Chapter 3
Shay's POV
I leave Kathryn in the care of the Finnegans until I come back. I walk out the door, and I see one of those gang members that were harassing the Finnegans. Then the gang member sees me.
"You again! You'll regret this!" The gang member yells at me, "The Finnegans are dead! Hear me?! Dead!" The gang member runs away, and he throws a smoke bomb on the ground. I chase the gang member on the roof tops, "putting your nose in other people's business ain't nice!" He taunts me.
The gang member jumps into a hay bale, he gets out of it and I jump into the same hay bale. I quickly get out of the bay bale and I continue to case after him.
"You picked the wrong side!" The gang member yells at me again. I chase him onto the rooftops again where I finally catch him. I grab him by the collar of his shirt. I look at him angrily.
"What have you and your friends got against the Finnegans!" I ask him with irritation in my voice. The gang member looks at me with fear.
"I got no gripe! My boss sent me over," he tells me with fear.
"Ah? And where's he set up?" I ask him.
"You can't miss it! There's always black smoke rising from the courtyard at that building!" The gang member tells me and he points to the direction of the building, and sure enough there was black smoke rising in the distance.
I go to the the gang headquarters that the gang member told me about. I reach it and the first thing I see is the flag. It was orange with a Assassin insignia with a fire in the middle of it.
I need to kill the gang leader and I need to cut down the flag. I sneak into the gang headquarters and I decide to kill the gang leader first. I quietly kill some of the other gang members that are close to him. Then I get behind the gang leader and I assassinate him. He gags and then he falls to the ground.
Then I look around and I see some snipers on the rooftops. I get on the roof tops and I kill the snipers. I go to the flag pole and I climb up it. I in sheath my sword and I cut down the flag. The flag flies down on the ground. I slide down the pole and I pick up the flag and I find a fire pit and I throw the flag into it, burning it.
After I burned the flag I see a dead body on the ground. I walk up to it, and I see a grey cloth around his neck. I grab it.
"That will help with smoke," I say to myself. I tie it around my neck and I tuck it in between my coat. I turn around and I see someone walk up to me. He sort of looked like she militarily general from the British army. I glare at him, know what those people are doing to the Colonists.
I put my hand on one of my pistols in my holsters. He looks at my movements, know what I am about to do.
"Be at ease, Master Cormac, we are friends," He says. How did he know my last name? And we are no friends, "The Finnegans were worried you might take matters into your own hands. I am Coronal George Monroe,"
"Coronal," I address him. He looks around.
"I came to help, but I see I am late," he says, "Thank you for dealing with these foal criminals. They were a blight on New York," I scoff.
"Why do you care?" I ask him harshly, "you redcoats are nothing but landlords. The townsfolk here are grinding away, trying to make a living," Coronal Monroe shakes his head.
"I cannot blame you for having that impression. Some of my comrades have been less than helpful," he says sadly, "but I take a different approach,"
"And what is that?" I ask, still not trusting him.
"I care. I want to see these Colonists safe and prosperous," He says, I shrug.
"Noble words," I say. You can say that you care, but it means more to actually show that you care.
"Perhaps, actions will convince you otherwise, Master Cormac," he says. He gestures for me to follow him. I follow him to a small warehouse in what was once a gang stronghold. I see a chest in there.
"Here, reclaim what they have stolen," he says referring to the gang members. I take the money out of the chest.
"Now let,us use that money for the good of the city," Coronal Monroe tells me, "I realise that you have no reason to trust me, Master Cormac," I start to follow him again.
"You said you were a friend of the Finnegans?" I asks him.
"I am. Their late son son....... worked for me. You are much like him," he says.
"How so?" I ask him.
"He cared. And he wanted to do good by the people," he tells me, "We shared a dream he and I, that of making the world a better place. Mere survival is not enough. Full bellies, warm clothing....... freedom from want is the greatest freedom of all," I scoff.
"It almost sounds like you have good will towards the people you govern," I say.
"I do not govern, Master Cormac, I merely assist," he says. I follow the Coronal to a rundown building, a chapel.
"See thus neglected edifice, Master Cormac. We can make it better," Coronal Monroe says, "Urban renewal is a new science, but one that has already proven effective on the Continent. I have arranged for resources, use them to improve that building," I arrange to have the chapel renavated. Hopefully in time New York will be a better place.
"I suspect New York will proper under your watch, Master Cormac," Coronal Monroe says, "you can do great things for this city and it's citizens. After all a man needs purpose," I look at him.
"I already have purpose, my wife gives me purpose," I tell him. He nods.
"Ah yes, how is she?" He asks.
"Fine, thank you," I say.
"Anyway, fare well, Master Cormac," he says then he leaves. Then I walk back to the Finnegans.
