*HUGE TRIGGER WARNING*
(ATTEMPTED SUICIDE, SELF HARM, ABUSE, SWEARING)

Kalle stood shocked as she looked down at her newly found soulmate laying unconscious in the hospital bed. Kalle didn't know if this was just a crazy coincidence or not. She still couldn't believe this was her soulmate.
Kalle glanced around the room and saw that there was a clipboard on the table next to the bed. She slowly walked over and quietly picked it up off the table and began to read it.

Patient's Full Name: Jean Olivia Byrd
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Date of Birth: April 26th, 2005
Soulmate mark: small blue rose
Soulmate: Unknown
Injuries: 2 large wounds down each inner part of the arms. Each wound starts at the elbow and ends at the wrist. Both wounds seem to be self inflicted.

There was more written but Kalle could no longer see through her tears. Her vision became more blurry and she put the clipboard down and looked over at her best friend laying unconscious. Kalle dropped to her knees as she cried next to Jean's hospital bed.
"Please wake up Jean... please... I'm sorry... I didn't mean what I said... I'm sorry for being such an ass... I'm sorry that I didn't see this before... this is why you never let me see your mark... I'm so sorry... just please wake up... you mean so much to me... I can't lose you..." Kalle spoke through sobs.
She heard a small groan felt Jean move a little bit. Kalle lifted her head immediately and looked at her soulmate with a hopefully expression on her face. Jean slowly began to open her eyes and groaned out in pain. Kalle grabbed her hand and brushed her thumb against it and Jean's pain instantly disappeared.
"Kalle?"
"Ya it's me... I'm right here." Kalle was crying happy tears that her soulmate was awake.
"I'm sorry..." Jean's eyes began to water as she looked down to see her best friend crying.
"You don't need to apologize... I should be apologizing... I was so blind..." Kalle was trying to stop crying so that Jean wouldnt start, but was unable to before Jean started crying too.
The two girls just sat and cried for a bit before Kalle finally spoke up.
"I'm sorry that I made you do this to yourself... you deserve a much better soulmate than me..."
"Hey... don't say that... the only reason I did this was because I thought you were going to reject me.... and I thought that it would be better this way... then you could live your life without me..." Jean was crying harder and trying to stay quiet but was unable to as a loud sob came out of her as she looked down and saw the bandages that now covered half her arms.
"Hey, it's okay... I'm right here... you're okay now" Kalle hugged Jean tightly as she felt her soulmate cry in her arms.
"I love you Jean," Kalle said while tilting her soulmates head up to look her in the eyes.
Jean smiled, "I love you too Kalle."

- One week later -

The two girls walked hand in hand to Jean's house, the school getting further and further behind them.
"Come on Jean! It's been over a month since we found out! Don't you think they deserve to know?" Kalle was trying to convince Jean to commit to something she was supposed to do over 2 weeks ago.
"They won't understand..." Jean looked at the ground as the two girls continued to walk.
"They're your parents Jean! They will love you no matter what! Plus it's honestly not their decision, we are soulmates and they will have to live to deal with it!" Kalle began to get upset from the small argument the two were starting to get into.
"Alright... I'll do it. But only because I love you." Jean looked at Kalle with a face full of sadness before the two girls opened the front door of Jean's house and walked in.
The two girls walked into the fairly small house were Jean's father was sitting on the couch watching a T.V. show, and her mother was in the kitchen getting everything set up for dinner.
"Hey dad..." Jean said while walking through the living room which connected to the dining room and kitchen. Her father just waved without even looking away from the T.V.
"Hey mom..." Jean smiled at her mother as the two girls entered the kitchen.
"Oh hey sweetie. Hi Kalle. Hiw was school you two?" Jean's mother asked softly.
"Good." Both girls replied at the same time.
"That's good. Are you staying for dinner Kalle?" Jean's mother looked up from the stove to look at the two girls.
"If you don't mind having me." Kalle responded with a gentle smile.
"We love having you over. Your like a second daughter to us." Jean's mother returned the gentle smile before returning to the stove to finish cooking.
The two girl left the kitchen and headed towards the stairs so they could go to Jean's room like they did every time Kalle came over.
"See Jean, your mom won't mind." Kalle sat down on the other girls bed while Jean placed her school bag beside her desk.
"Ya... she might... but my dad won't... he'll get mad... again..." Jean's eyes began to water as she remembered what happened the week prior.

*One week ago*
Jean walked into the house after getting home from school to hear shouting and screaming from the kitchen. Jean sighed as she knew her parents were fighting again and she would have to walk through the kitchen to get to the stairs.
Jean began to walk through the living room and as she entered the kitchen she watched her father slap her mother across the face hard and her mother drop to the ground. Jean's father standing over her and screaming at her and calling her horrible names. Jean yelled out at her dad, even though every part of her body told her to just run through the kitchen and go upstairs and lick her bedroom door until he calmed down.
"LEAVE HER ALONE!" Jean screamed at her father while he stood over her mother.
"WHAT WAS THAT YOU LITTLE SHIT?" Her father screamed back, now aiming his anger towards her instead of her mother.
"I SAID LEAVE HER THE FUCK ALONE!" Jean screamed at the top of her lungs.
Before Jean could do anything else her father slapped her hard across her face and she fell backwards against the wall, which nearly knocked her unconscious.
Jean stood up on shaking legs as her father stared at her with anger in his eyes.
He hit her again and she fell backwards smashing her head into the wall which made her head begin to bleed and she grabbed the back of her head and cried out in pain.
Jean's mother tried to get to her but her father just kicked her backwards into the counter.
"STAY THERE YOU FAT BITCH!" Jean's father yelled before looking back at Jean.
"YOU'RE SO FUCKING ANNOYING AND USELESS! I WISH YOU WOULD JUST FUCKING DIE ALREADY LIKE HOLY SHIT!" Jean's father screamed at her as she tried not to pass out.
He turned back around when he heard her mother try to interject. Her kicked her again and by the time he turned around, Jean was already gone.
"YA RUN AWAY YOU LITTLE SHIT!" He screamed towards the stairs as Jean was already upstairs and in her bedroom crying while sliding down the wall, a trail of blood following.
Jean thought about her father's words for a while as she could still hear him downstairs screaming and swearing at her mother.
Jean walked over to her desk and pulled out the small blade she had under a stack of paper in the bottom drawer. Jean Wales towards the bathroom before locking the door and filling the tub with water.
Once the water filled the tub, Jean climbed in as she could still hear her father screaming. Jean picked up the blade and spun it in her fingers a couple times before bringing the blade up to her right arm and making a small cut horizontally. Then another. And another. Until her whole arm turned red. She began to feel dizzy as her head was still bleeding, and now her right arm. Jean took the blade in her right hand and placed it on her left wrist before slicing into the skin multiple times.
Jean dropped the razor once she could only see red. She slid deeper into the bath as she noticed her parents had stopped. Her vision began to go dark and she could hear something that sounded like footsteps in the distance. She looked over at the door to see the handle jiggle and heard her mother on the other side trying to speak to her.
Jean's vision blacked out and her ears were ringing loudly. The next thing she knew, she saw bright lights and a small beeping noise, as well as someone crying nearby. She immediately recognize the cries as her best friend Kalle's. The lights were to bright when Jean opened her eyes so she groaned and stared moving a bit.
She opened her eyes to see Kalle sitting next to her bed crying. Jean had to hold in tears, partly because it hurt her to see her soulmate and bestfriend cry, because she knew Kalle would reject her, and because neither of her parents were in the room.
*End of flashback*

Jean let a few tears slip before her mom called the two girls to come down for dinner. Kalle stood up and grabbed Jean before pulling her into a tight hug and rubbing her back.
"It's going to be okay Jean. Even if they get upset, we will just leave. You have a bag packed already so we can just come up here, grab that and leave. You will be safe at my house." Kalle whispered into Jean's ear while the two hugged. As the two pulled away, Kalle kissed Jean on top of the head and smiled at her soulmate.
As the two girls entered the dinning room, they saw her mother sitting in a really tense position as her father sat on the other side of the table.
Even though it was just the 3 people living here, they had a table that could sit 6, because of this, Kalle was able to sit next to Jean. The two girls sat down and started to fill their plates with food.
The whole time the 4 ate, nobody said a single word. The only time anything was said, was when someone was asking for something they couldn't reach.
Nobody said a word until the end of the dinner, when Jean's father cleared his throat and looked up at his daughter for the first time that day.
"Hey Kalle, your birthday was not that long ago, so have you been able to find your soulmate yet?" Jean's father asked bluntly with a very monotone voice that showed no emotions.
"Oh... yes actually... it's a perosn from school... I've got a lot of classes with them so I already know them pretty well..." Kalle rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly.
"What's your excuse? You still don't know who yours is. Pathetic." He spat harshly towards Jean.
Jean just looked down and stayed quiet as her father continued to criticize her before Jean's mother came back to clear the rest of plates plates and he stopped.
"Actually dad. I did find my soulmate." Jean looked up at her father with courage strong in her eyes.
Jean's parents both looked shocked, her mother a happy shocked, and her father a disbelief kind of shock.
"Oh my God! Who? Do we know them? Are they nice? I really hope they make you happy honey." Jean's mother rambled on excitedly.
"Well actually, you do know them. Well her. It's... it's Kalle. We are soulmates. We've known for about a week now." Jean said flat out, only hesitating when saying Kalle's name.
"Oh my god! That's amazing! I'm so glad you two are soulmates! Isn't this great honey?" Jean's mother looked at her husband with a smile on her face.
"How could you be excited over the fact that our daughter is GAY?! That is in NO way okay! It's disgusting!" Jean's father spat out in disgust.
"Well that's to bad! I love her! We're soulmates! DEAL WITH IT!" Jean screamed the last part at her father as he stood up quickly and him face filled with anger again.
He was about to haul off and smack her again but Kalle was fasted and pulled Jean backwards and out of the way.
The two girls ran upstairs and Jean's father stumbled behind them trying to stop the two girls from getting away. They made it into Jean's room and quickly locked the door before grabbing their stuff and opening the window. They used a ladder they had leaned up against the wall earlier just in case this happened.
Just as both girls got to the ground, they heard the bedroom door burst open and Jean's father stomping around. He came over to the window and the pulled the ladder hard and made it fall down so that he couldn't catch them.
Both girls started to run full speed out of the backyard and towards the streets. They ran for a while before deciding to stick to trails because that way, Jean's crazy father couldn't get to them as easily.

It took the two girls nearly 10 minutes of walking through the trails before they got to Kalle's house. The two stepped out after shocking to make sure Jean's dad was nowhere near, the two made a run for Kalle's house when they heard a car getting closer. Both girls made it inside the house as they heard the car slow down near Kalle's house before speeding off again. Both girls walked up to Kalle's room completely out of breath. They both layed down on Kalle's bed and slowly drifted off to sleep, Jean was safe and away from her father for now.
