Mean's POV
My heart was racing so fast in my anger and disgust at Kimmon. One of my biggest peeves is infidelity to a committed relationship. In my opinion infidelity smacks of lack of character, lack of integrity, basically it smacks of dishonesty.
My only problem was Kimmon was my client. He was the one who bought the Wood Flame Pizza franchise. It would not do to get involved in his personal problems. I had to keep our interaction on a purely business level. But still I had to find a way to help Plan who was in such distress that he had decided to leave Kimmon.
Before I even started my car, I turned to Plan and said, "I think it would be best to call Kimmon."
"No, no, no!" Plan cried. "I don't wanna do that! I'm so upset with him that I don't even wanna hear his voice."
"How about I call him to let him know that you have decided to cool off by staying with me for the night?" I suggested.
Plan took a few seconds to think about my suggestion.
"I guess you can do that," he said, sounding a bit reluctant. "But if he insists on coming to pick me up, tell him I am not going back to him."
"Do you want me to call right now, or do you want to wait until we get to my condo?" I asked.
"Let's wait until we get to your condo," Plan replied. "I would feel safer and more relaxed there."
"Let's go then," I said, turning the ignition on.
I had just eased my foot off the brake pedal when Plan's phone started to ring and I heard Plan gasp.
I could tell that it was Kimmon calling him because it was not a generic ring tone.
"How many times has he called you since you left him?" I asked.
"I haven't really counted but this could be the twelfth time," Plan replied.
He must be that desperate to locate Plan, I thought. But then again, really, serves him right for being unfaithful to his partner. Let him stew for a while and reflect on his transgression of commitment to his partner.
When the call was directed to voicemail we heard a message notification. Plan refused to even listen to the voicemail message.
I was already exiting from the mall premises when Plan's phone sounded a text notification.
"How many text messages has he sent you since you left him?" I asked.
"This is his first time to leave a text message," Plan said. "I'm not sure if I should even read it."
"If you're not gonna listen to his voicemail messages, then maybe at least read his text message which you said is his first time to send," I suggested to Plan.
From my peripheral vision, because I was concentrating on the traffic ahead of me, I saw Plan tap on his phone screen. And then I heard him gasp again.
He did not wait for me to ask him what the text message was. He volunteered the information to me.
"He said that since I am not responding to his calls and messages, he is going to assume that I am in danger and so he is going to report me as a missing person to the police department," Plan said, his voice quivering.
"I will call him when we get to my condo," I told Plan. "Don't sweat over his latest message now."
With my eyes still on the road, I extended my hand to my side to give Plan a reassuring pat on his thigh.
Once more I heard him gasp.
"Did he send another text?" I asked. "I didn't hear a text notification though."
"No he didn't," he replied, his voice sounding tight.
I took a quick glance at him before turning my eyes back on the road.
He was blushing a deep red. Oh shoot, did my hand go to where it should not have gone?
