Belfast, June 11th, 1999

Listening to Britney Spears while organizing your room is not that bad after all. I have no idea what Simona has against her. Britney is amazing!

As I clean my room and throw away some old stuff, I remember the last days my family and Jamie's family had at the beach. What a fantastic holiday! Not only did we all had a wonderful time together. But the best part was that my best friend has become my boyfriend and I couldn't be happier! It's been a week since Jamie and I are together and it's been nothing but fabulous.

After the picnic on the dock, we returned home to my mom's surprise party, it was wonderful having all my loved ones in one room. I got many thoughtful presents, and although I didn't get a car, as Jamie did, I got a laptop computer, which I really love. After the party Jamie and I went for a walk and he gave me his gift. He had bought a bracelet that was made of leather with a blue stone in it, that had a constellation drawn in it, at first I didn't see what it meant but then he showed me he had one just the same and when together with mine it formed a heart, which made my heart melt. He had thought of this before we were officially boyfriend and girlfriend. I am indeed one lucky girl!

As I am going over the mess on my desk, the door of my bedroom opens and in walks my other best friend, Miss Romania herself, wearing a nice tan which contrast her long blonde locks and baby blue eyes.

"Hello my dear, haven't you missed me?" She crosses her arms in front of her and gives me a cocky smile.

I went to hug her. "Of course I have, silly! I have so much to tell you!"

"If it's about Jamie, I know." I give her a quizzical look and she shrugs. "I ran into Jack on my way here. Of course, Jamie had told him." She rolls her eyes and then smiles.

"I want to know everything!" She says the last part separating the syllables. I seat on my bed cross-legged and pad a seat next to me.

"Take a seat, sister! You won't  believe what I did!"

And like that we spent the afternoon catching up, I told her every single detail about our trip, leaving aside how Jamie and I had become a couple and she told me all about her trip to her hometown. She always complains that she has to go away by herself while we stay together or at least travel to the same place together, but I know that deep inside she loves going back home and reconnect with her cousins and grandparents, her family is very close and every time she goes back, it's like she never left.

My mom, being the saint she is, made us some sandwiches so we wouldn't have to come out of my room for tea. We ate while listening to Brandy, since Britney isn't Simona's favorite and I told Simona everything that happened at the beach, including my crazy blurb I told Jamie.

"YOU TOLD HIM WHAT?" Simona rather yelled.

"Yeah, I know, I feel pretty stupid every time I remember what I did."

Simona puts down the glass of juice she was drinking before I confessed the silliest line a girl could say to a boy: I want you to satiate that need.  I cringe just remembering!

"Ok, Millie, apparently it wasn't that bad, he still asked you to be his girlfriend. But seriously, what got into you? You are not that kind of girl!"

"I know I am not, I don't know what happened, it's just that being 24/7 around him blocked all my common sense."

"Well, Jamie knows you. He knows you are not so bold. Did he try any moves on you?"

I sigh. "No" I don't know if I feel relieved or disappointed, I am confused about that. I am sure I am not ready, that Jamie and I are not ready as a couple. But sometimes, I really want to take this step before anything happens, before anything brakes us.

"I see" I look at Simona who was giving me her knowing smile.

"What is it that you see and have you smiling like that?" I ask annoyed that she can read me so well.

"You, dirty girl, want to do the deed with James!"

"NO!" I try denying it but she is laughing so hard that she is holding her stomach.

"Oh shut it Simona! Leave me alone! Let's get ready, we need to meet Kelly and the boys."

She is still laughing, there's nothing I can do to make her stop. So I just stand up and go to my closet to pick up an outfit.

"Can't blame you, though. James is hot!" I turn around and throw my sweater at her.

"Watch it! He is my boyfriend, now!" She laughs and throws the sweater back at me.

"Of course, you silly! I'm just messing around. Go get pretty, your boyfriend will be there."

I roll my eyes but I can't help but smile. I am happy and in love.

I picked a nice summer dress to wear and match it with some sandals. I decide to wear some lipstick and after I'm done I twirled around so Simona can see me.

"You look pretty. Here, this matches your outfit."

She hands me a little box and when I open it, I see the cutest earrings I've ever seen, they had like a tear drop black stone.

I look at Simona and she smiles.

"Happy Belated Birthday!" I hugged her.

"Thanks Sim!" She smiles and takes the box from my hands.

"Here, try them on." She takes one and passes it to me.

"They are from a special stone, Onix, it's supposed to protect you from evil and to clean your aura"

I go to the mirror to see them on me.

"They are beautiful!"

Our eyes meet through the mirror and I can see her blue eyes are watering just as mine are.

"Ok, enough of the mushy mushy, let's get going!"

We link our arms and walk down the stairs. I show my mom my new earrings and she coos like a teenage girl.

"I'll make sure to buy some for you Mrs. Campbell." My mom melts.

"Aw! You are the sweetest Simona!"

"Alright, mom. Let us go. The guys are waiting for us."

"Ok, my love. Is Tommy going to join you?"

"Yes, he met Jamie, Mark and Jack earlier. They will meet us at Kelly's." I go kiss my mom goodbye and drag Simona out of my house before my mom starts asking her about her trip.

Kelly's house is a good twenty minute walk from mine. She is not rich but her house is definitely the biggest and the coolest. Her boyfriend Mark is joining us. We know him but any time we used to get together, he would go out with his friends. Since Kelly has been in London for the summer, Mark had made a move and tried being friends with the boys, I guess he wants to join our gang.

During our way to Kelly's, Simona and I had more time for her to tell me all about her trip. She loved spending time with her cousins, she even went to a disco with them! She said it was in the afternoon, just for teenagers, but she had the time of her life. Once at Kelly's, her mom answered the door.

"Simona! Amelia! You girls look lovely!"

We say hello in unison and Mrs. Nordstrom laughs at our coordinated greeting.

"Come in girls, you are the cutest! Kelly and the boys are waiting for you in the basement."

Kelly's mom has changed, ever since she started dating Mark, her mom has become more permissive about the boys hanging out with us, she even lets her hang out with Mark without a chaperone, and that is something huge for Kelly since she was raised very strictly.

Kelly's basement is the coolest place ever! Since she is an only child, her parents turned this area into her own paradise, it has everything: video games, pool table, karaoke machine, a big TV with her Collection of DVDs and books and even a stereo. It also has a little bar with high chairs for us to have our snacks at.

When we arrived the boys were already playing at the pool table and Kelly was sitting as bored as any girl hanging with four boys can be, so when she saw us, she ran to us and gave us a hug so tight that she almost knocked me out. I wasn't ready for her hug, I was some how distracted by the blue eyes piercing my gaze.

Kelly hugged Simona first, then she interrupted my eye contact with my handsome boyfriend to come hug me.

"I've missed you so much girls!" I return her hug and with the same affection I declared, "I've missed you too, Kels."

"I know the great news." She beamed with excitement. "Go say hello to him." She wiggled her eyebrows and I rolled my eyes.

The thing about my friends is that they know I've had a crush on Jamie for like forever, ever since I met him, I developed feelings too strong to be just friendship, and both Simona and Kelly know how much I suffered when Jamie was dating Orchid and I had to be the best friend that supported him all the time, on any decision he made, even if I hated it more than broccoli.

I follow the girls to say hello to the boys but I am caught in strong arms. Jamie's hands linger in my hips while he gives me his playful smile. Then he kisses me, taking my breath away as every time he kisses me. Our lips meet and start their well known dance. I don't think I'll ever get bored of kissing Jamie. Our kiss is so perfect, so 'nsync, as if we were made for each other.

I break our kiss needing air to breathe and hear the woo's coming from our friends. Apart from Tommy, I guess this is the first time they are seeing us kiss, and it feels wonderful telling the world that Jamie is my boyfriend, that we are a couple, and most importantly, we are best friends, and as Jamie gives me his shy smile, I feel like we we are meant to be together and even if we are not going to attend the same school, we will always share this strong bond, because above all, we are best friends.
