19 |Odysseus and Penelope|

After having an important call with Lily about her daughter I hung up and instantly my eyes zeroed in on the coffee shop a few doors down on the street.

"Look Marco," I said, catching his attention. He was busy on his phone as well while I was discussing Lily's decision with her. "Can we go in?"

"I don't think we have enough time," he said, grabbing my hand and ready to walk across the street with me in tow.

"Marco I really want a cup of coffee though," I whine, trying to drag him to the nearest coffee shop.

"You hardly ever drink coffee," he responded, refusing to let me pull him in. "Why are you so insistent anyways? We can have coffee at my parent's house now let's go."

Busy New Yorkers paid us no attention while I had both hands wrapped around Marco's bicep, struggling to pull him towards the old coffee shop.

"But I want it here," I said, growing frustrated. When Marco once again pulled his arm back from me I huffed and turned towards the door. "Fine, I'll just go in by myself."

"You don't have any money babe," he laughed. "You gave me your wallet."

I mentally cursed myself for begging him to hold my wallet earlier. "Guess I'll just have to flash the barista to get a free drink then."

I walk into the shop and little less than twenty seconds later Marco joins me, grumbling under his breath.

"Darling as much as I want to relax and drink some coffee with you," he said, grabbing me by the hips and pulling me towards him, "I have a meeting in an hour."

"A meeting," I asked confused. "You didn't say anything about a meeting."

"I know," he sighed, "but that's what I was talking on the phone about. Somebody just wants to buy the island I inherited from my Dad. You know the one I told you about?"

"You know all I inherited from my Mom was a couple thousand dollars saved up, not a whole island," I teased.

He smiled and leaned down to plant a kiss on my neck. "It could be our island soon," he murmured onto my skin.

"Two years," I corrected. I pulled myself away from him making him pout in disappointment. I reached the counter and ordered both of our drinks since I knew exactly what Marco liked.

"It will be out shorty. Sit anywhere you want," the barista, an older man with a curled mustache told us.

I nodded my head and made my way towards a table in the center of the room.

"Well," I said since I knew Marco was right behind me. "Aren't you glad I didn't flash that man?"

"You might as well have because he couldn't take his damn eyes off your breasts," he grumbled, planting his hand on my shoulder and steering me towards an empty table.

"I want to sit over there though." I pulled away from his grasp quickly.

"Somebody is already sitting there though El," he said but I didn't listen. I weaved through chairs and people until I got to the table I've been secretly eyeing since I walked inside. I sat down in one of the two empty seats across from the man in the baseball hat and glasses.

"El," Marco said, coming towards us with the intention of pulling me away. When he got close enough and reached out his hand I took it and pulled him down in the seat next to me. He nearly knocked the table over.

"I remember you being more graceful. Has these past couple weeks really changed you that much," the man said.

Marco stilled beside me, his jaw slacking in shock as he stared at the man before clenching in anger and turning towards me.

"Eliza," he growled, "we need to leave."

"No," I exclaimed and pulled my hand out of his grip. "You aren't leaving here until you forgive your brother."

"Please listen to what I have to say Marco," Xander pleaded. He pulled off his glasses and hat, catching the attention of a few customers nearby. They instantly knew who he was but too scared to say anything.

"We're in public meaning you can't tackle him to the ground," I told Marco, knowing exactly what he was thinking right now.

He huffed and turned his head so it was facing away from both of us.

"Marco," I said softly, touching his shoulder. He relaxed under my touch but I knew it wouldn't be enough. "No matter what happens or what happened before this moment, I still love you. Nothing and no one can change that," I promised.

He turned around to face me, his brown eyes wide and vulnerable. He needed to know that I was here and I wasn't going to hurt him again.

"The least you could do would be to listen to your brother and try to forgive him."

"You don't think I've been trying for the past three weeks Eliza," he said, his voice louder than most around us. He caught the eye of an elderly woman glaring at him in distaste.

"You haven't listened to anything I've had to say though," Xander spoke up. "Maybe it will help?"

"It's because I don't want to listen to anything you have to say," Marco snarled. "But there is something I've wanted to ask you." Marco leaned across the table, his face set into a warriors glare. I knew that whatever he had to say wouldn't be pretty but there wasn't anything I could do about it. They're brothers, they can't forgive each other through nice words, and it's in their blood to do it through screaming accusations and hard punches. Although Marco had already beaten Xander once so I hoped that had passed.

"How did it feel to stab your own brother in the back?"

Xander winced in the hurt that Marco projected to him. He sighed and leaned up against the table, his hands folded neatly on it.

"I need you to know that it was the biggest mistake I've ever made. I've regretted it every day since."

Marco scoffed and turned his head once again.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. This was going to be harder than I thought.

"Marco you need to listen to him," I told him softly, hoping he would accept and make this whole thing easier.

"I don't want to. It won't make up for what he did to me."

"I know it won't," Xander agreed. "No amount of apologies could right what I did wrong. I just wish you could be a good man and brother and forgive me."

"A good man and brother," Marco asked incredulously before laughing dryly. It was a maniac laugh, it was a laugh you heard right before the villain pushed the red button and the whole world exploded. "Just like you were huh?"

"Marco," Xander pleaded.

"No," Marco said, slamming his fist down on the table. "I don't want to hear your fucking apologies Xander!"

Seconds later the barista came by with our coffees and before Marco could take his and pour it on his brother I slid it to the side.

"We're grownups now Marco! You can't go around and hate everyone that did you wrong. You need to forgive," Xander whisper yelled, anger written all over his face.

"Well you can't go around and sleep with the woman I love," Marco yelled back, not bothering to be quiet about it.

"Marco," Xander hissed his eyes wide in panic as they surveyed the room. "You can't say things like that. I have my wedding in two days and if this got out," he paused, looking around once more. "I might lose Aria again if she finds out what I did."

Xander sighed in defeat and held his head in his hands. It's hard to believe I'm sitting across from Xander Stavros because he's nothing like I remembered. The Xander I knew wouldn't care if he broke a girl's heart. He would shrug it off and move onto the next girl.

He really had changed.

"So you're going to lie to her just like you lied to me," Marco asked deadly calm.

It caught both mine and Xander's attentions. We looked at him with curiosity and confusion.

"I don't want to," Xander clarified. "But I don't want her to know who I used to be before she came along. She's never seen the part of me and I know if she did than she would run in the other direction."

"But she's having your child isn't she," I asked him confused. "She wouldn't leave you now."

"That's why I love her," Xander said, a smile playing on his lips. I could see the adoration in his eyes and it over whelmed me. "She isn't like any other girl I've met. She's strong, she doesn't lean on anyone else but herself and she's braver than most. She knows what it's like to be raised by one parent or none. If she thought it was better for her and our child than she would do it, she would leave me."

"You love her because she could leave you at any moment and take your child with? That doesn't sound right," Marco told him.

"No," Xander chuckled and shook his head. "I love her because she's independent and she doesn't stand for my shit. If I mess up she'll tell me, and I find that very honorable. Besides, I'll have fun finding ways to make her fall in love with me every single day."

I couldn't help but smile at Xander. He was completely in love and I knew he found the one, his soul mate.

"I'll forgive you on one condition," Marco said softly.

"What is it," Xander said urgently, his patience thinning out.

"You have lied to me for five years brother and that is what hurts the most," Marco admitted. "If you would have told me the truth sooner I wouldn't have been so angry with you and I would have been able to understand the real reason why Eliza left."

Xander bowed his head in shame. "I was afraid of telling you."

"The truth hurts more and more as you continue to keep it hidden." Xander did not reply so Marco continued. "You need to know that lying only makes things worse. That's why you're going to tell Aria about everything that happened that night."

Xander and I both snapped our heads towards Marco in shock.

"But Marco," I said, "you heard what he said. She might leave him."

"Please Marco," Xander begged, reaching out to take his brothers hand.

"No," Marco declared. "You can't keep lying to people because you're afraid of the truth!"

"But I did tell you the truth," Xander argued, pulling his hands back.

"Yeah after five years," Marco sneered. "You watched me have a broken heart which shouldn't have been broken in the first place. You let me berate myself as I thought that I pushed away the woman I loved. I thought Eliza hated me, I thought all of her feelings were false because she left me and you saw how that tore me up inside Xander! All you had to do was tell me the truth!"

"Marco," he begged, "please, do not make me do this. I'll do anything else."

"I've made my decision brother," Marco said as he stood up from the table. "We will be there at the wedding but you will need to tell her before then. And if you don't I will find out."

Xander scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Well you'll be the only people there. Hardly anyone is coming because they hate me for what I did to you. Hell, maybe my bride won't even show up," he grumbled.

"I'll make sure they all come," Marco told him softly. He grabbed my and pulled me up along with him. "But the truth does need to come out Xander or it will destroy everything farther down the road."

We left the coffee shop behind, not bothering to look back. I was glad that Marco was willing to forgive Xander but I was afraid of what Xander would have to go through to get his brother back.
