Epilogue

      One year later.

The windows to the town house were wide open, allowing the spring air to enter and leave on the breeze. A melodic strum sounded throughout the building as birdsong intertwined with the music.

Upstairs Sean pulled his suit jacket over his arms and adjusted the lapels as he stared in the mirror. The sound of the soft notes of the guitar pulled his lips up into a smile. Raking his hand through his freshly washed hair, he stepped away from the mirror, walking across the carpet carefully as to not make too much noise so he could enjoy the song for as long as possible.

Shutting the bedroom door carefully behind him, he approached the staircase, the song echoing off of the walls and bouncing off of the many paintings Millie had gifted to them to decorate their newly shared space. Her artistic style brought a new life to his once cold and monotonous home, but as did the accompaniment of a certain redhead that he had the pleasure of waking up to every day.

His footsteps were silent as he descended the staircase, the music growing louder as he reached the ground floor and turned towards the open living space.

Sat cross legged in the middle of the room was the light of his life. Wearing his oversized football shirt and a pair of pink fuzzy socks, sat Kelsey. She balanced an acoustic guitar on her lap as her fingers meticulously plucked away whilst a whispered tune spun from her lips. She sat staring at the notebook before her, eyes rapidly reading the chords and lyrics before stopping suddenly, pulling the pencil from behind her ear and scribbling her notes down.

"Sounds beautiful." Sean said, smiling as Kelsey jumped in surprise. She held her hand over her heart and let her lips spread into a smile Sean had only seen her use for him.

"It's very nearly done." Kelsey replied, tucking the pencil back behind her ear and resting her arms on the guitar.

"That's good then." Sean replied, raising his eyebrows. "The baby shower is tonight after all."

"The best Auntie has the best gift." Kelsey sang, whilst wiggling triumphantly in her spot. "Millie loves it when I sing to her bump, so I think she'll enjoy the lullaby I've written."

Sean walked towards Kelsey, the light from the morning sun rays casting her hair ablaze in a fiery glow.

"Plus at this point in her pregnancy, Mills appreciates any excuse to lay down with her feet up." Kelsey laughed, plucking once again at the strings.

"I just love to hear you play." Sean said, his words laced in adoration. He bent down and kissed the top of her head.

"Did you get the whiskey and cigars for David?"
"I did. It's in the car so I can take it to theirs straight after work."

"Ok good, thank you."  Kelsey beamed up at him, making his heart melt within his chest. "Have a good day at work, hon."

"I'll see you later, Kels." Sean bent down once more and kissed her on the lips. "I love you."

"I love you too." Kelsey responded. Those words often shared between them came as naturally as breathing.
