My hero's name: JAMIE

Simona, Tommy and I were sitting on a bench in the Dove Park, in front of a beautiful two-story brick house, it's the prettiest house in the area, the garden outside welcomes you with white and red roses, I can only imagine their wonderful perfume as you walk into the house, the house where Jamie, my hero, lives.

Jack was knocking on the door when a pretty blonde girl opened it. From where we were sitting we could see their interaction, she was older than us, maybe 18, she smiled at Jack and then she shook her head no, I guess Jamie wasn't home, Jack turned to look at us and pointed our direction while telling her something when her eyes met mine, she smiled at me and her kind smile was so contagious that I found myself smiling back. She turned to say something else to Jack and then waved goodbye. Jack turned around and came our way with a sad look on his face. Simona stood up and walked to him, she patted his shoulder and gave him her seat.

"He's not home"

We nodded in understanding but Simona knew something was off.

"And why the sad face?"

He tried to shrug it off but his eyes were still sad.

"He's still not talking to anybody"

"Well, he spoke with Mills!"

Jack nodded to Tommy and smiled.

"That's my boy, he might be depressed but he wouldn't miss a chance to flirt with Segnorina Amelia here"

"He didn't flirt! He was very attentive and helpful!"

I objected because although I wouldn't have minded him flirting with me, he didn't. He just helped me find my way back home.

"Well, what do we do now?"

Tommy was getting bored, I could tell by his tone of voice.

"My house is right there, let's go watch a movie"

He pointed to a pretty two-story blue house, it kind of looked like Jamie's but without the rose garden.

We all stood up and walked towards Jack's house. It's funny how comfortable we are around each other, if you could see us you would tell we were friends since childhood when the truth is, we've just met.

Jack's house was beautiful inside, the decor was made by a professional, you could tell by the detail in putting colors and patterns together in a way that they matched without being cheesy, the house was stunning.

"Jack! Your house is beautiful!"

He smiled proudly.

"Thank you! My mom is an interior designer, she loves decorating the house."

I nodded in understanding and walked towards Simona, she was looking at a picture of  6 teenage boys, being two of them Jamie and Jack, the other 4 were also very handsome.

"Who are they?"

She looked around to see if Jack was close but he wasn't, he was on his way to the kitchen with Tommy.

"They were Jamie and Jack's friends, the ones from the accident, you know"

"Oh!"

I felt a wave of sadness that I couldn't help, they were so young. It frightened me just the idea of going through what Jamie and Jack were going. Simona motioned me to follow her and we got to the kitchen were the boys were chatting with a beautiful woman, in her late forties, black hair and Jack's eyes, she had a warm smile, she looked at us and her smile grew wider when she saw Simona.

"Hello, Mrs. Savoretti!"

"Simona, dear! I've told you to call me Sofia"

"Yes, Sofia"

Simona blushed and Mrs. Savoretti's attention fell on me.

"And who is this lovely girl?"

"Oh, right mamma, this is Tommy's sister, Amelia"

She clasp her hands.

"Hello Mrs. Savoretti. Pleased to meet you!"

"You too, sweetie. Please call me Sofia"

"Thank you, Sofia. You have a beautiful home"

"Thank you! So polite! Just like your brother! Jack, I like them! Well kids, make yourselves at home, go and watch your film, I'll make you some appetizers"

"Grazie mamma!"

Jack kissed his mom's cheek and led us to the living room. After an argument of which film we shall watch, the boys surrendered to our request and we settled to watch 'Romeo and Juliet'.

Three hours later, Tommy and I were walking back home after walking Simona to hers. She lives closer to the ice cream parlor. Tommy and I were discussing which family should we belong to, the Montague or the Capulet, when we were passing by the Dove Park and my eyes went to Jamie's house. The lights of the first floor were on so I guess the family was having dinner and I wondered if he was back home when a tall figure walked pass us. I recognized him for his copper locks that fell wildly onto his forehead. He had his earphones on and was looking down while walking. I nudged Tommy to let him know what was happening. At first, he looked confused, but then he understood what I was trying to tell him. We stopped and watched him walk into his house, he didn't enter the main entrance, he walked around the house where I figured there was a back entrance, before I could stop myself I ran towards him calling his name, I guess I yelled very loudly because he stopped and came back to the front. He looked a bit confused when he saw me but then he gave me one of his sad smiles.

"Hi Jamie"

I beamed.

"Hum.....hi!"

He put his hands in his pockets.

"How did you you where I lived?"

Shoot! What do I say?

"You just walked passed by me"

"Oh! And my name? How do you know my name?"

I waved him off.

"Jack told me. It's a long story. I gotta run. It's past my curfew. See you tomorrow?"

He looked confused but nodded.

"Sure. But, wait!"

I was running towards Tommy's direction when he stopped me and I turned around.

"What's your name?"

I smiled.

"Amelia"

He nodded and turned to his house. Once I reached Tommy, we resumed walking.

"So I guess you have a date tomorrow"

He smirked at me.

"It's not a date! I just want to be his friend"

"Yeah, he looks like he needs one"

I nodded and sped my pace. Our parents were going to kill us! We left the house without letting them know where we were and we were almost an hour past our curfew and had missed dinner. My mom must be frantic!

When we got home my parents were ready to call the police, they thought we had ran away or that someone had kidnapped us. When we told them we were watching a film with our new friends they were very happy and relieved to know that we had made new friends, and I have to admit that I am also happy we did.

After our late dinner I went to my room to think about the events of the day, we had made two new friends and I had found out my hero's identity. Jamie.... his name suits him, his eyes were still sad but he managed to smile at me and he spoke with me again. It's funny but every time I see him, I feel the urge of soothing him, make his pain go away. I've decided I was going to go to his house after breakfast and see if he would like to show me around town. I doubt he would like to hang out with me but I shall try.

Morning came and I knew it because I was being rudely awoken by my mom.

"Oh Miiiiiiilllllllliiiiieeeeee?"

I stirred trying to make her go away but she continued.

"What mommy?"

She giggled.

"Mommy? You haven't called me that in years! Come on princess! I want to go shopping with you!"

That woke me up!

"Morning mom"

I smiled at her and she gave a playful smack on my derrière.

"Get up and get dressed, we will go on a mother-daughter date"

I was up in a heart beat. I love hanging out with my mom.

"Where are we going?"

She walked after me to my tiny bathroom and talked while leaning on the doorframe.

"Well, you need new uniforms and you and your brother have been such great sports with the moving that I want to show you my appreciation"

I rinsed my mouth, after brushing my teeth.

"And what about Tommy?"

My mom smiled at me, she's always been proud of the relationship Tommy and I share.

"Your dad has taken him on a boy date"

"That's very cool mom! Thank you!"

"You're welcome sweetie, tonight we have an important dinner at your dad's friend so we need to get you a cocktail dress"

Argh! I hate business dinners!

"Do I have to go?"

"Yeah! Your dad's friend is the one who offered him the job here so we have a lot to thank him. Besides he has a kid that goes to your future school so it's great that you and Tommy get to know him before school starts"

Argh! I guess we'll have to go. I was super excited for going out with my mom so I wasn't going to let a stupid dinner ruined my mood.

"Enough talking and let's get rolling"

I nodded and went in the shower while thinking of the things I wanted to do with my mom. I remembered I was supposed to meet Jamie tonight but I guess that will have to wait.
