Chapter 12: Red Pumps
Robin
I roll my eyes as August turns his music up louder. I am so glad I only have two more days left to share this room with this idiot. Between the excessive farting, loud music, horrible singing and clothing scattered loosely around, I was going crazy.
"Why must you always play it so loud?"
He continues dancing in front of the mirror as he admires himself. "Shut it, Davis."
I roll my eyes again and turn my attention back to my laptop. I have been doing emotional online shopping since I woke up this morning, which has led me to be annoyed with everything and everyone because of my failure to handle my problems the right way.
Marie and Damien were supposed to come to our room so we could all leave at the same time. Marie had planned the rest of the time we had left on this trip. I tried to bribe her out of it, but she insisted on keeping it a surprise.
I look up from the laptop and frown, seeing August do an unfamiliar dance. I twirl my finger at his dance. "What's that? Is it a new one? I've never seen it before."
He stops as, 'This is how we do it.' comes on. I practically knew every word of this song, due to August playing it about every hour. Not to mention how much he plays it at the gym.
"You don't know the Dougie?" He asks, as if I have just asked the dumbest question.
"Obviously not."
"Loser." He scoffs and turns the song up louder. "Get up, I'll show you."
Absolutely not.
I laugh at his buffoonery. I don't dance. It's probably one of the few things I'm not good at.
"Oh no, I am not learning that. I don't dance, I have far more important things to do with my spare time."
"Right because looking at pink blouses online is very important."
I shut my laptop and get off the bed frustratingly. I stand on the side of him and take off my suit jacket. "Show me the stupid dance."
He smiles and faces me. "It's simple, really. Just move your arms like this."
August stands straight and moves his arms the same way he did before when he was dancing. I try to copy his movements but glance at myself in the mirror and stop.
"I look stupid."
He pats my shoulder. "It's a good thing you always do. Now try again."
I keep moving my arms in the way he is doing it and once I finally get it right, he replays the song. August gestures for me to open my legs slightly and I do so. He teaches me how to stand and, after kicking my leg countless times and small wrestling matches between one another, I get it right.
He smiles, "Now put it all together."
You got this, Robin.
I take a deep breath before putting the movements all together. I smile, seeing myself do the dance in the mirror.
"Show some more energy!" He says, and I pick up my pace and try to move more smoothly.
I laugh, "I'm doing it, I'm doing it!"
I start to feel more excited by the lyrics, 'South Central does it like nobody does.'
"Atta girl!" August shouts, as I get more excited.
"I'm doing the mother fucking Dougie bitches!" I shout, feeling liberated.
August laughs and I stop. My old highschool friend taught me this dance, and it's been my favorite ever since. The cabbage patch.
I begin doing the cabbage patch and August cheers and starts jumping up and down. "Oh shit!"
Completely hyped, I add my own moves as August continues jumping and cheering.
I stop again and do another one of my favorites. I grin at him and do the arm wave. Adding a little foot movement as well.
He pumps his fist, "Go Davis! Go Davis! Go Davis! Go D-"
He stops suddenly, but I keep dancing. "Why'd you stop? I'm about to do a cartwheel."
My back turned. He taps my arm as I pull my pants up to get ready. "Robin." He whispers.
I shake my head and crack my neck. I will ace this cartwheel. "No. I'm not Robin any more. I'm Davis the Dougie Legend."
I step backwards, but bump into someone. Turning around in annoyance, I freeze, seeing Marie and Damien.
She smiles, "Nice moves, girl."
I move away and clear my throat as I straighten out my suit. "Hey um Marie and Damien. Didn't hear you guys come in."
"It's all good." Damien chuckles.
I hit August's arm, "Why didn't you tell me they were here, jerk!"
"I tried to, but you were all-" he copies my dance moves and I roll my eyes.
"I don't look like that." I mumble, walking to the closest to grab my heels. Once I put them on, I walk out of the door, embarrassed but trying to hide it. I turn around and place my hand on my hip in annoyance.
"Are you idiots just going to stand there or are we going to leave?"
They walk out of the room quickly, and I lock the door behind August. He smiles, "What happened to 'Davis the Dougie legend'?"
I begin walking to the elevator as follows behind with that stupid grin and his hands in his pants pockets. "That was a moment of weakness. Robin, kick your balls has returned, so just leave me alone all right."
He laughs as we all step into the elevator and Damien presses the button. "Are you seriously mad because you had fun?"
I crossed my arms, "It wasn't useful and made my suit all wrinkled."
He shakes his head and turns away from me. "Wow."
I frown up at him as he stares at the elevator doors. "Oh, would you just shut the hell up! I'm not mad about having fun. You're not right, dammit!"
Gosh, I hated when he was right. He always wore that stupid grin whenever he was and acted as if he was the smartest man in the world. Which he was far from.
He continues grinning as he nods, "Whatever helps you sleep at night."
Marie turns to us. "What were the rules guys? Do I have to go over th-"
"No." We reply in sync and she smiles as a response.
Once we reached the lobby, we all got off. Marie tells us the first place we're going is to get breakfast. After some bickering, we agreed to just go to a restaurant in the hotel.
Marie and I sit across from each other and talk, and Damien and August do the same thing. She rushes us until we're all done.
The first place we go to is a skating rink against my own will. Marie and Damien skate where all the couples are, leaving August and me with the single people.
I try to skate to August to try to trip him but fail tremendously, falling down with a thud. Holding my ass, I look around to see if anyone has seen me and sure enough, August stands leaning against the rail laughing.
I hold my middle finger up at him as I get back up. "Funny. Just hilarious. Glad you find my pain humourous."
"Even Humpty Dumpty didn't look that damn pathetic."
"Kiss my ass, Foreman!"
He follows behind laughing, "You mean the same ass that you just busted? I'm good."
I glance in Marie and Damien's direction before elbowing August's stomach, making him fall.
He grunts as I turn around with a smile. Holding his stomach, he holds up his thumb, "Props for not going for my balls this time."
I shrug. "It wasn't in my reach. Don't worry, I'll be sure to do it next time darling." I say and skate away grinning.
He's like a pinata I can keep hitting that never pops.
After having enough of skating, Marie makes us go sightseeing. We check out some of Los Angeles' finest sights. When we walk by a store, Marie points to a dress she likes and Damien makes as all go inside. I pull out my phone to check some of my emails from my clients.
Walking slowly around the store, I glance up slightly and screech loudly, seeing August standing behind a mannequin. I hold my racing heart and hit him as he begins laughing hysterically.
"Why the hell would you do that!"
He holds his stomach and comes behind the mannequin. "Fuck." He groans from laughing too much.
His phone appears and my mouth goes agape, "You recorded me?"
He pats my shoulder. "Baby, the amount of pathetic-ness I have of you saved in my phone is fucking hilarious."
He's not worth it, he's not worth it, he's not w-
I take my heel off of my right foot, "You've got five seconds to run before I shove this heel so far up your ass you won't sit down for a week."
He runs off and I stride after him angrily. When I start to get closer, he runs behind Marie who is standing at the door.
"Help me, she's got the red pump, Marie. The red pump!"
Marie leaves the store and August follows behind as I chase after him until we reach a restaurant. I chose to get my revenge back later, as I was extremely hungry and my stomach was far more important than August.
After we all sit at a table and order, Marie sits back in her chair with a wide smile.
I lean forward, "What? You're doing that weird thing with your eyebrow when you're planning something."
"We should do something fun."
"Don't say fun too loud. You know Robin doesn't like that word." August replies, taking a sip of water.
I face him, "Suck my dick."
"You don't have a dick, loser. "
I point to my mouth, "Listen closely. " I lean forward. "Suck. My. Dick."
"Like a club, you know? Let that be our last little fun night, I guess."
Damien puts his napkin down and sits back, "Well I'm down."
"Me too." August says
They all turn to me, waiting for an answer, and I gulp. I was never good at clubs.
They continue to stare and Marie gives me her puppy dog eyes.
Shit.
"What about you, Robin?"
This is such a bad idea. I'm about to make a horrible mistake. But one club night wouldn't hurt, right? I haven't been to a club in three years. Hey, it's for Marie and Damien, anyway.
"Fine. You all make me sick." I say, taking a sip of water as they all cheer in response.
I already regret it.
