Chapter 18
Baji tucked his phone back into his pocket after checking the time. It was shortly after ten.
They still had at least an hour but that hour was bound to move quickly, just as the last four had.
"I don't want to go back to that place," Aiko moaned.
She had been laying in the crook of Baji's arm watching the sky and telling the most mundane stories about her time at Tateyami's. Baji listened, laughing or making random comments, although Aiko couldn't be too sure if he wasn't simply distracted by the exploits of his hand as it gently roamed the skin of her body through her unbuttoned shirt, one of the feats it had achieved.
"Do you wanna come and stay with me?" he asked.
"Really?"
"Well, you'll have to spend a lot of time under my bed, because I don't think my mom will agree, but she's out a lot, so ... it might be nice. I will be getting a cat though."
"I don't like cats," she moaned.
"I know, but I don't get how you don't like cats. You like cute things, right? Cats are cute and cuddly."
"They make me sneeze, and they stare which can be creepy."
"Aiko," he said in a matter-of-fact voice. "We're going to have a cat, okay?"
"When you say we're," Aiko asked slowly, "Do you mean when I'm living under your bed, or as in we're going to be living together at some point in the future."
Baji shrugged. "Either ... or both. Whatever you prefer."
Aiko bit down on her lip to hold back her smile. "I guess living under your bed might be a whole lot better than living at Tateyami's."
Baji rolled onto his side to snuggle in closer. "You won't be under my bed all the time," he said against her ear.
A fit of nervous giggles burst out from Aiko. "Stop it."
"What? As if I'd suggest anything inappropriate," he laughed.
"Well, I've already discovered that you read dirty magazines."
"I don't read them, remember?"
"I swear," she said, pushing him away playfully. "I thought you were a good boy."
Baji's deep laughter roared as he burst into hysterics.
Aiko hit him again in his shoulder, but it took another two hits before he calmed down.
"Sorry, sorry. Okay fine," he said between laughs. "I won't look at the magazines anymore. I don't even wanna see any more magazines when I can just look at you. One question though, and this might sound inappropriate so you can hit me if you want, but ... what size bra do you wear?"
"Baji!" Aiko groaned. "What kind of question is that?"
"I wanna buy you one."
"You don't like my bra?" she asked and pulled her shirt back over her chest.
"There's nothing about you that I don't like. It's just ... They have a different style of ones in those magazines that would look really nice on you."
"If it was in one of those magazines it's probably not appropriate for me, Baji."
"No one will ever see it. Except me, maybe."
Aiko let out a small sigh. It isn't really a bad thing if he wants to buy me a bra, is it? But ... "You've already bought me a present."
"Yeah, but I won't see you until Halloween, because of these Sunday meetings with HM & M, and it looks like Chifuyu owes me some money now so I can use that to buy it. He's also lucky I'm not gonna beat the crap out of him later."
Focusing on the fact that the situation with Chifuyu had only become a reality just then, it was clear it all had something to do with the bra. Which, after a lot of laughing and dodging the question Baji admitted. He and Chifuyu had made a bet about whether or not Aiko wore the same type of bras as Emma and, Chifuyu had guessed she did which Baji didn't agree with, so he'd had won. Hence the reason Chifuyu had escaped the beating he would have gotten if he'd been right as he shouldn't have been paying so much attention to what kind of bra Aiko wore. Needless to say, it also meant that they both paid attention to the types of bra Emma wore and most likely Yui too if Baji would admit it. So Aiko felt it warranted another hit, this one as hard as she could muster which only brought more laughter from Baji.
"Do you know how many times you've hit me tonight?" he laughed. "This could be classed as a form of abuse, and since you're older than me now I have every right to hit you back even harder."
Aiko shoved Baji in the shoulder. "Firstly, I've always been older than you. Secondly, I think you secretly enjoy being hit. And thirdly, you're not going to hit me; I know that."
"No. Never," he agreed. "So I'll just have to kiss you harder." Baji pulled Aiko into his arms pressing dozens of rough kisses along her face and neck.
Aiko struggled against him, caught between laughter and gasps of air to catch her breath as he struggled back against her, eventually pinning her down to the ground.
"No ... seriously," she said between gasps. "You're kinda hurting me."
Baji loosened his grip and gently brushed her hair, which had fallen from the bun he'd made, from her face. "That's the best part," he said. "Now I get to kiss it all better again.'
Aiko closed her eyes as he peppered soft kisses along the same path that he had placed the rough ones. Being in his arms was always amazing, but being in his arms as he showered her with gentle kisses was almost intoxicating.
"Do you know what a funny thing about cats is?" he asked.
"Huh?" she let out almost as a groan as she tried to refocus her mind. What's with the random change of subject?
"It's their tongues," he continued. "They have soft, scratchy tongues that tickle when they lick you." Without leaving Aiko the chance to contemplate his comment he drew the tip of his tongue along her neck.
"Baji?" she giggled. "What are you doing?"
He didn't answer except to trace his tongue along her jaw to the tip of her ear.
Her stomach warmed as she giggled again. He really is crazy? She thought. But outwardly said almost breathlessly, "That's gross, and I hate when cats lick me."
"Really?" he asked and quickly traced his tongue along her bottom lip.
She did hate when cats licked her. It was another reason she had never wanted a cat, but at that moment the reaction her body was having seemed to contradict her former opinion.
"Yes, Baji, and you're not a cat. You're a human boy."
"And I'm not licking a cat. I'm licking a human girl so that sounds about right to me."
Aiko pushed against him slightly to raise herself back up, but it had no impact. His body was light, yet firm and perfectly contoured against her as he looked down at her, his golden eyes bright despite the darkness.
"Admit you like it, Aiko," he said.
"No. I don't."
He bent down to trace his tongue along the other side of her jawbone. "You know if you don't say you like it, I'm going to keep doing it, don't you?"
Aiko's heart pounded, an excitement like no other running through her as an unexpected urge rose through her and a small smirk slipped onto the corner of her mouth.
"I hate it," she said.
Baji's mouth spread into a full smile and slowly he moved back in to trace his tongue once more across her cheek and then her lips before pressing his own down against hers and giving her their first full kiss.
Warmth filled her body from the stomach as he kissed her slowly, savouring each movement, in the way that told her she was his. All the unhappiness that she had ever experienced faded into insignificance in those minutes that he held and kissed her.
"Baji," she whispered into his mouth as he kissed her.
He let out a small groan of acknowledgement but didn't stop.
"Wait, please," she said, pushing against his chest.
"What's wrong?" he asked, propping himself on his elbow to look down at her.
Aiko reached up and brushed his hair out from his face, securing it behind his ear. "Nothing at all is wrong? Right now is the most perfect it has ever been. I just wanted to tell you something."
Light reflected from Baji's full set of teeth as he smiled before leaning in to kiss her again. "If it's not worth you stopping me, I'm going to bite you," he said in a low, gruff voice.
Aiko let out a small giggle. "Well, I just want to confirm, you really are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen."
"Uh-huh," he said as he pulled the hairpin from her messy hair and placed it down on his Toman shirt which lay beside them.
"But also ... I've never told you how much I love you," she let out a deep exhale as all the words she wished she had time to tell him ran through her mind. All the feelings of love she'd felt for him were suddenly too large for her to contain any longer.
"You know my star lights?" she asked, deciding the best way to explain how he had affected her. Baji nodded so she continued. "I used to lie under them every night and think about my mom. I'd tell her about my day and anything that had happened, it made me feel close to her again. Then, the day I met you, I told her about you. I started talking about you every night, and somehow, I started thinking less and less about my mom and more and more about you. Until, one day, I realised I was only thinking of you. You became the one thing that I wanted and that comforted me at night." Aiko cupped her hand around Baji's as he wiped away a stray tear from her face. "Do you think that makes me a bad person?"
Baji's lips were on hers again, kissing her softly, without the hunger.
"From what you've told me of your mother," he said. "I think she'd be glad that you found some happiness. And she knows you haven't forgotten her, you're just enjoying being in love. I don't think you're a bad person, Aiko. I wouldn't love a bad person as much as I love you."
"You're the best, Baji," she said, knowing that everything would be perfect for as long as she had him. "And I hope that was worth it cos I don't want you to bite me."
"It was definitely worth it," he said softly. "But, you know I'm still gonna bite you, right?"
* * *
Baji and Aiko stayed in their seclusion talking for another half an hour before going back to join their friends. Aiko tucked the hairpin that Baji had given her into the top pocket of his Toman shirt, which she was wearing after he also gave it to her.
She'd probably never be able to wear it while on the main grounds at Tateyami's, nor the hairpin, but she would definitely wear them as much as she could when alone in her room.
The group were still sitting around on the blanket, joking and talking while Mikey, who had become exhausted by the lack of food, had fallen asleep. Chifuyu and Yui appeared to be missing from the group too, arriving shortly after Aiko.
"What was that walk with Chifuyu all about?" Aiko asked as she prepared to say farewell to the group.
"Nothing. We were just talking," Yui said with a shy smile. "He's the sweetest boy I know. I wish I was as brave as you."
Aiko felt a slight sting as she was probably more disobedient and stubborn than brave, but as it was, Yui wouldn't dare initiate a relationship with someone her parents wouldn't approve of, which would make Aiko look like a rebel in Yui's eyes.
"Well, I'm still rooting for the two of you, so you never know," Emma said with a cheerful smile.
Aiko gave everyone a hug, with Daichi receiving an especially long one. She hadn't spoken to him as much as she had wanted and she felt it had all only been possible because of him, but she didn't forget to whisper a special thank you into his ear before leaving.
Despite his initial suggestion, Baji rode them back to the fencing by the woodland with Chifuyu not far behind. They planned to drop Aiko off and then meet back up with the others before riding back to Shibuya.
Aiko took baby steps back up to the fence, all the while fighting ideas of just never returning. The idea of living under Baji's bed sounded better and better the closer she got. But Baji was sure his plan with her dad would work and it would be better than living life as a runaway.
"Fine. I'm going to trust you," she said grumpily before giving Chifuyu his farewell hug, and then after a hug and kiss from Baji, she climbed the fence and began the walk back to the school building.
"Wait, Baji," Aiko shouted as she ran back down to the fence.
Baji ran back up on the other side, a ready-to-fight look on his face. "What happened?" he asked as his eyes scanned the areas behind her.
"Nothing," she laughed. "I just forgot to tell you. This was it."
Baji nodded, already aware of what she was going to say.
"This was the best night ever."
"Yeah, maybe," he said, his smile revealing his incisors. "But you wait until Halloween. I promise that will be the new best night ever."
"Okay," she said before turning again to walk away.
It was three more weekends away, and they would meet again. Although, it wouldn't officially be Halloween since they would have to meet the night before. It would be their Halloween, and it would be the best Halloween ever.
The End!
