How did I not see?

Caution never played well with me;

read heart so wrong,

couldn't help myself.... had to play along;

Close my eyes – hold on,

wringing out eyes to belong,

wasn't singing to the right song;

The hand held had no worth,

truth is within –
don't listen to their words,

running from paths ill-favored;

The past is losing any gain on me,

miles from anywhere they can reach,

How did I never see?

It's not a nightmare as I had once

dreamed it to be.
