Misfortune Cookies

Jimin has never really been a fan of anime.

Sure, classic tunes like Pokemon, Naruto, Beyblade and few more have been part of almost every Korean's childhood. But having watched them in the past doesn't turn him into a weeb. Not at all.

Jungkook on the other hand though, is a completely different piece of specimen. He considers himself a true dedicated otaku who has spent more hours watching anime in his life than he has ever spent attending school.

If you put the two of them together as a couple, what can one expect? Peer pressure! As always. And Jimin is the one to bear it, as always. Jimin has never been as peer pressured in his life to do drugs as he has been to start anime.

And so he did. For his one stubborn brat of a lover, Jungkook's sake. Anything for him after all.

Now while Jungkook is an enthusiast of mainly action and fantasy themes, Jimin started to find a liking in the shoujo genre.

It's all about romance and cuteness. Revolving around slice of life and comedy prospects. Suits Jimin's tastes too well. He loves the slow build, the innocence of new love, the feels of spring in the air and the tooth rotting fluff of shoujo animes. He just loves it all.

The only complaint he has though, is that the amount of gay romance is considerably less. And the ones that are available are overly stereotypical and heteronormative, clearly written by a straight person. It's quite difficult to actually find a good one worth watching but Jimin just lets it slide because he is well aware of the fact that people are still not ready to openly accept same sex couples as normal.

That makes him ponder if he will ever be able to officially announce his relationship with Jungkook. He acknowledges that most fans, the true ARMYs will happily support them but the industry, the society, he'd rather not talk about it.

Anyways so romance animes! They also inspire Jimin to, sort of, be able to love Jungkook better. Like he comes across various soft moments that motivate him and many heartmelting scenes that want to make him re-enact them with Jungkook. Watching shoujo also made Jimin quite cheesy too, in a good way. Because Jungkook likes that.

Hopefully Jungkook will like what Jimin has in store for his Plan B too.

Jimin's face lights up in glee at the little decorated cardboard box he is holding in his hands. He turns back and sees Jungkook busy in pulling ropes to ring the bells. Jimin joins along, offering few coins as he claps his hand in a prayer. His box now securely kept at the porch area.

After the disastrous morning earlier, they had came to visit a nearby shrine before starting off today's date around the heavenly city of Tokyo.

The environment is tranquil, light air breathes the freshness of nature. Sun is gradually rising further up but the temperatures bare the coolness of early autumns. Seeing very few people there, it cane concluded it's a less popular area of the town. That is a good thing. Proposals in natural serenity are unique and one of a kind.

As they are leaving, Jimin picks up the cardboard box, excitedly shaking it a little bit. He can't help but smile like an idiot when he presents the box to Jungkook. Body trembling in anticipation.

"Huh, what it this hyung?"

"Fortune cookies! Try, pull one out!!" Jimin is definitely grinning far too wide to be considered sane.

Jungkook's face twists in interest. "Ohkayy ...let's see. When did you even buy these?" He questions his hyung who looks like he's gonna burst anytime soon.

"Ah from that pastry shop just a while ago." Jimin points across the road to a small pink themed shop. "While you were admiring these lion guard statues. Didn't even notice my absence eh, such a nice boyfriend." He teases.

"Hyuuuuung!" They giggle at each other.

"C'mon take out he first one you touch and read it. Lemme see your fate." Jimin motions the box once again to Jungkook with a bated breath.

The pink and white covered cardboard box contains several fortune cookies inside. There is a small cut on the upward portion but large enough to dip a hand in to pull a cookie out. Again, Jimin got this wonderful idea from an anime that rather not be named. He has positioned the cookies strategically so that the first one Jungkook grasps will, a hundred and one percent be a very certain piece.

Instead of a fortune paper that piece has Jimin's ring attatched to it. The finest diamond ring that Jimin had specifically made an order from the most prestigious jwellers in Seoul. He had this ring for over two weeks now, waiting for the perfect opportunity to come forth, and that came in the form of a vacation trip to Japan. Just the two of them.

Jimin looks up at Jungkook and sees that he is kind of still hesitating. "What? You don't want to?"

Instead of answering, Jungkook reverts the question, "Hmm... what's special today Jimin-ah? You're acting different." It's that very mischievous smile on his face, one that Jimin loves and hates at the same time. "No what if you have placed a trap inside that will bite me when I put my hand in?"

Ughh this little shit. "Jeon Jungkook that's a very bad joke mind you what the hell?!" Jimin rolls his eyes laughing.

"We both know you've done this before."

"Not this time, have my word. Hurry up! I just wanted to impress you baby. Please."

Adrenaline rushes at an unrealistic speed inside Jimin as he watches Jungkook finally pull out a fortune cookie. He is prepared. Jungkook will notice the ring and question Jimin about it. Just then, Jimin is going to get on one knee, recite his beautiful speech and propose to him.

How sweet and romantic!

"It says, 'Your day will be memorable, for good and bad reasons' ...now what does this mean?" Jungkook annnouces the small piece of paper he is holding. "Interesting." He takes a bite of the chosen cookie. "Wow it's yummy. Thank you hyung."

Wait what?

"J-Jungkook did you m-mix the cookies before taking one out?" Jimin has panic written all over his face.

"No? I pulled the first one as you said." Jungkook munches down the rest of the cookie.

Well shit.

No, it's fine. It's fine. Jimin tries to be calm. Think rationally. It must have got mixed up before. Yeah, that must be it.

Jimin frantically takes out every cookie one by one to examine, in front of a very confused Jungkook who chooses not to speak, and his fear keeps growing each time he gets disappointed. He reaches for the last one remaining in the box. He quickly pulls and cracks it, genuinely hoping for the ring to show up.

'Better luck next time!' The paper piece reads.

Only then does Jimin realise the box had a little crack at the bottom left all along.

"Just wait for me here Jungkook!"

Dread fills his gut as he desperately runs around the shrine area to look for his invaluable ring in a frenzy. He'll really have to give some answering to Jungkook but that's a worry for later. If he can't find it today, Jimin is determined to become a monk and spread the rest of his life in the mountain forests.

Luckily for him, it doesn't take too long before he gets to notice a crystalline glimmer from between the tall grasses. Only a diamond can produce a shine like that. It just has to be Jimin's ring.

Jimin's eyes follow the sparkle of the tiny rock. His ring is there, still attached to the fortune cookie that had probably slipped out. And the said cookie is... hanging in the air.

Jimin squints to see better.

The shine is from the ring... the ring is in the fortune cookie... the cookie is firmly held... between something...

Between the sharp canines of a feral looking dog.

No, no. No!

"Don't eat that. Please please please don't." Jimin chants as he tries to get closer to the dog. The little Shiba Inu, by the looks of it, retreats backwards on instinct, carrying the piece of cookie in its mouth.

Jimin gets on all fours. "You're a good boy, such a good boy." He slowly crawls towards the dog, probably trying to resemble it to get familiarity. "Leave that dirty cookie. It's bad. Good boys don't eat bad things."

Jimin has such a predatory expression on his face. Plus he is scared from within. Giving him a horrific constipated look. Even the dog is glaring at him judgingly.

"Give that to me, such a good boy." When Jimin is close enough to pounce and grab his ring back, the dog lets out a small bark. Jimin prays all gods he doesn't get bitten.

But instead, the dog makes a run.

"FUCKING GET BACK HERE SON OF A BITCH."

Jimin sprints upto his feet almost animalistically. Out of all the situations he could imagine for losing his ring, getting eaten by a dog was one he never saw coming. A lesson to be learned.

The poor dog dashes out of the shrine area to protect its meal. And so does poor Jimin to protect his ring.

"Hyung where are you going leaving me behind here?!" Jungkook shouts from where he is stood at the exact spot Jimin commanded him to. He had been feasting on Jimin's rejected fortune cookies to pass the time as he waited for Jimin. But receiving no response, he does what anyone else would do.

And thus we have a very puzzled Jungkook chasing after a very frustrated Jimin chasing after a very weirded out dog running for dear life.

A scene straight out of a rom-com anime. Sigh. It is going to be a long day.
