Chapter 27: A Little Talk

August

I slam the gun on the desk. "You expect me to let this fucker get away with fucking with her? Are you serious?"

Coach runs a hand through his hair as my jaw tightens, waiting for his response. "If the press finds out you got involved in anything remotely violent, your career will go down the drain and it's barely just begun."

I let go of the gun and shake my head. As I begin pacing in his office, rage pulses through my veins. "You know what the problem is about that, Coach?"

"What?"

"I don't care. As long as he suffers, I don't care."

"August, I need you to promise you won't do something stupid."

My anger increases and I turn to him. "What? He pointed a knife at her! He made her think she was weak for not doing anything in return! So, you want me to sit here and let him go do it to someone else? That's bullshit, man!"

"Promise me, August." He says, despite the words coming out of my mouth.

I shake my head and pick up a gun from the desk. "Not promising shit," I mumble, walking out of his office.

I hear his footsteps follow behind me shortly after. "Where are you going? There's practice in an hour!"

I continue walking. "More than enough time," I reply, leaving the building.

I quickly arrive at the coffee shop, as it wasn't far. As soon as I step inside, I walk to the counter. The barista smiles. "How may I help you today?"

"Where the fuck is Henry?"

"Henry? He's in the back room at the moment, would you like me to-"

I begin walking to what I believe is the backroom.

"Sir, you can't go back there. I—oh fuck it. I don't get paid enough for this." She mumbles as I open the door.

I grin and clap my hands slowly, spotting the son of a bitch. "Henry. Fucking. Milton." I say, making him turn around hastily.

He drops the coffee filters he is holding and gulps. "You can't be back here." He mutters, avoiding eye contact with me.

I crack my knuckles as his forehead begins to sweat and I step closer. There wasn't much space, but it was more than enough to work with. If I couldn't kill him, I at least needed to see some blood on him.

I smile. "What happened to mister tough guy, Henry?" I hold my heart in pretend shock. "Wait a minute—are you—are you scared?"

He backs up. "For whatever reason, you're here, I-"

"You know exactly why I'm here, you son of a bitch."

I immediately grow tired of talking. As he is about to speak, I remove the gun from my pants pocket and hit his temple with it. He groans and falls to the ground.

"Fuck." He grumbles, holding his head as he rocks side to side on the floor.

I stand over him, a grin resting on my face. "What is it? Does it get you going? Do you get off from treating women like shit?" I ask and slap his face with the gun.

"What the fuck is your problem!" He shouts, trying to cover his face.

"You're my fucking problem."

My blood boils. I punch his throat. His eyes widen and he begins coughing. His pain only gives me adrenaline. I punch his jaw. Then I use both fists, punching his ribs as blood oozes out of his mouth. I don't stop jabbing him until his mouth is covered in blood, a black eye rests on his face, and he is crying as he coughs loudly.

I stand up all the way and kick his side. "You come near Robin again and I swear to God you won't make it out of here alive."

"Go to hell!"

I kick him again. "Come on, Henry, you've got to be a little more original than that."

Walking to the door, I aim the gun at him. "Stay the fuck away from her, you understand me?"

He coughs up blood as he replies, "Gladly."

With that said, I leave the room. As I walk towards the coffee shop's door, the barista stares at me with a fearful expression. I shove the gun in my pocket and face her.

"You didn't see or hear shit, got that?"

She nods hastily. "Yup."

After one last glance, I stride out of the coffee shop. As soon as I get in the car and start driving, I call Robin. She answers on the first ring.

"I'm busy, August. You have to call back." She says. I hear her heels clicking against the ground and her employees shouting 'meeting' in the background as I turn down the street.

I smile. "Your bossiness is one of my favorite things about you."

"Really?" she responds, her voice rising.

"You're fuckin' adorable, Robin."

I just know she is rolling her eyes as her face reddens.

"Stop saying nice things to me before I knee your balls."

I shake my head and laugh. "Have you eaten today, gorgeous?"

"Not yet. I'll probably grab a snack after work."

"I'm bringing you lunch."

"August, I don't need you to do that-"

"I'm bringing you something to eat and for this one time you're not going to fight me on it, all right?"

I wait for her to reply as I arrive at Burger King. "Fine." She finally says.

"Good girl. I'll see you tonight, yeah?"

"Maybe."

"Don't play with me right now, woman."

"Okay, okay, I'll see you tonight. I have to go."

"Wait, wait, one more thing!"

"What do you want?"

I clap my hands loudly above the phone. "Oh, fuck! August! Harder! Just like-"

"You are so immature." She mutters and hangs up before I can continue my fake sex sounds.

I laugh, taking a hundred-dollar bill out of my wallet. I order her favorites here; A grilled chicken sandwich, an Oreo cookie cheesecake, chicken fries, and a diet Pepsi. Once I have paid for it, letting them keep the change, I collect her lunch and drive away.

Soon I arrive at Davis and Co. When I reach her office, her assistant takes me to a conference room where she hosts a meeting. I smile and knock on the glass door before entering. Her employees face me in confusion as Robin pauses the presentation she has on the screen.

"Ms. Davis, would you like to escort this man out?" A woman standing on the side of her asks.

"August Foreman?" Another woman asks, smiling widely.

I turn to her. "Yeah, how'd you know?"

"You hit the game-winner yesterday! I'm a new fan, man!"

I smile in achievement. "Thanks. That means a lot."

I walk to Robin, my back turned to the men and women seated. I peck her lips as I hand her the bag. She accepts it and hands it to her assistant, ordering her to take it to her office. When Robin faces me, she pushes the hair hovering over my eyes back. "Thank you." She says.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever."

Robin kisses me again before turning back to the screen. "If you ever interrupt my meeting again, I'm not making you those disgusting pumpkin cookies you like." She responds as I make my way back to the door.

I turn around immediately at that threat. "You little shit."

She smiles, "Sorry, not sorry."

"He brought you lunch! How sweet! You guys make a lovely couple!" The woman standing on the side of her says.

Robin's smile drops and I become uncomfortable. I nod to her as a goodbye before exiting the conference room. Once I am in the car, I receive a message from Coach informing me of how late I am to practice. I tell him I'm on my way and shortly after, I arrive. I change into my uniform and go to the basketball court.

"Where were you?" He asks. I shoot the ball.

I shrug as it swishes inside of the net. "Visited my girl and went to the coffee shop."

"And what'd you do at the coffee shop?"

I smile. "Just had a little talk with somebody."
