Training Hard
On Monday, we we're split into groups of twenty five and each into one of the four arenas. Once in, we were introduced to our teacher, Finish-Speaking Fin. He was a short, father fat little man with a long blonde beard and a stubby helmet. His thick, croaky voice told us it was really time he retired. But, as we all know, a Viking only retires when he dies. He barked on at us.
"Welcome to Berk's School of Dragon Trainers! Here you will learn the ins and outs of how to train your dragon. Today, is all about protection. We will teach you the basics of protecting yourself when faced with a wild beast. Hand-to-hand combat, self-defence mechanisms and target practice. I will split you into fives and last-years students will be your tutors."
A few people a little older than ourselves came out to us. "Group 1, Macayla, group 2, Natasha, group 3, Jayden, group four, Carmen and group 5, Alec." My head jolted up in shock.
Who was in group 5?
Alec was headed right for us. He seemed confident until he spotted me, then he fell tense and awkward.
"Hi guys, welcome to arena 3! I'm Alec and I will be your one-on-one combat trainer."
I felt my face grow red and hot. One-on-one?! No! Too awkward!
"Let's start with names."
Faith was first, then a girl named Krystal, a guy named Tristen and another guy named Leo.
"My name is Allysia."
all I could squeeze out without breathing was that small sentence. "
Okay err...Leo, you first."
Leo stepped up ad flicked his blonde fringe, he was already flirting with Krystal who took no notice. He had practiced this before and pummelled Alec to the ground. Alec stood and brushed himself off.
"Okay, something like that. Or a little like this!"
He beat him back and grinned proudly at his skills.
"Being obnoxious doesn't always mean you're smart."
He held his hand out to Leo and helped him up. We buckled with laughter as Leo crawled back up to us, struggling to swallow his humble pie. "Allysia?"
I turned to him like a rabbit to a wolf. My heart sank. No!
"Okay..."
I slowly walked over and he showed me a few simple moves. It wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be. Once sat back on the bench, Krystal turned to me with her sapphire eyes sparkling. "Before you get any ideas, Alec is mine."
I turned back to watch Alec train Faith. I wasn't here to earn a boy's affections.
"My name is Krystal by the way. My Daddy always said it matched my eyes. What does your Dad say? Your eyes remind him of dragon scat?"
I huffed deeply at her hurtful remark.
"My Dad's dead."
