The Truth
Adam's POV
The doctor said I had a severe anxiety and panic attack. He said I'll need medication to ease these visions.
Michael hasn't said a word. I haven't said a word. No one has said a word.
I've never been more ashamed or embarrassed. Almost all of Tokyo saw me have a break down.
I'm in my hotel room. I refuse to talk to anyone. I'm simply going to rehearse, do the shows, and get my check. I need the money and I have no way back home until this is over.
It's November 6. We have a short dance rehearsal while the tech team checks the lights. I'm dressed in the sweat pants and white shirt I stole two weeks ago.
I shove my bag under the bed and leave the room. Everyone is in the hall waiting to leave. When they see me, they don't say a word.
I'm glad too. Tatiana keeps looking over at me. Shaun and Jake walk over to me.
Oh God..
Shaun says, "Michael would like us to see him at rehearsal for a serious talk. Something about our stamina. "
I nod. Jake pats the side of my shoulder. They walk away.
Ten Minutes Later
Shaun said the quick meeting would be in the back room. Well, I'm here and no one showed up. Nice prank, fellas. I turn around to leave, but the door opens and Michael walks in.
He closes it behind him. So, this was just a plan to talk to me. He says,
"Hey, Adam. "
I give him a head nod. He says,
"Please sit. "
I hesitate, but then take a seat. He sits across the table away from me. Maybe to protect himself, I don't know.
He smiles and says, "Listen, I just wanted to make sure you're fine and- "
"I'm fine. May I leave? "
Michael sighs and says, "Some of the tech guys think we might have a problem. They don't want any of the flashes to provoke another episode. "
I clench my jaw and say, "Trust me, bright flashes won't trigger me. I know what does. May I leave now? "
He asks, "How can you be so sure? "
I clench my jaw and say,
"The only thing that provokes these episodes are certain situations that seem familiar to my childhood. Alright? "
Michael looks down at his hands on the table and says,
"Um..well..I..I guess we should get back to work then. "
I stand up to leave, but I stop. I lean on the table with my fists and look at Michael. He looks at me confused. I have this urge to tell him everything.
I clench jaw and close my eyes. I open them and say,
"I'm an orphan, Michael. I have been since birth. The foster home I was put in was brutal. I had to call the caretakers mother and father. That's pretty ironic when they didn't act like it at all. They were both abusive..... father... he, uh, he was very... very abusive. I rather have mother lock me in the basement like she used to do. "
Michael got teary eyed. I swallowed the lump in my throat and continued,
"I guess one day, he saw me in a different way. A way....a way that no child should be seen as. He..he used to beat me with his belt and make me say what my last name is. Trout... I don't know who named me, but it stayed that way. He would take me to the bathroom and beat me in the tub until I said my last name. When I did...he..um..he said I was a good boy and..he..groped me. "
"Oh Adam! "
I raise my hand and say, "Wait..please... "
He nods. I say,
"That went on for a few months until that wasn't enough for him. He..made...me...perform....sexual...sexual acts on him. To this day.. I can't say my last name without triggering an episode. "
Michael stands and embraces me. He holds on tight. I need this hug. I begin to break down in tears. He says,
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I'm here for you, Adam. I'm always here for you. "
I've never felt so good in my life. Finally, someone else knows about my horrible childhood. Friendship never felt so good.
