Chapter 22 // Is It a Suicide Mission?

It's THE FINAL FREAKING CHAPTERRRR!!!!

well, there's probably going to be a multi-part long epilogue but nahhh that's not important XD

"You should join me and the boys at 79's one of these days," Rex shouted over the deafening sound of blaster fire. They had accidentally stumbled into a patrol of the enemies, so now they were doing their best to progress to the controlling device without killing anyone. Rex had his blaster set to stun, which Ahsoka had to admit was incredibly useful, whereas she had to use the Force to make the others fall asleep or knock them out. All in all, she felt like her method was inefficient and time-consuming.

"I don't know, I'm not much of a cantina person..."

"C'mon, you'll love it," Rex assured her. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw an enemy that had switched from a blaster to a lightsaber and was advancing on Ahsoka. He scowled and aimed his weapon at the enemy, slightly wishing that it wasn't just set to stun. Nobody messed with his commander.

"Fine. But don't even think that you're going to turn me into a party animal," Ahsoka laughed, then added a quick thanks to the captain for having her back.

"Wouldn't dream of it," he chuckled. The door to explosives was visible now. It wouldn't be too much longer. "So what exactly are you going to do with the bomb?"

"It's kind of difficult to explain and believe," Ahsoka admitted. "But I practiced the skill all last night so hopefully I can perform it again."

"Hopefully? We're going to need a lot more than that," the clone warned before taking out four more Force-sensitives. "I have faith in you though. Now go save the galaxy or whatever."

He pushed Ahsoka into the room, then shut the door behind her. While the Togruta was safe, Rex was stranded in a hallway with countless opponents.

"Rex!" She yelled, banging on the door. "Get in here! Don't do this to me!"

The only response she got was the continuous sound of blaster fire. The only way to help him was to carry out the mission as soon as possible now. She needed to find a way to destroy the contraption without expending too much energy, given that she was going to need every ounce of it to complete her plan.

An idea spawned on her. She wasn't sure how she hadn't thought of this before. The Togruta drove her lightsaber into the heart of the device, then pulled the blade out and stabbed it again. The light that was being emitted from the controller started to dim, and eventually, the energy sputtered out. However, the glow quickly transferred to the bomb, which started flashing red.

"And that's my cue," she mumbled to herself. A timer began counting down from 60 seconds. The Togruta hurriedly disabled the weapon, then clutched to it tightly. This was it. If she failed, everyone died. That totally wasn't a lot of pressure.

54... 53... 52...

Knowing that she didn't have time to waste, Ahsoka willed her eyes shut and concentrated on Christophsis. Once she had a visual of the planet, she narrowed into the specific coordinates that the base resided. Even more specifically, the control room.

Then, just as though she was a Nightsister, her body and the bomb disintegrated into thin air. Then, much to Barriss and Luminary's alarm, it formulated on the Christophsis base. It took a lot of her energy, so she ended up stumbling around and fumbling with the bomb.

"What in the bloody-" Barriss choked out, but a nasty glare from Luminara silenced the Mirialan.

"Force teleport? I haven't heard of that in ages," the Jedi Master mumbled in shock. "Surely the Jedi didn't teach you this?"

"Nope. Some dusty old books and a dead leader did. It's rather complicated, so I'll save the story for another day," Ahsoka explained, already working on dismantling the explosives. Barriss and Luminara had the same idea as she had with driving their lightsaber into the controlling device.

"Tano out," she declared, hugging both of the bombs close to her with one arm and using the other to give them a two-fingered salute. She repeated the same process as she had before, this time picturing the sandy base of Savareen.

28... 27... 26...

While Anakin and Obi-Wan not being present meant bad news for many reasons, she was grateful that they didn't get to witness her nearly falling on her butt. If she thought that the transition to Christophsis wasn't graceful, she wasn't even sure what to call this. However, as her mind processed the fact that the Jedi Masters weren't in the room, she panicked.

"I don't have time for this," she panicked, whipping out her lightsaber and slashing at the device. It wasn't until her lightsaber hit the protective casing and bounced off that she realized, unlike the others, it was encased in beskar.

"Kriff," she cursed. There was only one thing left to do, and she wasn't even sure if she had enough energy to spare for it. Although, one glance at the door that Obi-Wan and Anakin were presumably fighting behind was enough to remind the Togruta that an incomplete mission was not an option.

Ahsoka placed her hand on top of the device and began applying pressure. The Force that surrounded the contraption began to compact, causing not only the beskar to shrivel together, but the device as well. Granted, this would take a lot less energy if the incredibly resistant beskar wasn't in the way.

A satisfactory crunch and flash of light told Ahsoka that the controller was destroyed. She collapsed to her knees and called the three bombs to her. Her entire body was quivering in exhaustion by the time Obi-Wan and Anakin finally busted through the doors.

"Ahsoka!" Her former master called out, rushing to her side. He took one of Ahsoka's hands in his own and began comforting her. "Are you alright?"

"Yes," she whispered. "But I've got to go. These bombs will detonate in a few seconds."

"What about you?" He demanded.

"I'll figure something out. Just let me go so I won't take you with me."

Up until this point, the Gray Jedi had been certain that she would live through this mission. But now? She wasn't so sure. Was this truly a suicide mission, but she had been too blind to see it?

"Ahsoka, this can't be the last time we see each other," Anakin pleaded, reluctantly caving into the Obi-Wan's tugs. His fingertips slowly slid from hers, but his sight never left her. "Stay safe, please!"

With every ounce of strength she had left, Ahsoka pictured a nearby planet with vast spaces that were lifeless. Care to take a guess at which planet that was?

If you thought Tatooine, you'd be right.

11... 10... 9...

Ahsoka nearly couldn't complete the teleport this time. There was a second where she felt as though she was suspended in mid-space, with part of her body molecules on Tatooine and some still stuck on Savareen. This state was extremely painful and something that Aylile had warned her of. If she didn't complete the process soon, her body would glitch and collapse.

Finally, with one last push, Ahsoka felt herself falling face-first into the coarse sand of Tatooine. She harshly coughed all of the debris out of her mouth and rolled onto her back, panting heavily.

5... 4...

Oh no, Ahsoka internally panicked. She tried to focus back on Savareen, which admittedly wasn't the best planet choice but she couldn't travel any farther. The ticks of the bomb were almost deafening loud as she channeled all of her remaining energy into the task. Her consciousness was flickering back and forth, and it was beginning to grow harder and harder not to succumb into the dark.

I don't want to die... not this time, she mentally pleaded to whoever could hear her. If she didn't escape the reaches of the bomb, she wouldn't even have a body to revive.

3...

"Help," she croaked, striving harder to find the power to Force-teleport away. At this point, she was even dipping into her life-force. Her body was shaking uncontrollably from the exertion and tears were starting to pool in her eyes.

2...

No no no no. She couldn't die. She promised Anakin she would return. She needed to return to Lux. She couldn't abandon Rex and the Gray Jedi Order.

1...

Despite her furious protests, her eyelids began to grow heavy. Exhaustion settled over her like a suffocating blanket, and at some point, she gave up fighting. It started with her physical body growing numb and lifeless, then her mental state turning dull.

Right before her eyes closed for the last time, a blindingly bright figure formed in front of her and reached a hand out.

It was the Daughter.

Ahsoka pushed through the pain and weakness to raise her hand up to meet the entity.

0...

Right as the wave of destruction and death passed over her, the Togruta's fingertips brushed against the Daughter's.

Darkness finally consumed her completely and her eyes fluttered shut.
