Chapter 16
After Gist went off to meet up with Shay. I go into the Captain's Cabin where my chest of weapons is at. I search the cabin and I find the rather large black chest.
I open the chest with the key that I kept in a small pouch. I kneel down and I open the chest. I find my hidden blade, daggers, my bow and quiver, and my throwing knives.
I slip my hidden blade on and I flex my wrist. The blade comes out and the goes back into the bracer.
I take my bracer off and I look into the chest again and I see a small brown figurine at the bottom. I pick it up and it is the wolf figurine that Liam gave to me on my 18th birthday about four years ago. That was the day Shay proposed.
I stair at the little figurine of a wolf in the palm of my hand. When I was a child the wolf was my favorite animal. I run my fingers on the beautifully crafted wolf. A tear rolls down my cheek. I quickly wipe it away and I put the figurine back in the chest.
I pull out my bow and quivet that still had some arrows in it. Kasagawase gave me the bow and quiver when I was about 11 years old. At the time I was learning how to use ranged weapons.
I was completely useless with a gun. So Kasagawase taught me how to use a bow and I excelled.
I look at the bow and I see all of the symbols I crafted into it over the years. I put my bow down and I pull out an arrow that I made. There was red feathers and a grey arrow head at the end.
I put the arrow away and I grip my sliver locket around my neck. Then I turned ten my parents gave me the locket. We never had much money so I bet it costed them a fortune. I look at the engraving.
Mhà sinn gràdh thu ann an seo bheatha agus anns an ath (May we love you in this life and in the next). Scottish Gaelic is the language that phrase is written in. My parents spoke it often when we were at home. Oh, God, how I miss them so.
On the locket the Assassin insignia was engraved into it too. I trace the outline of the insignia with my finger. I sigh and I let go of the locket that I'm still wearing.
I run a hand through my long dark brown hair. But then my hand fall donw on my side. I then get up from the ground.
Then I go lie down on the bed in the cabin. I put a hand on my swelling stomach. I make small circles with my fingers.
"Your mummy is very board," I talk to my unborn baby. As if in response the baby starts to kick some. I sit up from the bed and I get up from the bed.
I go to a shelf and my green eyes scan through the books on the shelf. I grab a random book from the shelf, not really bothering to read the title. I start to read the book.
After about two hours I am about half way through the book. But then I hear the cabin door opening and closing. I look up from the book and I see Shau walking up to me. But he looked a little off.
Regardless I walk up to him with a smile on my face. Shay wraps me in his arms. I could smell some liqueur on him.
"Hello, love," his words were slurred. He kissed my lips and I could taste the faint liqueur taste on his lips.
"Your drunk," I tell him. He shakes his head. He nuzzles his head in the crook of my neck.
"No, I'm not," he tries to deny it. But me knowing him going on 8 years now, I knew when he was drunk. He then lifts headband he looks at me. He kisses my forehead.
"Get some sleep," I tell him. I wanted him to sleep it off. He shakes his head.
"No," he says. I know if he doesn't go to sleep now, he will just pass out on the floor. Better to pass out on a bed than on a floor. I sigh and I lead him to the bed and I push him onto the bed. In a matter of moments he is snoring soundly.
I smile and I kiss his forehead. I start to turn to walk away but then I feel myself being pulled onto the bed.
Shay wraps his arms around me and he continues sleeping. I sigh and I reach my hand up to his face to caress his cheek.
A yawn escapes my mouth and I slowly drift off to sleep.
