things go right, or do they?
"The moon is beautiful, isn't it?"
"Jimin...today is a new moon night."
"Ah I- I meant stars! Look the stars are twinkling so amazing wow."
Jungkook tilts his head upwards again with an apologetic look. "I see no stars. Only dark clouds covering the sky."
Jimin's mouth goes dry. Fuck. He is messing this up. Yet again. The bright sandcastle of his hopes has been washed over with huge waves repeatedly until only a lump remained. If that lump subsides away too, Jimin feels like he might cry.
They should be in their hotel cuddling on the bed and watching an anime at this ungodly hour. If Jimin hadn't insisted on 'one last place I want to take you' they might even be getting some action right now.
But who can blame him? The day is ending in less than an hour. And Jimin barely has made any progress. In his head, proposing was never meant to be this difficult. Nothing like the chaos ensuing each time he tries. Honestly he is drained after everything, it only makes things harder.
Jungkook notices that. Notices the defeated disheartened creases of his hyung's countenance. So he takes it upon himself to start a conversation that may favour Jimin.
"I can see whole of Tokyo from here. The views sure are lovely."
Jimin's cheesiness lashes out before the words even reach his brain. As if it had been bottled up waiting for an opportunity to unleash itself, he finds himself saying "Know what else is lovely?"
"You" Jungkook replies without missing a beat.
It makes Jimin flush red, his hearts swells with so much love, so much affection poured upon him. But right now at this moment this shouldn't go like this! Jimin is determined to propose not get himself flustered. "You are more." He speaks with a sigh.
"No you." Jungkook's smile towards him is too soft for Jimin's liking.
And it is agitating him in inexplainable ways "I said you."
"Nu-uh! You."
"If you say you once more, I'll literally push you off. I will."
"Why oh yuuuuu."
Jungkook grins like the brat he is when an irritatingly amused Jimin shoves him half over the wooden railing fences. Careful to not actually throw him down but enough to give anyone a rush of panic. They chuckle in their risky embrace.
Always knowing how to lighten the tension for each other.
The ride in the cab hadn't taken long but reaching to the top did. After they were out of the amusement park, Jimin took Jungkook with him to this one spot in the local hills. A high cliff amongst the beauty of nature that showcases the best sights of the night city view, where they are free of any trespassing invaders, and the sky looks too romantically heavenly.
It indeed was the perfect place perfect time for taking his ring out if Jimin didn't have struggled to get a proper beginning to serve as the headstart.
"I need to say something to you Jungkook. I was meaning to since morning."
Okay maybe it is too simple, too basic, too not poetic, and too not so iconic. But fuck it, Jimin seriously needs to get this out.
"I could tell. To be honest, I've been waiting for you to not just leave me hanging every time." Jungkook being way too calm about this.
Jimin's nervousness comes back again. So it is happening huh. He feels a heavy pull inside his chest. Before he has the time to even think of making this in the slightest bit romantic, he involuntarily drops down on one knee.
He studies Jungkook's expressions with deep observance. Currently it displays anticipation but no elements of surprise.
Jimin tries to recall that script he wrote to at least make it seem like some efforts are put into, but his mind falls completely blank.
"Tell me, Jimin."
Jungkook repeats sweetly. The way his half lidded eyes are captivating Jimin from that angle, yeah, he just knew he bout to make a total fool of himself.
Jimin gulps, "You are the uh.. the beam of light in my cloud of darkness. My love, my world. Who descended like angel from heaven saving me from... what is that word? Dis-something Ah despair! Yes and also the Yin to my Yang, the Juliet to my Rodeo-...no r-romeo whatever and the...uhh...Oh damn I forgot the script." He mumbles the last part much quietly in disappointment, squeezing his eyes shut.
Jimin can't believe this. After everything when he finally gets to get on his knee, to claim Jungkook has his forever, he dares to forget what to say! Unbelievable in all languages!
Jungkook stares at him silently, perhaps disappointed as well. By this time he must have got an idea of what is about to come, what Jimin wanted to do. Still instead of an expression of astonishment, he strangely offers Jimin an encouraging smile to continue.
Don't worry he got this. Jimin got this.
Jimin... poor unlucky helpless Jimin can only reach for the little black box in his pocket without a word. He pulls it out in a haste from his prior embarrassment, causing it to fumble in his hands and as Jimin opens the box, to no one's surprise, the ring comes slipping out. Both of them watch gasping in terror - Rolling down in the deep and it rolls and rolls and rolls along the hill slope till it gets lost in a bush.
"Park Jimin, the disaster you are today."
So yeah...
That's how the next half hour goes.
The Busan couple on their hands and knees on the rough ground desperately searching for a lost jewel in the wilderness of Tokyo. Questioning their entire existence.
Yup! Totally what they imagined life would turn out being as idol.
...Whatever.
It it Jungkook who spots the shiny piece hanging from a stem between a cluster of leaves. Cheetah may be the fastest creature on earth but it will never be able to compare with the speed Jimin leaps ahead to capture the problematic little rock in the bounds of his hands. Never.
Jimin heaves out a breath of relief while Jungkook gets up to dust his clothes. Jimin on the other hand stays on the ground, takes the one knee pose again. He holds the ring with his fingers presenting it to Jungkook.
Diamond, it is. A really big piece of diamond. Glittering and shining in its glorious crystalline shape. It is attached to a metal frame that is most likely gold judging from the lustre that radiates from within. The whole ornament has been delicately carved and personalised only for Jungkook's fit. Meant to stand as the binding of their love.
"So...Jungkookie," Jimin has a sheepish smile on his face. This moment is IT! "Will you marry me?"
"Eh, no."
That. Is something Jimin did not prepare for. It takes him by shock, an uncomfortable suffocation forms in Jimin's throat. "B-b-but wh-why?"
Jungkook shrugs. "Don't wanna."
Somehow Jimin fails to notice the overexceeding nonchalance in Jungkook's voice and a stinging sensation strikes in his eyes.
"You can't just say no...Not fair. This is homophobic."
Jungkook suddenly laughs, a smirk tugging on his lips. "No why? My will I don't want to marry you."
Jimin's heart shattered into uncountable pieces he never prepared to handle. He doesn't know why but Jungkook's rejection seemed almost otherworldly to him like tales of the moon princess Kaguya. "Is there any reason?" He sniffles.
"There is only one reason." Jungkook's smirk grows so wide evilly into a very smug face. He explains dramatically, "My boyfriend has kept me waiting for my much deserved proposal since early morning. My cute innocent self was so excited but no," Jungkook keeps a hand at his chest with a hurt saddened face, "he had to cause me immense sorrow. That betrayer failed to propose me throughout the day. And when I'm all tired and sleepy and messy from mud, leaves, thorns and god knows what! He decides to show me the ring? Is this the fate I deserve? Injustice! How do I marry such loser? You tell me. I need to keep my grace."
Jimin is silent for a while. Too much drama shit for his brain to process. And then, "Y-YOU KNEW?!?" He lets out a scream at the revelation.
"Surprise! Woo-hoo."
"But, but how? I never-"
"How you ask? Jimin, do you have any idea how loud you were reciting that speech of yours last night that, don't be offended, is super cringe to me. Like you were on till what? Three-four o' clock."
That was true. Around 3 am the previous night Jungkook was woken up by the urgent urge to pee. He scrambled out of the bed still in his sleepy state when some lame ass dialogues being spoken fell to his ears from the opposite room. He assumed he had probably forgotten to switch off the TV but listening closely, it was clearly Jimin's voice.
For a while Jungkook wondered if Jimin was possessed or something like that and if he should call for help before he sneaked up to have a peak. Jimin was there, going about in circles in the living room area with a sheet of paper in his hand. He had eyebags, a cup of coffee in the other hand. He kept parroting the corny content like a sacred mantra and Jungkook immediately searched Google maps for the nearest therapy center.
It wasn't until Jungkook heard along the lines of "I love you my Jungkookie, will you marry me?" that he got to understand what actually was going on. He then stepped back and without any other action went straight to the bed, pulling his covers over hoping he hadn't been seen. Pee long forgotten in his pitiful bladder.
Jungkook hums recalling the memory. Jimin still very much on his knees holding the ring out.
"So you won't marry me?" Jimin asks again, the heaviness in his chest has now reached up to his throat, his eyes, all over him.
"No. Get up come on."
Then it comes. Jimin couldn't bear the pain in his chest for a single second more. There is too much information to take in, too many overwhelming emotions to control. He bursts into tears. Overfilling his eyes, flowing down his red cheeks, mixing with the snot. Not just from current rejection, but they were the resultant of his whole day of bad luck and suffering. In the form of a release to ease all pent up frustrations inside. They wouldn't stop. The utter humiliation only provoking more crying to follow. He needed this.
"Hey Jimin hyung..."
"No I won't do anything until you say you will marry me!" Jimin stubbornly shakes his like a child deprived of his toys.
"Get up and put that ring on my finger, fiancee darling."
Oh. He did not just-
THIS BITCH.
Jimin is rendered speechless. Tears still continue to stream down in heavy volumes. The wide eyed 'played' look on his face is priceless. Definitely worth a photograph framed in the main lobby of Bighit- HYBE, whatever. Out of pure desperation mixed anger he finally gets up and proceeds to shove Jungkook against a tree, pouting.
"I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! I hate!"
"Lying is bad babe. You love me." This Jungkook still dares to be a cocky bastard.
Jimin roughly grabs Jungkook's hand into his, getting a tight hold onto his wrist as he presses his lips to the shell of Jungkook's ear, raspily whispering "Say you will marry me."
Jungkook complies, "I will marry Park Jimin." No more mean games now.
"Do you mean it?" This time Jimin's tone holds a sternness to it. A serious question to which Jimin expects a truly honest response.
Jungkook takes a moment to reply. To show Jimin he really put his full thought into it. "I do, future husband." He smiles tenderly when Jimin slides the magnificent diamond-gold jewel onto his right hand's ring finger. Sealing them together forever.
Jimin breathes against Jungkook's neck, burrowing his face into it. He finally got what he was craving for since months. Can you ever feel so much at a time that it makes you feel numb? A chuckle manages to break through Jimin's tears-and-snot glistened lips. "You're mine now."
"I was always yours."
Jimin's grip on Jungkook tightens possessively. He presses onto his maknae's larger figure till he is slammed again into the tree. A wince of pain leaves Jungkook's mouth which Jimin is ready to swallow by kissing him.
But the force causes that tree to shake. And a big black bug comes falling direct on Jimin's face.
A group of adventurous elementary schoolers were conducting a test of courage that night in the hills. Around the time of midnight, a high-pitched deadly scream echoed from the rumoured to be haunted woods. It was heard by everyone and it was so terrifying and so loud. Scarring the little kids for life, traumatized and never to return.
Jimin unknowingly became the most popular and most feared urban legend in town overnight. Fame.
"Why did you have to ruin it, Kookie?" Jimin speaks from where he is cuddled upto Jungkook's side, his head resting securely on the younger's chest, their hands interwined into each other's.
"Ruin what baby?" Jungkook doesn't bother to look at Jimin. Too fixated on the shoujo anime playing on TV. Second leads are so damn charming he swears.
Jimin deliberately pouts the endearing way Jungkook likes to get his attention, "You know what."
"Do I? Are you still mad about that?"
"Of course I am! I put so much effort for today. Only to what? Cry and embarrass myself?"
"But you give such cuuute reactions it's become addicting teasing you. Didn't wanna make you cry but couldn't stop. Sorry."
Jimin turns fully to face Jungkook, "Are you really sorry?"
"No, I enjoyed that actually."
A light slap falls on Jungkook's chest. And another. And another. And another. And,
"Hey stop stop. I'm sorry okay." Jungkook's giggles are annoying but he's lucky Jimin loves him.
"No but really. What is most upsetting is that you knew my plan all along. I just... can't with this fact."
"Actually hyung, I've knew you are planning to propose before we came to Tokyo."
"WAIT WHAT?!" Now how many more surprises are awaiting Jimin?? He doesn't have think.
"Haha yeah. That time you were showering. The jewelry company called up. Told that your personalised order was ready. I had recieved your phone."
"...and I was pissed at them for not informing in time. Just wow." Jimin shakes his head in disbelief. "This is the lamest marriage proposal in history."
"Aw don't say that. You know hyung... I cried that day. When I found out. Couldn't handle my happiness. I cried so much all night."
Jungkook confesses honestly, remembering when he first found out about the proposal. He was beyond moved and completely devastated with joy. In fact, he couldn't have a total control over his overbearing emotions for the next 2-3 days. A pang of guilt hurts in his heart for keeping it from his lover.
But Jimin scoffs at him, still bitter that expectations didn't meet reality. "Should've saved your tears for today. Wouldn't have been so dry then."
"It wasn't dry, you did pretty well on the crying part."
A double slap on the chest. Or rather tits.
"Shut up. I wanted to see you get emotional and touched, who I could hug. Your happy sentimental tears that I could wipe with my own hands."
"Too bad I can't force myself to tear up again, hm? Besides, you have other ways to make me cry." Jungkook's eyebrows wiggle suggestively.
Jimin knows what he is referring to. That cheeky smile plastered on Jungkook's face states more than the obvious. Him and his little tactics. Jimin's gaze turns dark at the thought. He not so subtly slips between Jungkook's legs, spreads them apart using his strong hands.
"Now that you mention, didn't you tease me a lot today baby?"
"And what If I did?" Jungkook retorts back quite arrogantly. Purposely to rile Jimin up with his mocking words. He always does that. Loves it because the result is too sinfully sweet. "You should've seen that look on your face, Jimin-ah. Worth a billion! It's a shame I didn't bring my camera with myself. Imagine if I recorded it and put out for ARMY to see. Wouldn't that be nice?"
"You're gonna regret it tonight." The husky tone in Jimin's voice is eerily deep, and it sends shivers down Jungkook's spine. Jimin shifts upwards and pins Jungkook's hands above his head in a firm hold.
Jungkook's breath hitches in his throat. He grins mischievously, spreading his legs further for his love, his boyfriend, his fiancee, his entire world. "Let's see if I do-"
Jimin shut him up with a kiss.
Jeon Jungkook really is a jerk. But that's okay, because he is Jimin's jerk.
