chapter seven
My alarm went off by 8 am and I couldn't sleep back. I lay on my back staring at the ceiling.
I don't have any plans of going anywhere today.
I will just stay in the house and sleep, watch Netflix, eat, and sleep again.
The ground clock from the living room chimed nine times, echoing through the house. I have always hated this stupid clock.
Feeling frustrated, I stand up from my bed and pull on alight clothes.
I rush down the living room In search of my mother but she is not at her usual spot.
I walk through the back door to the backyard, I take a deep breath.
"Fuck" I say. Letting out all my pent-up frustration. I sit on a folded chair beside our pool, my arm crossed. I hiss standing to my feet.
I glance at the pool the water calling to me and even though I know the water wouldn't be warm at best.
I couldn't help but run towards it as my life depends on it with my clothes and everything on.
I swim around a little, feeling the water swishing calmed me. I swim to the pool step, water dripping from my hair onto my face. I wiped my eyes and sit on the pool step, not bothering to come out.
The sun is so heavy that I feel like it's burning my skin.
"Are you okay?. Why'd you get in the pool with your clothes on?" I hear my mom's voice from behind. I turn my head in that direction. She looks confused.
I point my hand at the sun and she quickly understands. shaking her head.
"I will make you fresh orange juice. Come inside when you're done" I perk up at the news.
"Thanks, mom," I said. The joy is evident on my face.
"You're welcome, honey. Put on sunscreen or you'll burn" she said and I node even though she can't see me because she was already entering The house.
I walk to the small cupboard by the pool shed. I pull out the sunscreen and rub it on every part of my body that the sun could touch.
My eyes flick to my dad's favorite spot on the other side of the pool and dark memories I'd been pushing down for the past eleven months threatened to resurface.
I take a deep breath and dive back into the pool, letting myself sink to the bottom where the water is coolest. I let my mind wander as I close my eyes, trying to distract myself from the dark part my mind was about to go down.
Suddenly, a pair of honey eye boys flash in my mind and I frown.
Why don't I get his stupid face out of my mind?
I shake my head gently, I let the coolness of the water calm my brain.
But the same pair of glowing eyes filled my mind. His brown sun-kissed chocolate skin, light brown and long lashes, black short hair that looks soft, a pair of shallow dimples, a smile that brightens the world, and lips that reminds me of ripe blueberries.
At that thought, I panicked. Pushing my way up, I gasp for air. Taking my hair to the back, I sigh and swim to the pool step.
Suddenly, I feel tired. I grab my towel from the chai and wrap myself in it. Strolling into the house my mind was confused and foggy.
The cold air that greeted me at the door dry my body quickly as I drag my feet to the dining where a glass of orange juice awaits me but my mother isn't there.
I hear the door close upstairs. I smile sipping my juice, I thought maybe I can as well make some toast. I walk to the kitchen, I put two slices of bread on a toaster. A few minutes later, I am done eating and have washed my plate and cleaned up.
I walk upstairs with a sense of purpose.
I changed to a crop top and a light shorts and I am ready for a nice nap. Just as i put my head on my pillow, hear a knock on my door and I groan. before I could answer my door creaked open and Ben stuck his head into my room.
"Get out of my room. Dick head" I said and he smiles.
