Portrush, NI, June 2nd, 1999

Three weeks! We are going to be staying in this wonderful house for three weeks!!! And what's better we'll be staying with The Dornans! My parents and Dr. D. have rented this huge house on a beach town around one hour and a half from our home in Belfast.

The rest of our group of friends had felt a bit jealous that we were going to be together in what promises to be the best summer of our lives, but they couldn't come along since Kelly is staying with her parents in London and she'll spend her summer with Mark. Simona has gone to Romania to stay with her grandparents and Jack is in Italy with his sister. He has broken up with Sarah due to the fact that he can't control himself  with all those beautiful Italian girls around him. So much for committing to your girlfriend! But then again, that's Jack's nature.

I smile as I listen to Jamie and Tommy having a deep discussion about footy and which player is the best to their opinion.

My room is next door to theirs and since this is an old house I can listen to their breathing.

I got a room to myself. Liesa and Jess are sharing one. I can't say that I don't feel a bit left out but it is what it is. The perks of having an odd number of teens in a house.

We are all on the second floor, my parents  and Dr. D are staying in the bigger rooms that are located on the first floor.

My room is nice and cozy, in fact the entire house is. The decoration is the same in every room but it's pretty and comfortable.

I have a comfy bed, a reading corner and a view to the lake, yes we got so lucky that our house backyard faces a small lake. We can see the ocean from the front porch and the fresh smell of the ocean fills the entire house.

I start unpacking and neatly organizing my closet when I feel someone staring at me. I didn't have to turn around to see who it was.

"You do know that staring is very impolite, don't you?"

He chuckles. How I love his chuckle.

"It's not called staring when the other person knows you're.... let's call it... Admiring her"

The butterflies in my stomach go crazy at his comments and I feel my face breaking into a huge grin as I turn around to face him.

"Why aren't you unpacking?"

"I have already. I multitask. Your brother in the other hand... He's a little disorganized"

"A little? It took him weeks to organize his bedroom after moving, he might not be fully unpacked by the time we have to go back home"

"Argh! Don't say that!"

"What?"

"That we are going back. I want to live here forever! In fact....."

He came closer to me and wrapped his arms around my waist making my heart do some summersaults. And then my heart stopped when he continued his statement in a husky voice.

"Why don't we stay and live here?"

I can't help but smile like the love struck teen that I am.

"What about high school? We're going to be seniors. And what about college?"

He let me go and sat on my bed, leaving me to stand awkwardly by my closet.

"I guess you're right. Let's make a deal, let's have the best time of our lives"

"I think we could do that"

From where I'm standing I flash him my best smile and he smiles back at me happily.

We are rudely interrupted by my bored brother.

"Ok you two! I'm bored!"

And he dropped unceremoniously on my bed.

"I can see that!"

Jamie answers with a grin.

"Let's explore!"

Both Jamie and Tommy look at me expectingly.

"Well I guess I can unpack later"

"YES!"

Both boys say I unison. I needed to take advantage of the situation.

"I do need to unpack"

I get an eye roll from Tommy and a curious look from Jamie.

"But I can leave that for later if you guys fancy an ice cream?"

"Sure Mills, we'll pay for your ice cream but can we go already?"

Jamie and I start laughing at Tommy's complaining.

"Ok! Ok! Let's go!"

Tommy stood up happy to be out of the house and away of his unpacking and Jamie stood and extended his hand out for me to take.

We walked out hand in hand and ran into Jess coming out of her room.

"Where are you guys going??"

Since there was no answer from her brother I stepped in.

"We're going to explore"

"Oohhhh can I come along?"

"Sure"

She smiled at me but I felt Jamie stiffen a bit.

I don't see why he doesn't like hanging with his sisters, specially Jess, she's super cool and she will be going to Design School in London after this trip so this is a farewell trip for her. And we shall make it unforgettable.

We tell our parents where we're heading and walk towards the beach. Jess and Tommy walk in front of us and Jamie and I are right after them.

Jamie lowers his voice and asks me shyly.

"So Mills? Can I ask you a question?"

I look up at him curiously since he's acting estrange.

"Sure"

"I know it's only been a month but... Hum....Are you....totally over Raoul?"

His question surprises me.

Am I though?

Raoul has been gone for a month and ever after his birthday, Jamie and I have been inseparable.

I haven't had time to think where my emotions are about Raoul.

I miss him.

I do.

But I love spending time with Jamie.

"So?"

I come out of my thoughts when I hear Jamie's voice.

"Humm, sure.... I mean... Yeah.... Yes"

He drops his gaze to the floor so I try to fix it.

"I do miss him but you have been helping me a lot and it doesn't hurt anymore.... So... Thank you for always being there for me"

He brings his gaze back to me and smiles.

"I'll always be here for you. This..."

"Belongs to you"

My eyes water a little.

Who wouldn't cry after such wonderful words.

Does this mean?

Then he continues.

"You will always be my best friend and I will always take care of you"

Right.

Best Friends.

I don't have time to reply because we have reached the shore.

"Come on you guys! Let's swim!"

Tommy is already running towards the water taking off his shirt. Jess follows his actions.

Jamie and I run towards them laughing. I stop to take off my shorts and my T-shirt. Jamie takes just his shirt off, he performs a flip over and gets into the water.

I clap for his performance and he bows.

Then I ran towards him and jump on his back. Jess follows my lead and jumps on Tommy's back.

We play around and swim until our fingers are pruned.

"Let's watch the sunset!"

We all agreed to Jess' idea and laid down on the sand singing and laughing.

This promises to be the best summer of our lives and we haven't finished day one yet!

We had dinner with our family and told them about our adventure of the day. Liesa was over excited because she had encountered one of her long time crushes and he was spending the summer with his family in a house nearby. My parents and Dr. D had made the dinner and it was delicious.

After dinner Tommy, Liesa and Jess settle down to play some Monopoly while Jamie and I are laying on the coach looking at all the flyers of the surf schools in the area.
After an hour we decided to visit them all and go by intuition when choosing our school. Even Liesa will be joining the classes.

We decide to call it a night and get our beauty sleep for tomorrow.

They all went to their rooms and I went to mine by myself.

I feel silly to feel scared.

This big old house gives me the creeps.

After tossing around I give up falling asleep. I try to turn on my bedside lamp and instead of reaching it I knock down the alarm clock which fell with a loud thump.

Shit!

This will wake up the entire house.

In a matter of seconds there was a soft knock on my door.

"Mills? Are you ok?"

I smile at the voice behind my door.

I fix my pajamas that consist in a tank top and short shorts and slowly open my door.

And what greeted me outside my door made me drool.

Shirtless Jamie ask me something I couldn't understand because I was too busy staring at his naked torso and white boxers.

"Are you ok?"

"Sorry, What did you say?"

He smiles his shy smile. The one that makes me hot everywhere.

"Are you okay?"

"Oh yeah yeah! Just couldn't sleep and knock the bloody alarm clock off the bedside table"

"Would you like me to keep you company until you fall asleep?"

I look up at him and he flushes I guess he realized I wasn't looking at his eyes but his buddy down there.

So I needed to stop myself from more embarrassment.

"No. It's ok. I just need the loo"

He looked disappointed.

"Oh! Ok. Let me know if you need me"

I nodded and rush to the bathroom.

I heard his door closing and slapped my forehead.

"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!"

I look at myself in the mirror and ask myself, what would have happened if he had stayed in my bedroom with me, wearing just those boxers??

I'm not sure I wanna be just friends anymore......
