn’t fair so I won’t let you have them,” Sam again voiced out. She was all for fight our right commotion.

She tapped her foot on the floor, waiting for the sales girl to settle on whether she'll have it or hand it over to him.

You should thank your God I promised I won’t use magic here in London, otherwise I would’ve turned you into an ant. Foolish man.

“And miss, if you don’t want me to leave here without paying for the coat, then stop insisting I give it to him. There is no way I’ll be leaving here without it,” she warned as she took in her breath little by little.

“I’m calling security,” the young girl said to them while looking obediently at the man standing next to her.

“Is this what you do in London? Wow, I never thought I would come face to face with someone who discriminates to this extent,” she knew that wasn't a strong point to stand on. But she still used it anyway.

“Huh? Which part of the world do you live in?” Theodat was amused by her.

“Call security and I’ll turn you into an ant. Try me and I’ll let you see what you want to see. I am not joking,” Sam had had enough of them two and she meant it when she told them she'd turn them into an ant.

“Ant you say. Why don’t you curse her entire family too? Is that not what witches do?” Theodat suggested to her and she immediately looked at him.

“What did you just say?” she also enquired, knowing too well where it came from.

“Try to turn her into an ant, then I’ll give you the coat,” Theodat dared her. He smirked at her as he put his two hands inside his own pockets.

“Are you testing my patience?” Samantha also questioned. She didn't think he'd dare her. So she smiled and showed him her wicked smile. The very smile she puts on when she was about to perform a spell.

“I don’t have time for your patience, hand over the coat,” Theodat also had had enough of it. He didn't exactly dare her because he believed she could turn any of them into an ant. He was just not having fun anymore.

“Too much arrogance and pride. Can’t you just beg me to leave it so you can have them?” Sam also suggested.

“Why, have you already paid for it? Since you haven’t, I guess I’m entitled to buy it,” he also defended himself.

“Ok, since you two need the same coat, the person who offers to pay the highest amount…” the sales girl was about to suggest when Sam shouted, “Hey, that is called cheating. How dare you?”

“What? Don’t tell us you don’t have enough money. This is a challenge…let’s begin,” Theodat agreed and asked them to do it since he knew he'd be the one taking it home as long as the highest bidder gets it.

“If you manage to take this home, it will turn into a dirty rug before you could wear it. Trust me, I don’t miss my target,” And that was the first spell she casted when she arrived.

Theodat laughed for a while. “Threatening me? Do you know I can sue you?”

“You should thank God; I didn’t say you will turn into rugs,” she made herself clear.

“Please I’m sure your husband wouldn’t mind if you pick another design,” the young girl suggested again and Sam eyed her once more before shouting, “What did you say? I’m not married. Why, can you see any ring on my finger? Please watch what you say, miss. I’m not married.”

“Who would marry someone like her?” He chuckled and continued, “It would be a waste of time to marry such a person.”

“I beg your pardon, were you referring to me?” Sam asked him in a nice way.

“Please if you are not married then I suggest you are buying it for your boyfriend, brother, cousin…” the young girl continued

Sam screamed at her, “I don’t have a brother or a cousin neither do I have a boyfriend. You got that?”

“Ah, so who are you buying it for then? Oh a friend, but your friend won’t…”

“I’m buying it for myself; do I have to keep on saying the same thing because you are dumb?” Sam cut the young lady's words short with hers.

“Miss I asked because this coat is designed for only men,” The young lady said what she had wanted to say a long time ago since she realized it was for men.

“What are you saying? So you made me waste my time with this fool…”

“Watch your mouth, you uncivilized creature,” Theodat snapped at her too.

“I’ll take that as a compliment. I’ll let you have the coat. Now, can you show me where the lady's coats are?” she finally gave in while looking around.

“This side please. Anna, please take the coat from her to…” The young lady called another young lady to package the coat for him.

But it seemed Sam was again losing it, “Please can you shut up and show me where I could find women’s coat.”

“Sure miss. This way please,” she told Sam as she directed the way.

“Such a man!” Sam exclaimed while following the lady, her nostril flaring in flames.

“Do you mean you don’t know who he is?” She asked Sam as she helped her pick a suitable coat, “Everyone knows him.”

“I don’t care who he is. He got the coat and so I don’t ever want to see him again,” she told the young lady as she finally found the perfect coat for herself.

“It’s rare for you to find such a man around."

“Hey, who are you to be telling me this? Are you here to work or to give people advise? Which is which? Let me know so I’ll know if I still want to buy the coat,” Sam offered a genuine offer.

“Such a temper. What is wrong with what I said? Such a temper doesn’t suit your beautiful face,” the young girl murmured as Sam left the shop without even waiting for them to package it for her.
