Chapter 25: Blushing

Robin

They stare at each other intently, neither of them blinking. A smug grin rests on August's face as a glare rests on Henry's.

"Henry. Fucking. Milton." August says, his grin growing wider.

This was the thing I had been trying to prevent from happening ever since Henry and I started dating. Now they're having a stare off as we wait for the doctor to return with results about Richy.

When August first called me about what happened, I rushed over. I was with Henry, so I begged him to take me to the hospital. He complained the whole way over as I panicked in the backseat. Thankfully, when we arrived, the doctor said Richy would make it and after the surgery they would let us know the rest.

Up until five minutes ago, I had managed to not let them be around each other.

"August." Henry retorts.

"So you're my girl's boyfriend, right?"

"She's not your girl. She's my girlfriend." Henry turns to me as if I'm the one who said it.

August smirks. "Sure."

"And what the hell is that supposed to mean?"

August points to my stomach. "That's how far my dick was inside of her." He replies, and my mouth goes agape in pure shock.

I swat his hand away. "August!"

He moves in front of me. "Is it not true?" He asks, staring down at me.

I look up at him with a glare. "You're a goddamn asshole."

"I think you're too close to my girlfriend."

August matches my glare and rubs his thumb over my bottom lip. He leans closer, our lips inches apart. "Tell your boy to shut up before I break his jaw, okay, gorgeous?" He says and walks away.

I watch his back as he turns down the hospital hallway. It isn't until Henry scoffs that makes me bring my attention back to him.

"Look, Henry, I'm sorry about-"

"So it seems like the whole city has gotten a taste of you."

My head jerks back slightly in surprise. "What?"

"What the fuck, Robin? You're a whore. Seriously, am I just a game to you?"

My vein pulses and I clench my fists as I step in front of him. "What did you just call me?"

"How many men have you slept with, Robin?" He asks, moving his blonde hair to the side as my anger increases.

"I don't understand why that should matter to you."

He shakes his head. "I'm in a relationship with a slut."

"Three." I say, and his expression changes. "And you know who the best one was? August."

"God, you're such a bi-"

I gulp to avoid the tears that were trying to escape at his words. "And he was so good. We fucked raw everyday and everywhere. Oh god, Henry, he was so amazing. He hit every sp-"

Henry raises his hand to hit me, making me cut myself off. Tears sit at the corner of my eyes. I was feeling the same way I felt throughout my previous relationships. Weak, helpless, angry, useless.

I had built myself into a strong independent woman over the years and it was like Henry was tearing it all down. The opposite of what August makes me feel like. He challenges me, keeps me on my toes, and makes me know my worth. Our bickering, arguing, insulting fuels me up. It's like medicine. Whenever we're not going at each other's throats, I start to feel weak again.

I back up as his face falls. "Were you about to hit me?"

He steps forward and I continue backing up. "Robin-"

"You stare at other women in front of me, take other women to lunch. You're selfish, entitled, manipulative and so many other things. Yet when I reciprocate the same actions, you treat me like pure shit."

"I'm sorry, Robin. Geez, I'm not good at anything. I'm such a bad boyfriend, baby. I'm so sorry." He replies, holding my shoulders.

When I am about to reply, August walks back inside, holding two cups of coffee. I get out of Henry's hold, wipe my eyes, and take a seat in a chair away from him. I clear my throat as August sits next to me.

He hands a cup to me. "Four creamers, three sugars, just how you like it-" his eyebrows furrow and he cups my face. August stares into my eyes, searching for something. "Have you been crying?"

He turns to Henry and immediately stands up. "I'm gonna fucking kill you." He mutters.

I hold his arm. "Sit down, August."

He glances between me and Henry before sitting back down slowly. Henry walks off to the restroom as I take a sip of coffee.

"Thank you." I say. "You know, for the coffee."

He smiles and hangs his arm over the back of my seat. "Whatever. I know you need it in order to act halfway human."

I hit his leg. "Dipshit."

"Fuck-face."

I face him. "Do you ever get tired of being so utterly stupid?"

"You cried off of a Disney movie."

I point my index finger at him. "That's low, August. I told you not to speak of that again."

"How many phone calls do you get a day from anyone that is not business related?"

Two. And that's on a lucky day

I look away and roll my eyes. "You fell off of a treadmill before, so shut up."

"You hate me because of that same treadmill, so you can shut your pretty mouth as well."

I turn back to him and shake my head as a smile appears on his face. "No. I don't hate you simply because of a silly treadmill. That day I had found out my cheating ex boyfriend was getting married. To add onto that, I had lost a lot of clients because of some stupid rumor. Then you just walk in like you own the place."

"So you're saying you hate me because we met in a shitty way?"

"I guess you could say that."

August smirks and wraps a strand of my hair over his finger. "If I had shown up on a different day, and wasn't such an ass, would you have let me take you on a date?"

I blush like a pre-teen talking to her crush. If one thing was for sure, August is the only one who can make me this flustered.

He tilts my chin up, making us stare into each other's eyes. "Answer the question, gorgeous."

I smile softly and nod. "Yeah, I would've."

He smiles widely at that, dimples appearing on the side of his face. I notice his cheeks redden slightly and laugh. "You're blushing, dufus." I say.

He lets my chin go and turns away. "No I'm not." He mumbles.

Henry returns just as the doctor strides towards us. He tells us how well the surgery went and how healthy he is. When we think Richy is okay, the doctor tells August Richy needs to learn how to walk again. My heart shatters at that, and August walks out of the hospital without a word.

While he is gone, I check up on Richy and his mom. We introduce ourselves to one another and exchange phone numbers. By the time we finish talking, August is waiting at the door. He hugs Ms. Jefferson and after saying goodbye to a sleeping Richy, we all leave the hospital.

For the next two weeks, August tries to bribe Richard into letting us help him along with physical therapy. Whilst he does this, I set up a room for him at my job. I fire the person whose office is next door to mine and make that Richy's training room.

I design it to his liking, remembering everything August told me about him. I also add the right equipment for him, a snack table and calendar to track his progress.

My phone rings as I finish the last invitation card for Damien and Marie's wedding. I answer it when I notice it is August. "Any luck?" I ask hopefully.

"I'm outside of Davis and Co. I told him I was taking him to practice with me. Everything is ready, right?"

I scramble up the keys to the room quickly and rush out of my chair. "Yep!"

"Good girl." He replies and hangs up. I smile. There isn't a particular reason, I just do.

I unlock the door and stand in the middle of the room happily. A minute later, August rolls Richy in on his wheelchair. I clap and smile widely at Richy as he rolls his eyes.

"Surprise!"

"No. How many times do I have to tell you guys I don't need your help?"

I frown, "Come on, Richy, please! Don't you want to start playing sports again?"

He stares at me for a moment before glancing around the room. He points to the snack table. "That's for me?"

"Mm-hmm!" I reply as August fidgets with his fingers and I bite the inside of my cheek.

Richy smiles and shakes his head. "Fine, but I'm not using those walkers. Those are for old people."
