Home of Adventure
Chapter 25, part 1
That night after? I returned home, I was so hungry and tired. I washed and changed into the loosest clothes I could find and demolished one of Alison's meals. At the back of the Hamilton home was a ledge. Once Faith was asleep, I sat out there and cupped my knees to my chest. The cool night air cleared my head as I took deep breaths. It felt good to be back home safe and sound. What an exciting first week at Dragon Training School! I had made six new friends, trained a mythical dragon and...fallen in love. That was something I never thought I would do in nearly two weeks. I guess being trapped with nothing to eat and nothing to protect me, I fell a little faster. I sighed dreamily. I was so excited to go out flying for myself and continue with my training. My thoughts were interrupted by a certain someone. He crept out onto the ledge and joined me. We sat in silence for a little while just looking out to sea. Alec was first to speak.
"It's been fun."
I laughed and nodded in agreement.
"Yes, the most I've ever had."
He stared at me while I laughed, his blue eyes burning through me while our dragons played beneath our feet, I grinned down at them and still he stared. I eventually turned to him.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
His mouth worked its way into a crooked smile.
"I've never seen anyone more beautiful than you..."
I bit my lip and curled my hair behind my ear.
"Liar."
He laughed and rested his hand on my cheek.
"No! No, no lies...I am gonna miss you so much when you go home at the end of the summer."
I neared his face.
"What if this is home?"
His eyes widened and danced in the moonlight.
"You? You'll stay here?"
I nodded and drew him closer so our foreheads touched.
"If wherever you are is home, Berk is home. You are like...no one I've ever met before Alec Hamilton."
He touched our noses.
"That's because there is only one Alec Hamilton. But more importantly, there is only one Allysia Codburn."
I kissed him in the moonlight that night.
Yes, I was home.
Chapter 25, part 2
As we kissed in the moonlight, a shout from below us woke Faith and startled me. Alec seemed prepared for it though. He smiled down to Krystal, Leo, Tristen and Yasmin.
"Come on."
Faith and I followed him down.
"What's going on?"
He seemed sad all of a sudden.
"Liss...the Whistlers can't stay here. There's too many weapons and helmets that reflect light...they'll die if they stay on Berk."
I swallowed that hard truth.
"Isn't there another way?"
The others shook their heads. I threw myself into a hug with Firesky. I couldn't say goodbye now! Not after everything we'd been through together! The others hugged their dragons too. It really was goodbye...I cried. She was my close friend now and it was like losing someone all over again. The other dragons flew away and Firesky stayed.
"No, you have to go with the others, you'll die if you stay here, girl!"
She tilted her head and whined.
"No. Go home."
She nuzzled me and I hugged her one last time.
"I love you, Firesky. Now go home where you belong. I'll see you again, just wait till' I wash up on your shores again looking for a friend!"
She licked me then jumped off the cliff and joined the others in the air.
"Goodbye..."
I felt Alec put his arm around my waist. I rested my hand on his.
"We did the right thing."
He smiled and took Krystal's hand then she took Leo's and so on until we were standing in a long row on a tip-edge cliff on the Isle of Berk. Yep! I was home. We were home. As I watched my dragon fly away, I smiled and squeezed Alec's hand. Leo grinned at us and then looked back to Whistler Island.
"Who's up for fishing?
