Chapter 35: I'm Fine
Robin
Sex.
So much sex.
August and I have been having so much of it, I can hardly feel my legs anymore. I'm not complaining about it. I love it. But I know something is wrong. I can feel it.
I wouldn't call myself psychic—although I'm pretty close to it—but I can always tell when something is wrong with someone.
The first three weeks after leaving the hospital and moving in with August were a total catastrophe. Some of my belongings got mixed up with another person during the moving process. My sister needs a place to stay, and not to mention the whole shooting situation.
Somehow, my face ended up on the news with a headline titled:
"August Foreman's girlfriend has been reportedly shot. Suspect is identified to be Henry Milton."
While I was flattered to be on television, August wasn't. He ranted about having no privacy as he paced in front of the dining room table. A day later, he went to his coach about it. When I checked the internet that night, all the pictures of me were removed.
For the rest of my time healing, we were normal. But as soon as I told August the doctor said I was healed, he had his way with me. And for the last two weeks, we've been going at it non-stop.
Completely exhausted, I shake my head as August prepares to ram back inside of me. "August." I manage to breathe out, panting heavily.
He removes my breast from his mouth and he meets my gaze slowly. He stares at me with hooded eyes that make me shiver.
"Yeah?" He says deeply. Lust remains in his eyes.
I hold his face in my hands and stare at him worriedly. "What's wrong?"
August gets out of my hold and dips his head back down. He begins kissing my neck and ear. "Nothing." He grumbles against my skin.
Despite the wave of pleasure that washes over me, I place my hands on his chest and push him back a bit. "Something is wrong. We've been going at it like rabbits for two weeks. I love it, but I physically cannot take so much of it."
He frowns. "What's wrong with taking care of my girl?"
"August." I bring my hold back to his face. "Is it about the miscarriage?"
He doesn't answer, only looks away. I touch his cheek with my thumb. "Are you trying to get me-"
His phone rings. It fucking rings at a time like this and, of course, that's when he decides to answer it. It had rung about ten times since we started this morning and up until now, he wasn't bothered by it.
August sighs and kisses my cheek before getting off of the bed. I cover myself with the sheet as he starts to put his clothes on. He answers the phone, making me sit up in curiosity.
"What's up?" He says.
I am not able to hear what the person replies, but whatever they say makes him turn to me. I frown. 'Who is it?' I mouth to him.
He places his hand over the phone. "Coach. He wants to know if we'll make it to his birthday party tonight." He whispers.
"It's his birthday?"
"Yeah, but I'm not going if you don't want to."
August returns to the phone as I pick up my phone from the nightstand. I check my calendar and see I am free tonight. I nod to him and he smiles. He tells his coach will be there and ends the call.
When August walks to the closet and begins looking for his outfit tonight, I know we won't revisit our conversation before his phone call. I exhale a deep breath and hop off of the bed. I decide to drop it just for tonight.
After I shower, August hops in after me. As he is in the shower, I clean the house and manage to do my hair and makeup before I get a phone call from Jennifer.
"Hey, Jen." I say, scanning through my dresses.
"Hey, Laurie! I have a question to ask and don't say no, okay?"
The bathroom door opens and August steps out, steam following behind him. He wears a gray tuxedo. It fit him perfectly, making him look ten times more attractive. A white button-down shirt sits underneath his tuxedo jacket. I bite my lip, trying my hardest not to give into the temptation of just staying home. When my eyes finally meet his, I roll my eyes. A smug grin rests on his face.
"Like what you see?" He asks, walking to the nightstand.
"Barely." I lie as he grabs his watch.
"Who's that?" Jennifer asks.
I smile. "It's August. Do you want to talk to him?"
His head shoots up, and he brings his attention to my phone. "Is that Jennifer?"
"Robin, no! Do not put him on the phone! You know what he's going to-"
I toss the phone to August and he catches it. He takes his tuxedo jacket off and sits in front of the bed. He presses his feet against the bed frame and faces me with a smile as Laurie continues to yell. August pushes the bed, making the headboard hit the wall loudly as he claps his hands over the phone.
"Oh, fuck! More! Give me more!" He shouts.
My head falls back and I laugh at his immatureness as Jennifer gags. "I knew you were going to do that! Gosh, you are so immature!"
August stands up, holding his stomach in laughter as I shake my head and return to my dresses. "Come on, kid! Don't be like that!"
"Do you enjoy making me comfortable? Do you really think I want to imagine my sister and you—oh god, I can't even say it."
"As a matter of fact, yes. Whenever you call, my only purpose is to make you uncomfortable."
"You're an asshole. Wow, you really picked a good one, Robin."
I turn around and snatch the phone from August. "Hey, I'm the only one that can call him an asshole, you hear me?"
"Yeah, yeah. Can you take me apartment shopping tomorrow? Come on, Laurie, please don't say no. I've got no one else."
I shake my head as I feel August come up behind me. "No. Hell no. Last week I took, and I had to wait an hour for you to come out of one apartment."
"Laurie, please! I promise I won't take long this time. I promise!"
August rubs my shoulders and kisses my neck. My body instantly warms up. I close my eyes at how good it feels. "You like when I kiss your neck, baby?" He whispers.
"Yes." I say louder than I mean to.
Jennifer squeals. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're like the best sister, I swear! I'll see you tomorrow!" She shouts and before I have a chance to say anything further, she hangs up.
A glare forms on my face. I turn around and hit his arm. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?"
He smiles and drops his arms from my shoulders. "Oops."
"Dipshit." I mutter and turn back around to the dresses.
He squeezes my hip dips before he walks away. "Hurry up, gorgeous. I don't want to be late."
I roll my eyes at him for ordering me around, but I listen. I pick up a dark red dress from the rack and walk to the mirror. August returns as I start to put it on. He leans against the door threshold. His sleeves rolled up, the watch shining on his wrist as he watches me intently.
When it's on, I face him. His eyes run down my body. He places his hands in his pants and adjusts himself as we remain in eye contact. It causes my face to flush. I look away and distract myself by trying to zip up the back of my dress.
Seeing me struggle, August saunters over to me. He places his hands on my waist and trails them down to my ass slowly. His breath on my neck, he pulls the zipper up. Once he is done, August reaches for something in his pants pocket.
I gasp when he reveals a necklace. "I got you something the other day. Saw it while shopping for coach's birthday gift. Thought you might like it."
He places the necklace on my neck cautiously. My mouth goes agape. It is a ruby infinity heart pendant with diamonds surrounding it. The exact same necklace that I told him I was saving up to buy. I wanted it so much, I memorized the name and exact jewelry store to buy it from.
As he connects it together, I touch it in complete shock and happiness. "August… Do you know how much this cost? It had to be at least-"
"I don't care how much it costs. You wanted it. That's all that matters."
I've never been so amazed. I turn around and kiss him. He stumbles back, surprised, but it doesn't take him long to kiss me back. I stand on my tippy toes to kiss him deeper. This makes him groan and pull me closer. After a moment, I break away, breathing heavily.
"Thank you. It's beautiful." I whisper.
August moves a strand of my loose hair behind my ear. "You're welcome, my love."
His phone rings again, reminding us to leave. I put my heels on quickly and sling my purse over my shoulder as he answers the phone. August grabs his jacket and we rush to his car. He speaks to his publicist on the phone the whole drive.
We arrive at a popular hotel, 'Ruleta'. August tells the receptionist why we're here and she leads up to a ballroom. There are at least three hundred people. They all dress in long gowns, which doesn't make me feel that left out.
August introduces me to his coach, teammates and more people I can't remember. After a while, my feet start to hurt and I grow tired. I excuse myself from the conversation August is having and begin walking to the bar. August jogs up behind me, kisses my cheek and whispers, 'I love you' before returning to his friends.
I take a seat at one of the stools near the far end. The waiter offers a tray of peanuts and a glass of water. I accept it. As soon as I finish the first one, I grow nauseous. I hum and take a sip of water. The feeling vanishes, instead being replaced with a weird craving of jelly.
I glance around for August and pause when I spot a woman glaring at me from across the room. I match her glare and stare back until she looks away, only to bring her attention to August.
As if sensing my anger building up, August's head lifts and his eyes meet mine. He saunters over to me, a grin on his face as his hands rest in his pants pockets. I eyeball her as he reaches me.
"Hey, gorgeous." He says. "How are you? Feeling okay?"
I take a sip of water. "I'm fine."
He takes a seat next to me. I can feel his eyes on me as my glare grows. After about a minute, he cups my face and turns my head, preventing me from looking away.
He brushes his lips against mine. "I know when something is bothering you, Robin." He whispers.
A shiver goes down my spine and heat builds up in my stomach. I get out of his hold and stand up. I place my purse over my shoulder and walk away. August follows behind.
"As I said before, I am fine."
He chuckles, a deep sound that makes my heart rate speed up. "Yes you are."
I glance back at August and see he is trailing behind. Rolling my eyes, I stop. I glance back at him again. A smile rests on his face as he licks his lips.
"Don't stop walking because of me, baby. I can catch up. I just enjoy watching you walk. And talk. And laugh. Basically, every fucking thing you do."
I turn away to hide my blush. I still can't believe he can make me blush like this. As I am about to walk away, August appears behind me. He wraps his arms around my waist and kisses my neck. "You gonna tell me what's wrong or do I have to fuck it out of you?" He whispers.
I glance at one of the many women who have been staring at August all night. "She's staring at you." I mumble as August trails his mouth down the side of my neck.
"Which one?" He asks against my skin.
I bite my lip when he places a kiss behind my ear. My breathing starts to get heavy. "The one in the blue dress. It doesn't matter though. Nearly everyone is staring at you-"
"Does it matter to you?"
"Yeah, but-"
"Then it fuckin' matters." August turns me around and moves his hands down further until they touch my ass. He leans down a bit. "Is she still watching?"
I glance at the woman and find her watching us. She rolls her eyes when she spots me staring at her, and I resist the urge to scold her. I turn back to August.
"Yes."
He smiles. "I love you."
"I love-"
Before I have a chance to finish my sentence, August crashes his lips against mine. He pulls me closer as he kisses me deeply. He doesn't allow me a chance to catch up, instead he continues to kiss me with no remorse. After a while, he pulls away, leaving me breathless.
August returns to his friends and after about ten minutes, he asks if I want to leave. I nod and he smiles, placing his arm underneath mine. We make it home after that shortly. August tells me he's going to put on a show for us to watch as I rush to the bathroom.
As soon as I lean over the toilet, vomit escapes my lips. Luckily, August doesn't hear. When I finish, I lean against the sink in deep thought. It doesn't take long for me to figure out what I have to do.
I grab my phone out of my purse and dial Kelly's number. Despite how late it is, she answers on the first ring.
"Hi, Ms. Davis. What can I do for you?"
"Reschedule my meeting tomorrow to Wednesday."
"Yes ma'am. What would you like me to replace it with?"
"A doctor's appointment for me."
