Chapter 2
Once we walk into the school I realize this year won't be the same as normal.
I'm used to stares. I'm best friends with the popular kids. But the stares aren't towards them, they're towards me.
"Why are people staring at me?" I whisper to June.
"Because you look hot!" she whispers back.
"So who might you be?"
I looked up at the person who was in front and me and saw Chris. He's in his junior year, but he's still one of the biggest jerks of the school.
Well to me at least.
Last year we were put together as partners in biology and he made me do all the work. He knew I was one of the smartest kids, and that was that.
"Demi Louis," I said with a growl.
His eyes widened and he looked me over again, "You're kidding. Louis?"
I rolled my eyes, "Yeah, it's me."
He scoffed and was about to say something when James cut him to it.
"Hey, man, how about you scurry off to stuff your face with Callie?"
He growled but left. Everyone knows not to get on James' bad side. He's six foot three and the quarterback, would you want to get on his bad side?
I sighed, "Thanks."
"Don't worry about it." was all he said before walking off to his own locker.
"C' mon let's get to our lockers," June said before dragging me away from where I was standing.
People kept looking at me throughout the day. I didn't realize I looked that different just by different clothes.
"Do you honestly think only clothes are what people are seeing?" June asked.
"Can you read my mind or something?! Yes, that's what I think!" I exclaimed.
She laughed and shook her head, "You worked out all summer. You kept yourself healthy and you learned how to make yourself even more attractive."
"That was for me, not for these people!"
I didn't like how my body looked by the end of last school year. So, I started eating healthier and I went to the gym at least once a week. I worked on my appearance and I became happy with how I looked. I did it for myself, not to get out of the shadows.
For the rest of the day, I was waiting for the last bell to ring. I just wanted to go home. But since I'm the other two's ride home, and they had a practice tonight, I couldn't.
It's during their practice and I am just messing with my phone. They last four hours so I just work on homework. I the standard classes for the main curriculum, but I also take Spanish three and I'm in the school choir.
I love to sing, easy as that. My grandmother was a music teacher and she helped me become a good singer. When she died a few years ago, I worked harder than ever to be even better.
I looked onto the field and saw that the football players were scrimmaging against each other and the cheerleaders were perfecting some cheers.
I smiled as I saw James score. He really is an amazing player. Of course, he isn't only one type of player.
He never lasts with a girl for more than a week. June tells me it's scary how many crying girls leave their house. I just shake my head whenever she tells me and I will start listening to music. But I'm honestly not surprised. James could get anyone he wants. And he knows it.
I think back to one study session when he was trying to distract me by flexing so we didn't have to study but I just smacked him over the head.

It's after practice and we all just got in my car.
"God James you stink," June said as she rolled down her window.
I laughed and rolled down the rest of the windows while James growled.
"I just had practice, I'm sweaty," he replied.
I shook my head and headed down our street. They live about six houses from me, so we hang out a lot more than needed.
Once we get to their house, we all head in and take over the house. I turn on the tv while the other two go take quick showers. Once they are done, June gets food and James brings blankets and pillows into the living room.
We would normally study right now but there is no need to. So, we just hang out. Eventually, James leaves to go do something else and June and I just watch movies until I decided to leave.
"So you have to go? You can just stay the night!" June exclaimed, failing to convince me to stay.
"Sorry, but no. I'm going home!" I say back with a laugh and heading out.
I walked through the concrete path towards the driveway and towards my car when I hear something coming from the garage. I go towards the garage door and listen closely and I hear pretty amazing drumming. I head back into the house and into the garage.
In there I see James. Playing drums. And not even noticing me.
I smirk and get out my phone to start recording. It's really amazing. It's something I would hear in rock music but not really. It's hard to explain. It's not like punk rock but it's definitely something major.
Once he stops playing I start to clap and he just looks at me terrified.
"How long were you there?!" he exclaimed.
I looked at the video length, "Six minutes it looks like."
"You recorded me?!" he yelled.
I smirked, "Yeah, got a problem with that?"
He growled and threw the drumstick at me. I hardly was able to dodge them.
"WHAT THE HELL JAMES?!" I yelled.
"Get out! I don't want to see you! Ever!" he yelled back.
I felt tears threatening to fall out. I hate it when people yell, especially guys. It terrifies me. I breathed in real quick before nodding and running out.
I ran to my car and I drove back to my house, not paying attention to June who is yelling at me from their driveway.
When I get home I run inside and I run to my room and slam the door shut.
I sit down on my bed and feel the tears start to fall. I look down at my hands and realize they are majorly shaking. Whenever I'm scared, that happens. And James has never yelled at me, or anyone. So that made me even more scared.
