Chapter 20
Me and Shay go above deck and he takes the wheel of the ship. Gist smiles at us.
"Ah, good day to you Captain Cormac, Miss Cormac," Gist says, "How are the children?" I look at him.
"Just fine," I tell him, "There resting right now," I smile at him. Shay looks at Gist.
"Man your post, Gist, the Coronal is in trouble," Shay tells him. Gist rasies an eyebrow.
"What do you mean 'in trouble'?" Gist asks Shay. Shay looks at Gist.
"He's at Fort William Henry facing imposible odds," Shay tells Gist. Gist nods and he looks at the crew.
"Get off your lazy arses, lads! And man your stations! We raise anchor!" Gist shouts at the crew. The crew then quickly start to do their jobs. Then Gist looks at Shay and me.
"Sorry about the early libation, Captain and Lady," Gist says, "But do you both realize it had been a year since we first met? A whole year! Changed my life you both did," I smile at Gist, he chuckles "And for the better. You will forgive me if I've er, celebrating without you," Shay looks out at the sea.
"A whole year....Gist, I've a question for you. How long have you known of our, well former allegiance?" Shay asks Gist. Gist looked confused for a moment but then it clicked in his mind.
"Oh, you mean the Assassins? I knew that ages ago, Shay! I may be drunk but I'm not blind," Gist tells him, "Or did you think I would assume you both escaped from a homicidal circus?" I couldn't help but laugh when Gist said 'homicidal circus'. Shay looks at him again.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Shay asked him.
"Well, the Coronal wanted us to avoide the subject so it wouldn't, you know, influence your decision making," Gist tells us.
"Makes sense," I say. Gist smiles and nods at me.
"You both saved my life out of pure selfless instinct, and helped countless others besides if it were up to me I would have made you both official Templars months ago," Gist tells us. I look at Gist.
"Then who is it up to?" I ask him, Shay looks at Gist.
"Monroe mentioned a Grandmaster," Shay says. Gist chuckles.
"Oh, yes. A Grandmaster of a Colonial Rite. You'll both like him, his father was an Assassin," Gist says cheerfully.
"Like mine," I say, "My parents were also Assassins," Gist looks at me.
"What do you mean 'were'?" Gist asks me. I look at him with a blank exoression on my face.
"They died when I was ten. They were killed by Templars," I tell him, "And for the most part I partially devoted my life to the Creed and to killing Templars. Until recently of course," Gist stiffens a little bit, and I descide to mess witn him more, "And be careful not to get me mad because there could be some serious consequences," Gist takes a few steps away from me, Shay couldn't hold back his laughter while I did my best to keep mine in.
"She's just kidding, Gist," Shay manages to say through the laughter.
"Anyway, what is the news fromFort William Henry?" Gist asks us.
"The garrison is surrounded and reinforcements are late," Shay tells Gist.
"General Montcalm has been blazing a path across the Colonies for King Louis, hasn't he?" Gist asks.
"I'd rather wished he stayed home with his mistress," Shay says. Gist smirks.
"His or King Louis's?" Gist asks. I roll my eyes at their conversation. Shay smirks.
"Either!" Shay glances at me and smirks, "Though I suspect the King's is finer,"
"Indeed, Madam O'Murphy is supposed to be quite the charmer," Gist says.
"An O'Murphy is in the French king's bed? Now I know your pulling my leg," look up at Shay and I make a fake smile and then I punch him in the stomach. Shay groans and I smirk.
"I love you, Shay," I tell him in a sing song. Shay looks down at me.
"Aye, sure you do," He says sarcastically. Sometime later we arrive at Fort William Henry in the River Valley area. Before me and Shay get off I look at Gist.
"Gist, could you watch the children?" I ask him. Gist smiles at me.
"Of course, the little ones are never a trouble," Gist says. I smile at him and me and Shay then get off the ship and help Coronal Monroe.
