Chapter Seventeen

It's been two weeks since the incident at zed's party. I have been avoiding everyone's calls and ignoring their text messages.

Everything has been the same. Watching the same Netflix series with my brother, reading the same book, eating a lot of junk food, my brother annoying the living hell out of me. At some point. My mother reminds me of a horrible cook I am, falling asleep in my mom's lab, and swimming in the pool with my brother every sunny afternoon.

Same. This morning I woke up the same, drank the same mug of coffee my mom made for me, and grabbed the same "After we fall", but my embarrassment is the only thing that has not been the same. It's now missed with a little nervousness. When will I stop hiding? When will I leave the same bed and face a different day outside with different people?

The sound of a knock on my door brought me to the surface.

God!. My brother always chooses the wrong moment to burg me.

"get out Mile. I don't want to watch the stupid-ass greenhouse Academy " I screamed.

I didn't hear a reply and I wonder why? I have the type of brother who talks like a lady. He always has a comeback waiting for me.

When my door opens and I lift my head to see who just entered my room, that is when the familiarity ended.

At least..... To an extent.

Ever since I was five years old when I became friends with Jane I had never stayed for two days without talking to Jane. Even when we'd have a misunderstanding over toys or whose Christmas clothes are more beautiful and she went home angry or I left her house angry. I will make sure my mom drove me to her house or she comes to mine knocking at my door with a lollipop.

For a moment in my life, I thought I'd grown out of it. But every morning when I woke up I have been tempted to call her or return a text. I miss my best friend. Not Been but Jane.

I kept convincing myself that I needed space but that was not true because as I am looking at Jane, I realized one thing..... It wasn't a space that I needed. It was my friend.

Jello legs. That's exactly what I had when I pushed up from my bed to stand in front of Jane. She'd gotten closer without saying any word and that scares me.

Confusion and sadness on every inch of her beautiful face that I adore so much. And me... I don't know what came over me. I am scared she might push me away if I try to hug her. I wouldn't be angry or try blaming her if she do that. but still, I am scared.

I had planned and memorized every word I will tell her when u see her. Even now my mouth had planned on saying something. Even opened my mouth to say "I am sorry ". Instead, I think a cat would've understood me better. The sound I made wasn't a world, but more like an "ow" and it was weird because it ended with a "what are you doing here ?" with that, she is wrapping her hands around my body. I hug her back

"I was so worried sick about you and I swear if I did not see you today I might die," she said. It came out of her mouth more like a whisper.

What she said made me blink and I look back at her bright green eyes. Of course, she was worried sick about me and I was being the selfish one.

"I am sorry " I finally said to her. She let me go and back away a little.

The corner of her lips went up in a smirk and she fold her hand under her breasts fighting her head to the side.

"Jeiel style. You look like hell, get into the bathroom now!" Jane said pointing in the direction of my bathroom.

Right. I haven't had my bath nor brash my teeth since morning so yeah, I look like hell.

"Jane Thompson can you calm the fuck down"

"you. Are. Reeking." she bit back.

"I know and I like the smell. It's satisfying." I defend myself.

"oh God Jeiel. Get into the shower now !" Great. She is losing her mind but I miss this. I miss this Jane that commands me into the shower like a child when I'm being too lazy.

I will just have to press harder.

"I just want to binge-watch Netflix. Can you let me do that?" I have to keep myself from groaning.

She walks to my reading desk and brought out the dirt I shoved in between the desk and wall.

"what the hell is this? Are you an old woman now?" she continues.

"Okay, fine. Only if you promise me you're going to shout the hell up" I answer immediately, surprising myself. Maybe because of the way I secretly found this dramatic Jane Thompson amusing.

"cool. I will shout up" she says with a big smile. She sure is being extra bossy today.
