Kei knew about Soulmates, after all... everyone did... It's one of the first things you learn as a child. When you're born you have a unique mark in a unique colour on the palm of both of your hands that only you have, no one, not even your twin or siblings, has the same mark as you or the same colour. Yes, when you're young the base of your mark is the same as your siblings and maybe one of your parents if not both (but that's extremely rare), but the colour, the colour is different. It's said that the colour of your mark is the colour of your soul, the colour that people are gonna associate with you because it's the colour of your aura, the colour of your personality...

But as you grow older and you mature, gaining experience, and find your footing, there will be another piece added to your Soul Mark, that sets it apart from that of people that happen to share the same base as you. Most of the time the piece added to the Base Mark is related to the meaning of your name, other times it has to do with what you're known for or your interests and hobbies and in very rare cases it has to do with symbolism rather than something direct.

But then came the marks of your Soulmates, all of your Soulmates marks appear on your inner arms right under your own on one of your arms, the marks will either appear on your left or right arm. Soul Marks are often put into three categories, Familial, Platonic, and Romantic and from time to time the marks of your Soulmates marks will be devided up on each arm Familial Marks on one, Platonic and Romantic on the other, othertimes they'll all be on one arm. They might even appear in lines of two to fit all of your marks. No one really knew why, but it happened. But the marks will not always stay the way they appeared, they could rearrange themselfs or even disappear, Soul Marks truly were a mystery unlike any other.

You are born with your Familial marks and when you marry your children's marks will appear on your skin, of course, you won't know when they're gonna come, and gods can always have other plans, there are always uncertainties, you can always lose your child before their birth, and just because you don't have a soul mark for your children after you're married doesn't mean you're never gonna have children they might come one day or you might adopt maybe even foster one. Familial marks have less to do with being related to someone and more to do with who you have a Familial Bond or connection with. If you're the oldest child you'll be born with the marks of your unborn younger siblings alongside your parent's Soul Marks, and they'll be born with yours already on their skin together with your parent's, and if you end up having adoptive, foster or step-siblings later on in life their marks will appear on your skin as well. But just because your family's marks are there when you're born doesn't mean the marks can't disappear if the bond happens to break, most of the time orphans are the ones without Familial Marks, either because their parents died or gave them up, but your Familial Marks can also disappear if you break ties with them, but that doesn't mean that they'll be gone forever either.

This goes for all marks if they appear it doesn't mean that you're forever bound, if you lose touch or the bond breaks then the mark will disappear but if you reconnect or make up the mark will appear once more. And if they die... You'll know...

Platonic and Romantic Soul Marks appear on your skin when you first lay eyes on the person you're bound to. But so can Familial Marks if you aren't blood related to them. Platonic and Romantic Marks are a whole lot less complicated than Familial Marks, easy really.

Platonic Soul Marks

For Romantic Soul Marks it's like this, if fate decides that someone is going to be compatible with you romantically their mark appears on your skin the first time you look at them, it doesn't matter what age you are, their mark will appear on your skin. Of course sometimes that doesn't happen, maybe it's because the first time you saw them the two of you weren't compatible, or maybe it was because the two of you didn't know each other well enough, not that knowing them has any to do with it after all you don't have to know the person for their mark to appear on your skin but fate was a mystery really, truly a curious thing, some people say that it's fate and the gods playing games because they're bored and humans are their toys. Some even belive that fate chooses to bind two people and then the gods have betting pools about which way the relationships will go, others think that the gods and fate just let's it run itself while they watch until the relationship's go too astray and they deside to step in and break the bond. Of course you can have more than one Romantic Soulmate
