Chapter 39: I Kissed Your Girl

Robin

I feel hot tears sting my eyes. Tears of frustration. I toss the dress on the bed as August shoves his hands in his pant pockets and stops walking.

"I don't know what you want me to do—"

I begin snatching the clothes from my closet and toss them behind me. "I can't fit anything anymore. My feet have become swollen. I used to be able to go to the gym, now I can't. God, I can't do anything!"

"I can buy you more clothes—"

I turn around angrily. "Are you implying that I can't make my own money, August?"

He shakes his head. "Never said that, baby."

"Yeah, but you were implying it."

"No, I wasn't."

"Yes, you were!"

August doesn't reply, only stares at me. A glare rests on both of our faces. He steps closer. "Robin, what's wrong?" He says after a moment.

I wipe my eyes aggressively. "I'm scared, August!"

"And you don't think I am?"

Two days ago, I went to the doctor for a checkup. Since the baby will be arriving in less than three months, I've become scared. Every day I try to convince myself Isabella and I are going to make it. But worry and stress creeps its way in, making me believe the same thing that happened to my family is going to happen to me. It was practically traditional, after all.

It happened to my grandmother, her mother, and so on. During this time of their pregnancy, they were diagnosed with leukemia. They ended up passing away after giving birth. My mother got lucky. But it still terrified me that the chances of the same thing happening to me stood a higher chance than it not happening.

I feel tears trying to escape. Pain goes to my stomach, signaling for me to sit down. Feeling as though I am about to explode in frustration, I take a seat on the bed.

"I can't do this." I say.

August removes one of his hands from his pockets and runs it over his face. "I'm freaking here too, Robin. But we have to talk this shit out alright?"

I shake my head. "I don't want to talk right now, August."

"Robin—"

When a tear falls down my cheek, August tries to sit next to me. I move away. "Just go away."

I glance at August, who I find already staring at me. A look of hurt rests on his face. I turn away, not being able to handle it. He sighs and stands up. August kisses the top of my head before he begins walking away.

When he reaches the door, I assume he's going to slam it, but he shuts it lightly behind him. Not even two minutes pass before I start to miss him.

My mood suddenly changes. All I wanted to do was shower him with kisses. I lie my head back on the bed, debating whether or not it is too early to chase after him and apologize. According to my pride, it was far too early.

I decide to push my old ways aside and decide to apologize. Groaning, I grip the headboard to pull myself up. I am nearly exhausted by the time I reach the closet.

I blow a breath and rub my stomach. "Come on, Bella. Work with me here, girl."

The belly bump has gotten so big I can barely see my lower half. For the next ten minutes or so, I clean the room, placing everything back where it belonged neatly. Once I have finished, I step out of the bedroom.

I fidget with the ends of my hair. "I'm sorry for taking my frustration out on you. There I said it. Can we make pizza now—?"

My fingers still on the strand of hair I hold. A knocking or banging sound of some sort starts to approach. I follow the direction of the sound and see it is coming from one of the guest rooms. I frown. We never use the guest rooms.

I immediately bring my hold to the door handle. As soon as it opens, it closes back instantly. "Don't come in, Robin." August says.

My eyebrows narrow. "Why not?"

"I'm doing something and I don't want you to see it."

"What are you talking about?" I try to push it open, but it closes once again. "Is there another woman in there, August?"

He takes a moment to respond. "Uh… yeah. Yeah, there is. So just go away for a second."

I know by the tone of his voice he is lying. But that doesn't stop me from growing angry. I walk in place to make him believe I have walked away before pushing the door open.

I gasp and hold my heart. "Oh my god." I whisper.

August stands up from in front of the door. "Dammit, Robin. It was supposed to be a surprise." He grumbles.

A baby room.

Our baby's room.

He could have left. He could have gotten tired of me and left. Frankly, as furious I would be, I wouldn't blame him. But instead, he has taken his worry, fear and frustration out by decorating a room for the baby.

"It's beautiful." I say in awe.

The walls are painted a light pink, identical to the bear he gave me. A cradle rests on the side of one wall. Her name is carved across the front of it, making it one of the first things visible when you step inside.

Across from the straddle stands a retro pink dresser. A small beige carpet lies underneath it. A photo gallery hangs above it. I smile when I see what he has already added. The first picture is the first picture he took of me. The second is a picture of me sleeping—which I hadn't even known he'd taken. The next is a picture of us smiling, caught off guard. On the side of that, is a picture taken of the baby's sonogram, and our latest picture taken by Kelly; August kissing my belly bump.

I face August after a while of examining it in pure amazement. "You are…" There isn't a correct word that can be used to describe August. All I can do is smile and hope he knows how much this means to me. "I love you. I love you so much, August."

He smiles and shrugs. "A lot of people do, Davis."

I hit his arm, causing his smile to widen. "Asshole." I mumble.

I turn around back to the photos as he steps behind me. August wraps his arms around my stomach and rests his head in the crook of my neck. My body immediately warms at his touch.

"I know how you are about making sure everything is ready for the baby." He says and presses a kiss to my neck softly. I shiver at the feeling.

I trace the veins on his hands. "Thank you."

He kisses my cheek. "Next time talk to me. I'd rather you yell and argue with me than not talk to me and leave me wondering what I can do to make you smile again." He says and pulls away.

I turn back around as he begins walking away. I smile. "I'll try."

As August and I step into the living room, the front door handle starts to move. August grabs a knife out of the kitchen quickly and strides to the door. When I try to follow his actions, he moves me behind him. I hit his back but cooperate.

The door opens slowly. August moves in front of it and points the knife at the person trying to break in. The person screams, causing August and me to scream as well.

We stand screaming at one another until the person lifts the umbrella from over their face. The screaming stops immediately. Instead, my panic is replaced with confusion.

"Kelly?" I ask, opening the door wider.

"What the fuck are you doing?" August chimes in.

She folds her umbrella, revealing her soaked face and damp hair. "I was just trying to get inside!" She replies, walking past August and into the house.

I hit her shoulder. "Well, you scared that shit out of us Kelly!"

August shuts the door behind her. "Did you have to act like a fucking burglar while you did it? You could have knocked like a normal person!"

"A simple knock would have been just fine!"

"How the hell did you even get a—"

Kelly holds her hands out. "Would you both stop yelling at me? I'm gonna cry!"

I exhale a deep breath and try to calm my breathing. August lowers the knife and strides back inside of the kitchen.

"I'm this close to strangling you, Kelly." I mumble and walk to the sofa.

Kelly follows behind me hastily and helps me sit down. She takes a seat next to me once I am seated. "I'm sorry—" she glances at my feet. A frown replaces her regretful expression. "Your feet are swollen."

If I could, I would have glanced at them too. But little Miss. Isabella is blocking my view.

"I know."

"You haven't been wearing heels again, have you?"

I avoid eye contact and nod. "Nope."

Kelly moves her head in front of mine. "You have!"

I push her head away and fold my arms. "Alright, you caught me. But you have to understand how painful it is to wear those awful flats every day. They are just so utterly unfashionable."

Kelly shakes her head and sits back. "It's the doctor's orders, Ms. Davis. If you don't start following them… I'll have to inform her of your lack of cooperation."

My head turns to her quickly as August shuts the refrigerator door. "You wouldn't dare." I whisper.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but this is only for your safety."

I roll my eyes and turn away. "Fine. I won't wear heels until the baby is born."

She smiles and stands up abruptly. "In your face, August! I told you she loved me more!"

August strides out of the kitchen, a cup of tea in his hand. "Bullshit. You're just the best friend. You could never compare to me." He replies.

August hands the cup of tea to me as I chuckle. I smile up at him and he pecks my lips before returning to the kitchen as Kelly's eyebrows narrow.

"I was here before and I'll be here after you're gone."

"I'm not going anywhere. So it looks like you're out of luck, Kels."

Kelly smirks and places a hand on her hip. "I get to work for her."

"I get to marry her." August retorts.

"Oh yeah?" Kelly's smirk grows. "Well, I kissed your girl. How's that make you feel, tough guy?"

I gasp and kick her leg. "That was supposed to be a secret!"

A cup drops in the sink, causing me to jump slightly. He appears in front of us quicker than I can take my next blink.

"What?" He asks. His question is directed at Kelly, but his gaze remains on me.

I gulp. I knew that look. He was furious, with a mixture of jealousy. That excited me for some reason. My eyes travel down the black tank top he wears. It hugs his body, outlining his abs. The gray sweatpants I had bought him a few weeks ago, hang low. All it would take was one tug.

I resist the urge to reach out and touch him. "We were drunk, and it was an accident. She was going in for a cheek kiss but missed."

He only stares at me. His jaw tightens. His tongue goes to the side of the inside of his cheek.

I glance at Kelly through my peripheral vision. She licks her lips. "I bet I did it better than you've ever done."

I kick her again. "Pay cut! You are getting a pay cut, Kelly!"

August's facial expression turns into one I've never seen before. So deeply furious, the look alone could cause someone to fear him. He storms off after staring at me for what felt like eternity.

I scowl at Kelly and she helps me stand up. I can tell she is holding in her laughter as she apologizes. l follow August to our bedroom. As soon as I close the door behind me, he pushes me up against the door and towers over me.

August crashes his lips against mine as if he is a starved man. He kisses me like he's hungry for it, has been craving it. He doesn't give me a chance to catch up, instead only deepens it. When his tongue slides in, I whimper. August trails his hands down my figure slowly until it reaches my ass. His hold remains on it for a second before he lifts my dress.

I gasp, causing him to groan. His hand slides down my bare skin slowly. My breathing begins to grow heavy and heat builds up in my core. When August reaches for my underwear, I grab his hand and break out of the kiss. He only brings his lips to my neck.

"August. Kelly is here." I breathe out.

He doesn't respond, only continues to suck and kiss my neck. My head falls back and I bite back my moan. "August—"

"Robin." He whispers huskily.

"Yeah?"

He lifts his head and presses his forehead against mine. "No one." He starts. August brings my hand to his crotch. I gulp at his semi- erection as his gaze remains locked on mine. "No one kisses you better than me. No one fucks you better than me. No one loves you better than me."

I place my hands on his chest and frown. "I don't like it when you're all arrogant and hot."

He cups my chin. "No one."

I touch his cheek, trying to get his dimple and smile to reappear. "August, it happened before we even met."

He lets go of my chin and turns away. "Don't care."

I roll my eyes and laugh. "Would you please smile or insult me? I can't handle you being serious for this long. Do I have to get on my knees and apologize?"

"Nah." August responds. He begins walking to the door. "I prefer to be the one on my knees in this relationship. You're a queen. You should never get on your knees for anyone."

I smile and follow him out of the room. "And what are you? My knight and shining armor?"

He shrugs. "I'll be whatever the hell you want me to be."

"Well, I want you to be my husband. Do you think you're ready for that title?"

He turns around and finally, he smiles. I bite the side of my cheek. His dimple appears, causing a warm feeling to dwell up inside my stomach. "I'm more than ready for that title."

I step closer and poke his chest. "Then when is it going to happen, Foreman?" I stand up on my tippy-toes and lean closer to his ear. "Or do I have to do it myself?"

He pushes a strand of hair behind my ear. "Real soon, Davis. Real soon."

The front door opens again as Kelly exits the guest bathroom. We all make our way to the living room in confusion.

"Robin! Your secret-lover has arrived!"

I roll my eyes, finding Richy searching for us in the kitchen. "Does anybody know how to knock anymore?" I ask.

"How the hell did you get a key?" Asks August.

Kelly laughs and flops on one of the sofas. August makes his way back to the kitchen. Richy winks at me and skips in the living room. He holds my arm as I take a seat on the sofa across from the television. He sits next to me and places his hand on my thigh. I slap his hand, causing him to yelp and remove it from my thigh.

I push the hair hanging in front of his face back. "How's your mom, Richy?"

He smiles, his eyes lighting up. "She's great. She gave me a hundred bucks for lunch yesterday. For fucking lunch." He says. Richy moves closer and rubs his hands together. "There's something I need your help with, though."

I place my hand on my stomach. "What?"

"There's this girl."

Kelly squeals and rushes over to us. "Richy has a crush!" She flops down on the right side of me and points to his face. "Look at him, he's blushing!"

I smile, seeing him turn away. "Shut up. It's not a crush."

I tap his shoulder. "So tell me about her. Why do you need my help?"

"Her name is Carrie. She's amazing. She's nice and caring. She stands up for herself. She's funny." He chuckles. "And she made me this bracelet thing. It has the letter J on it because both our last names start with a J. She's adorable, Robin. You have to meet her."

My smile widens at how his face lights up when he speaks about her. "And you want to ask her to prom, don't you?"

"I have a plan; I'm going to write it on a purple poster—since that's her favorite color. Then, I'm gonna go to her house. I'll play her favorite song on a boom box and stand outside her window. And if she says yes, I'll give her roses. How's that sound? Is it too much?"

"You guys are absolutely adorable." Kelly replies, holding her heart as her eyes water.

"She's going to love it, Richy." I chime in.

He grins and pats my shoulder. "Don't worry, Robin. You're still my side chick."

I hit his arm and laugh. My laughing stops when I feel a movement in my stomach. I press my hand further against it and gasp when I realize what happened. She kicked.

I laugh harder in disbelief and pull both of their hands to my belly. Their eyes nearly pop out.

"Holy shit." Richy whispers, standing up.

Kelly matches his actions. "August! August! She kicked! Isabella kicked!"

August rushes over immediately. They hover over me as I smile. "It only happens when she laughs." Says Richy.

"Laugh, gorgeous."

They all place a hand on my stomach. I frown. "I can't just laugh out of nowhere."

August nudges Richy's shoulder. "Fartlek."

A laugh escapes my lips. I don't know why, but that word just always cracks me up.

"Works every time."

The baby kicks again, making all of their mouths go agape as if something new has been discovered. "She kicked! I felt her kick!"

"Me too!" Replies Richy.

They let go of my stomach and begin jumping around, shouting nonsense as they hit each other.

August's phone that sits on the table rings. I pick it up as they continue. "Hello?"

"Robin?" the person asks. After a few moments, I realize it is August's mom. We've never met before. We talk occasionally when they talk to each other.

I smile. "Hello Ms. Foreman, would you like me to give August the phone?"

"I am calling to speak to you, actually."

I frown. "Is something wrong?"

"Of course not! Gina and I just think you should get out of the house tomorrow."

"Why?" I ask, suspicious of her behavior.

"No reason. We'll pick you up tomorrow. Alright, bye now!" She replies and hangs up before I have a chance to respond.
