Chapter 1
"This is Berk, they say it snows nine months of the year and hails the other three, but, the weather's not actually that bad. Our island is twelve degrees North of Hopeful and a few degrees South of awesome. It is located solidly on the Meridian of Magic. In a word, sturdy. We have lived here for seven generations. We have hobbies like hunting, fishing and needle point. Five years ago our favourite, I say favourite, more like most engaging hobby, was dragon killing. Most people would have left. Not us, we're Vikings, it's an occupational hazard. My friends and I were learning to be dragon killers when I, accidentally, shot down a Night Fury, the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. To Vikings, I was cowardly, to you, humane. I wouldn't kill a dragon. Instead, I befriended and trained it. My amazing dragon, Toothless, changed our world and we changed his. Now we don't kill dragons, we ride them. Fishlegs, rides Meatlug, the rather heavily-armoured Gronckle. I ride Toothless, the only known living Night Fury. Astrid, rides Stormfly, the rather playful Deadly Nadder. Snotlout rides Hookfang, the stubborn and strong-willed Monstrous Nightmare and Ruffnut and Tuffnut ride Barf and Belch, the super-crazy Zippleback. These incredible creatures we used to kill have now moved in! Our new favourite and engaging past-time, is DRAGON RACING!"

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third was giving me, Allysia Codburn and my sister Faith, a tour around the Berk! As the ship came into port I could hardly contain my excitement! We were two of many to arrive on the Island that day. The Isle of Berk was known for having the best Dragon Training School in all of the archipelago and we had both gotten places as recruits on their new course. At sixteen and fourteen it was finally time to be paired with our dragons. There were so many types, colours sizes, we had no idea who we would be partnered with! It was tradition to have your dragon choose you and that was exactly how we planned it.
