Strange time
Hi! First of all, I'm sorry it takes so long to uploud this story. It wasn't too easy to fix what I destroy, so I rewrote it maybe a few times, but this version does not satisfate me either, however I promise to uploud it until the end of the week before, so I'm late anyway, but I was afraid I rewrite it once again it would have been out next month. So I wish you good time while reading and nice rest of the week!
It was a rainy morning at Pontypandy. Penny and Emily were walking down the street to fire station while the rain wettered their jackets. Emily usually was shy and quiet, but in this week she was more talkative. The women walked past Dilys' Store when Emily broke down the silence.
"It was a exhausted week. I have never been at that countless of actions."
"It wasn't exhausted, it was strange. More than half of our calls was false. I still wonder why... It was thoughtless and dangerous" Penny said calm, looking at younger firefighter.
"I understand" Emily commented thoughfully. "Do you know have the other part of team had as much false alarms as we had?" she added mischievously.
"I have no idea, but I'm more thoughtful if they are alright?" Penny answered worriedly.
"Why are you worring about them? They probably don't even think of you" Emily said haughty. Penny, hearing this, stopped walking. She looked surprised into Emily's eyes while Emily crossed her arms at her chest.
"Emily, I know it may sounds strange, because it's diffrent and usually something new, but we are a team" Penny underlined her last words. "We always work together and this wouldn't be possible if we didn't care about each other" Penny encouragely placed her hand at her friend's shoulder. "If you want to be a good teammate, you must forget about I, because there is no I in the team. We rely on each other so we shouldn't be selfish. This could only put us in uncomfortable situations" they started walking again. "Furthermore, we all are, or were"she sighed"friends, so we stand by each other in good times or troubles and that's what friends are for."
"So why have you argued with Ellie?" Emily asked trying to seem innocent. Penny, hearing this question, stopped immediately in the move and was speechless for a little moment.
"I don't like when people treat unfair the other people" Penny answered briefly and came inside the garage of Pontypandy Fire Station. She welcame Sam with wave of her hand, he smiled and they exchanged a few words, while Emily left them alone.
When Sam opened his locker, something strange caught his and Penny's attention. It was a piece of paper with a kind of message written down on it. The writing was handwritten and looked like Elvis'. It said:
Hey! I write only to tell you that our: mine, Ellie's and Arnold's, uniforms surprisingly have been disappearing for a few weeks. Are yours on their places?
Meet with me when shifts change at office, so we can talk about it.
Elvis
"What is happening here by this few weeks? We have been getting false alarms almost five times per one shift and the others' uniforms have been disappearing. It's even too strange for Pontypandy, where all the things diffrent from normal ones, can happen" Sam thought loudly.
"It is not so important now. We should focus on work and you should think what you tell Elvis" Penny said a little strenly.
"What?! Why me?" Sam asked surprised, which cost him a gentle blow on arm. "Why can't you go?" he rubbed his arm slowly.
"Don't be silly, Sam! Elvis left the message in your locker, not in mine. Besides you have to end this show with this argument. Talk honestly with him. If I were him and was still angry at you after this strange message, I surely wouldn't leave the message in your locker, moreover I would not write the last sentance" she shook the letter right in front of his eyes, so he could see it clearly. "It will be definately beter if you tell him how important was for you your friendship" she encouragely put her hand on his shoulder.
"Maybe you're right and the talk really will help me" Sam said surely, although he still wasn't absolutely sure.
"Of course it will" she chuckled and that made Sam chuckled too. "Even in the worst case, you will feel better with it, because you will know you try everything" she turned around to look him in the eye, while they were going upstairs.
"Thank you Penny. I can always count on you, can't I?" Sam asked mischievously.
"You behave really stupid today, Sam, do you know that" she commented as mischievously. And they laughed out loud when they reached the kitchen.
"And how are you and Ellie?" Sam asked slowly, putting the kettle on.
"Nothing change. I haven't really had a chance to talk with her" she answered sadly, pouring the juice to her cup.
"I'm sorry" Sam said looking by the window.
"Why?" Penny picked up her surprised gaze.
"That I will have at least a chance to make it clear with Elvis and you won't."
"Sam, please, don't blame yourself, because of me" she friendly shook his shoulder. "You get the chance, so try. Don't give up on your and Elvis' friendship, because I don't have a chance either."
"But your friendship is also vey important to me" he said quietly, looking her in the eye to prove his words.
"Are you really thinking I would argue with you only due to your chance?" She asked really teasingly, Sam almost heard Ellie's irony in Penny's voice. It was so strange how many things Penny and Ellie found they have in common and now they didn't talk with each other. It made his mood only worse. "Sam, it is the same way for me. I really value our friendship" she smiled encouragically and very friendly at the same time, which on the other hand changed Sam's mood for better.
Next morning
The night shift went quite calmy, not including three false alarms: one at the sea and two at the mountains and in the caves. When the shift finally ended and was a time for changing shifts, Penny sent Sam encouraging smile last time, wished him lack, then they both waved for a goodbye. Emily slowly went alone out the fire station, but it was obvious she hesitated with every step. The same went for Sam when he stood, waiting for Elvis to come. He saw Ellie and Arnold, waved to them, they waved back walking to their lockers. Sam hesitated only a moment more, but he finally came to them.
"Have you seen Elvis?" He asked casually. It didn't fade his attention when they exchanged looks and smiled.
"He should be here at the moment. He walked with us, but stopped for a moment when we came in" Arnold answered.
"Maybe he is too scared to talk with you" Ellie joked. It was probably so natural for her and everyone has got used to it since she came to Pontypandy. Still it was always funny when she was around.
"No, he isn't" Elvis, who just came to them, interrupted Ellie before she had even a shadow of chance to tell something new. "Can we?" Elvis looked at Sam, however without making eye contact. Sam only nodded and they left Ellie and Arnold.
When Sam closed the office door behind him, he found courage to look Elvis in the eye. He looked as exhausted as Sam thought he has looked by this whole time since they argued. By this time Elvis looked at the floor with his posture completely low. Sam took a step forward, but stopped, when Elvis stepped back. Just then their made an eye contact and Sam saw Elvis' tears shone in his eyes.
"I guess you want to see it before we start talking" Elvis whispered and threw his phone in Sam's hands. Sam took it slowly and saw the phone has been already opened. What his eyes saw, made his heart stopped for a moment. It was this strange message, of which it all has started. His and Elvis' argument, Penny's and Ellie's as well, changes in shifts that made them all tired physically and mentally. When he calmed down a little, he read what the message said:
Hey! I write only to tell you I am very disappointed about our friendship. I always thought you would change and grow up, but you are still a child and if it would be me who really lead here and have something to say you would be fired years ago. You haven't change since we were kids and I know you too well and it become boring to me. So, in other words if you don't understand, I don't want to have a friend in you!
Last words,
Sam
"Elvis, I didn't write it, you know me. I wouldn't write something like this messege to anyone. Especially to my best friend. Do you really think I would think of you that way? Without you nothing is the same..." Sam said sadly, his voice were breaking.
"Like without Penny" Elvis mumbled, but Sam heard it too well.
"What?" Sam wanted to said something else, but Elvis ran to him and hugged him so hard that Sam hardly caught a breath, as much as from surprise as from hug's strenght.
"Please, forgive me if you could" Elvis started, but then they ended together in union. They laughed, stood in front of each other and looked into their eyes.
"Of course. I'm not angry, Elvis. You were angry that day, it just hurted me. Where can I find a better friend than you?" Sam asked joking, assured he again had a friend.
"Does it mean we can be friends again?" Elvis asked a little too silly to seemed truely.
"Didn't I say that before?"
"You said, Sam, but we also have a friends like a brigde, which hold as both together. But I suspect one is really special for you" Elvis asked mischieviously and he smiled with satisfaction when Sam looked at him puzzled. "I mean Penny" Elvis laughed straight into Sam's blushed face.
"I see we go to normal again" Sam grabbed his forehead and shook his head when Elvis once again laughed childishly, like Elvis.
"Yes, we do. And I'm so happy that it is once more normal" this time they both laughed.
"It will be, when Penny and Ellie also get well on together and this crazy things will finally end" Sam sighed.
"We need to help Penny and Ellie, then make it finally to Pontypandy's normal" Elvis summed up. The rest of evening they were sitting, discussing how to make it happen. However at that moment Sam was already lucky and the only thing clouded his mind was Penny. He promised himself he would do everything to make her happy a long time ago and in this case it would be great opportunity to fullfit this promise.
