Chapter 29

~Mabel's POV~

"I can't believe you just left him there!" I yelled at Grunkle Stan, tears welling up in my eyes. We were all in Stanford's hospital room. From what I could tell, he looked fine. I guess the nurses weren't certain he was completely healed.

Grunkle Stan buried his face in his hands. "I know." It came out strangled and quiet. Some of my anger melted, replaced by pity.

"I just..." I tried to say without breaking down. I took a deep breath. "He's my brother."

Grunkle Stan put an arm around me. "I know how you feel. And we're not gonna leave your brother there for thirty years like I did." He ruffled my hair. "Besides, what kind of guardian would I be if I had to tell your parents that I lost Dipper to an evil dream demon?"

I gave him a little smile. "So, what's the plan?"

Stan rubbed his chin. "Hmm, not sure."

Just then, the door opened to a nurse. She had bright red hair and a clipboard was covering her face. "Um, Mr. Pines," she dropped the clipboard from his face. A smile spread across my lips. "Wendy!"

She blinked. "Uh...who are you?"

My smile disappeared. "Uh, it's me, Mabel," I said.

She gave me a weird look. Then she saw Grunkle Stan. "Oh. Perfect."

She looked back at her clipboard. "Mr. Pines, you're free to go."

A smile spread across Stanford's face. "Finally!" He jumped out of the hospital bed, making Wendy gasp. "I don't think-"

"Let's go," Ford said with a smile on his face.

We all ran past Wendy, who looked a little shaken up. I couldn't believe she didn't remember me!

~Dipper's POV~

Dipper tried to comfort me, telling me we'd get out of of this, but I wasn't feeling optimistic at the moment. In fact, I finally knew exactly how Dipper had felt before. Great. I'm depressed.

Don't give up! Dipper said encouragingly.

I ignored him.

You wouldn't leave me alone, and I'm not leaving you alone, got it?

I rolled my eyes. Why can't you just... I couldn't think of a good comeback. It was like I was too depressed to think clearly.

Dipper sighed. "Look, I know how you feel, okay? I made it through a year of this."

I winced. I knew I wouldn't make it a year.

"Get a grip!" Dipper said, shaking me by the shoulders. "You're family is still alive! That's something to live for, right?"

I shrugged. "I guess so."

"Well then, I suggest you quit this pity party and get out there!" He pointed towards the door. Just as he did that, the door slammed open. Bill walked in. "Pine Tre-" he cut off when he saw Dipper. Then a smile spread across his human face. "Oh. Well then. Nice to have you back, kid."

Dipper crossed his arms. "Yeah, no thanks to you."

Bill looked a little surprised that Dipper was standing up to him. "Well, well," Bill said. "When did Pine Tree grow up and get a backbone? I like it."

Dipper rolled his eyes. "Leave the kid alone, Bill. Haven't you hurt him enough? With the rate this is going, he's going to lose his mind!"

Bill shrugged. "Well, that was kinda the idea."

My heart skipped a beat. Lose my mind? Perfect.

"Now, if you would just move aside-"

"No!" Dipper said, crossing his arms. "I won't let you hurt him the way you hurt me! No one should ever have to go through that!" He stuck his hand out in front of him, but nothing happened. He cursed under his breath and Bill smiled. "Ah, you're human now. You have no powers. That mean, if I hurt you, you won't heal as fast."

"No!" I shouted. "Don't hurt him. I-I'll come with you."

Dipper whipped around. "What? No! You can't!" The pained expression on his face almost stopped me.

Bill simply waved his hand, and Dipper was knocked to the side. I gasped and ran over to him. He'd hit the wall and slid to the ground. There was blood, too much of it, but I had no idea how to stop it.

"Oh, he's fine," Bill said. "A blow like that will simply knock him out for a while. And the blood loss won't be fatal." He grabbed me by the back of the shirt and carried me like a kitten or something out of the room. I struggled feeble, but why? He was just going to hurt me anyway. I had to think of a way out of this. Think, Dipper, think!

Nothing.

I noticed that I couldn't breath. I tried to, but the front of my shirt was cutting off my air. I tried to gasp for breath, but it was useless. But, how am I still alive? I feel fine. Then I kinda had some sort of panic attack. I needed air, but at the same time....I didn't. My head was spinning. This made no sense, whatsoever. I stopped trying to get a breath in. Except for this feeling of needing air, I felt fine. It just kinda felt like you were wearing a turtleneck that was a little too tight.

"Now, let's see..." Bill was thinking out loud. He dropped me on the hard stone floor. I gasped for breath. "Ah, let's see, resistance, obedience or limits?" He seemed to be talking to himself. How do I even get into these situations? What did I ever do to deserve this?

"Hmm, I know," Bill turned to me. "Let's test your immortality."

The insane glow in his eyes told me it was going to be painful.

~Not-Really-Demon Dipper's POV~

After I blacked out, I had the same dream I'd had for the last week or so. I was standing over Mabel's bed again, holding the knife in my hand. As much as I tried to keep it up in the air, something stronger always pushed it down. I could see her eyes fly open and hear her terrible cry of pain, tears running down her face. And she only ever said one thing. "Dipper...?"

That one word made it feel like she'd taken that knife from me and plunged it into my heart and twisted it. I'd pulled the knife out, just making more blood come. It ran out the side of her mouth and she didn't tear her eyes away from me. She looked at me like I'd betrayed her. That one look brought me back to reality. Tears streamed down my face, but I grabbed Mabel. "No, no, no!" I whispered through my tears. "Mabel. No!" I was sobbing by then. "Bill!" I screamed. I felt my mind slowly slipping away. "No, Mabel, please! You...you have to stay with me. You're my sister, and I love you." My voice cracked at the end.

Then Grunkle Stan would run into the room and my vision went white. Then, when it came back, I found the Shack burned to a crisp at my feet, my hands and clothes covered in blood. I turned to run into the woods, like I had done originally, but this was a dream. My legs went out from under me and left me sobbing there on the ground.

Then something moved beside me. I knew what it was, so I didn't turn to see it. "Dipper, I'm right here..."

It was Mabel's voice. I swallowed. "No you're not."

I'd had this dream enough to know that Mabel's ghost was behind me, bloody and semi-transparent. I couldn't take it. I broke down crying right there. I wanted the firefighters and policemen to find me, to but me in jail, or an mental hospital. I didn't want to hurt anyone else. They'd find me, and I'd never had to live through this nightmare of a life.

Then, I had an idea. One my dream had never had before. I'm human. I'm sane. I'm fragile. If Bill pushes me too hard and turns me insane again, I could end up in a mental hospital. The thought both scared me and interested me.

Then my dream changed, and I don't remember the last part of it.

I should've probably warned you this was gonna be sad

Muhahaha

Spoiler: I'm really Steven Moffet

Jk, jk

But I should probably switch these two's name's around. I mean "demon" Dipper's human now, and "human" Dipper's a demon now. I'll change it if I remember.
