Ezra
We snuck out at midnight. It was dark but the stars led the way with a comforting light. The sky was a beautiful shade of purple with a hint of blue. One that reminded me of looking out into space from the gunning seat of the ghost. The seat that I spent too long looking at the picture of my family
Sabine had found in the ruins of my old house. Just before we left we tinkered with Maul's lightsaber a little bit. Okay. A lot. It was fun. I kinda wanted to use the pieces to fix my light saber but then I realized Sabine used the only good parts on the com-link. I grabbed the lightsaber and peeled back the floppy door of my tent. Just before leaving I looked at the picture I'd never forget the moment it actually happened. When my bunk fell on Zeb with me in it. I never should have asked to be Sabine's inspiration.
"Get off your butt," I grabbed Sabine's arm and pulled her out of her tent.
"Let's go!" She whispered and we silently ran off.
"Do you even know where Maul is?" She asked.
"He's in his ship in that swamp. Remember? We spied on him for ages to find out." Me and Sabine answered her question at the same time. Then looked at each other realizing what had happened.
"You didn't ask that question did you?" I asked her looking down.
"You didn't either." She noticed.
"I did!!" A familiar voice squeaked.
"Serena?!?" Both me and Sabine gasped. Then I remembered that she had probably known when we left considering she was a Jedi. I glared at her.
"Go back to camp!" I pointed in the direction we came from.
"You can't make me," she ran ahead giving us no choice but to let her come. My face turned red. I didn't want her coming. Sure, she saved my life once but that isn't going to happen again. I won't let it.
About ten minutes later we pasted Serena and she was out of breath I sprinted toward the swamp followed by Sabine. When we got to the swamp Maul was waltzing around minding his own business. That's a first.
He was throwing things into a huge backpack, don't ask why I have no idea, so I used it. I climbed into it and waved in Sabine's direction. I could see her stunned face. We didn't have a plan so this is the best I've got. I dug through the contents of the backpack:
- A few pieces of metal
- A fake kyber crystal
- A data disc
I assumed the metal and crystal were for a new light saber, but the disc. I had no idea what it was for. So I stole it. Maul picked up the pack and headed toward his ship.
"Ezra get back to the ghost." Kanan's voice seamed to be louder than usual so much that Maul now knew I was here. So much for not being saved by Serena again. I dive rolled out of the backpack just before Maul took it off of his back and looked for the noise. I jumped to the ceiling of his ship and crawled around as if there was no gravity.
I set foot on his cot and dropped his light saber next to it in a place he'd find it. I went back to the ceiling as a recording of Kalus flashed on.
"Maul." He began. "We have captured the princess and are heading above the Lumiose bad lands. I'd like to inform you that she had committed treason and is actually a rebel and it is a great pleasure to have her captured. Vader will inform us what to do with her soon enough. Meet me at the bottom if the power plant now! Also that disc that I had delivered to you has important battle plans on it. If you let it fall into rebel hands the empire will surely die. Along with you. I also need to thank you for helping with this one task and assure you this is the last thing you need to do before I give you the reward and we part ways." Then the message ended.
"Thanks Maul," I silently rejoiced then crawled out to Sabine and Serena. I showed them the disc and told them about the message that never reached Maul.
"Let's go get Chopper so we can read the disc!" Sabine punched the air and ran off to the ghost. Then I remembered Kanan's voice.
"Get back to the ghost now." It'd take forever to get back. Whatever he needed me to do could be done. Or they could be captured. Chop might not be there.
