Chapter 19: No Innocence Involved

Christian P. O. V:

Fall in Love with her smile?

Impossible!

Who is going to fall in love with that mentally retarded goof laugh?

She is exactly not my type. I have my standards high.

No gooey cheesy romance
No lovey-dovey pickup lines.
And definitely

No Innocence Involved.

I walked to the dance hall, as my mind thought of a hundred reasons why she is an ordinary girl. One day, I'll be going to wake up in my neat bed, tired with unsatisfied hunger. We would be the most boring couple, hearing the monotonous news on air, sipping the bland coffee with our minds wandering when our fierce romance died.

I'm not into relationship stuff.

Luke dodged me with a great thrust, wiping my mind clean. I looked at his sprightly vibe, as he jumped across me.

"Dude, it's Twerksday and you are walking. Run or you will miss!", He said as he ran with a great speed.

Miss what?

As soon as I entered the hall, I was welcomed by the cacophonous cheering of the boy's bevy around the brightly lit stage.

What's with everyone?

I stood there, my hands on my knees catching my breath. Soon the crowd became silent, only the sound of David organizing the crowd, echoed through the hall. I pushed my way through the crowd, occupied the front line near the stage.

Sweet mercy!

In the light of astoundingly blazing ochre aurora, Laura stood in the front row, in slinky black shorts with leather boots and half hoodie, showing her skin at right places, her black hair flowed down like a glossy cascade, twisted curls at the end. The hot and heavy aura made her skin slightly wet. The crowd caused a cute coyness on her glossy face, as she looked down with insecurity. Her shy eyes caught occasional secret glances of David, who was sincerely adjusting the camera.

"Let's rock it.'', he clicked on the camera, the thunderous bass boomed through the black speakers, my heart pacing with it.

Damn!

Her face showed millions of fervid expression which sparked cold creeps all over to the crowd. My spellbound eyes never blinked or looked away, her dance so bewitched, a rapturous mix of emotions flowed through me. I swallowed a hard lump down my dry throat, her muscles danced as she twerked. Her hair sticks to her wet face, as she turned her head. She bit her crimson red lips, streaking goosebumps on my arms. Her sassy body moved along to the crisp bass of the rap song.

Damn! Innocent and babyish all time, this seductive side of her stunned me heads over heels.

The music came to the end as the crowd goes bananas, boys shouting as Laura bowed as she smiled brightly. Her emerald eyes suddenly locked with mine, as my blank mind was still moonstruck by her talent, staring back at her like a stalker but I was too stunned to zone back in. Confused, she blushed pink and her hands jittered to cover her skin.

Look away, Christian!

I tore the strong gaze away from her, as my hands roughly ran around my hair, trying to maintain my cool composure. I blinked deeply and gave thumbs up to her, to which she gave an immature smile.

"Laura." David came near to her, as she looked at him, her lovesick eyes craved attention from him.

"Where were you, last night?", He asked with a plain tone.

"I was with Chris. Why?", She said, innocently. I mentally facepalmed at her answer.

Here comes the party pooper.

"Seriously! We are trying hard to get sponsorship while you are romancing with your lover-boy.", His harsh voice dominated her naive nature.

"You are not concentrating enough. You miss a lot of beats and lacking in moves. Practice hard. For now, Skye will take the lead." David said with authority, as he gave an irksome glare at her.

What? Are you kidding?

She danced great. Why are you changing her position?

His haphazard comment brought her high spirit tumbling down the hill. He hurt her precious pride and joy in front of the crowd. The blue agony pictured on her face, which she tried to hide with the brightest smile.

"I'm sorry. I'll try harder.", she said politely, the low buzz of murmurs toned down. He then locked eyes with me, a threatening scowl blazed in his eyes.

"Recording starts next week," David shouted, his voice ricocheted inside the old building. The crowd slowly dismissed as I saw Laura, sitting in the corner packing her bags. No one would notice the slight jitters in her hands, her uneven breath or her moist eyes masked behind the black hair.

"Honeybee?" I swung my hand over her shoulder, as she startled on touch.

"God! You scared me.", She said as she turned away in a swift to cover up her vulnerability. I'm a great sucker when it comes to consoling. I always end up goofing at these serious moments, so right now I was walking on pins and needles.

Should I hug her from the back? What if she slaps me?

Maybe I should compliment her that she was so hot? Nope. She would think that I'm mocking.

I guess I should walk away. Leave her and she would settle.

I turned around silently to walk away, but a slight sniffle tied my feet as I looked over her, pathetically. Suddenly, she grabbed me my arm.

"Get ready! We are going somewhere." She commanded me, her facade unreadable.

"My calves are burning, Laura. Can't we just take a little break?", I said, my body not able to equate to her speed.

After almost half an hour of bicycling to the ghastly outskirts of the deserted town, we are now climbing the steep staircase to the top of an abandoned building. The rugged stones were crumbling down on each unsteady steps we took and the steel staircase were all rusted and uncertain. In addition, my fear of heights was overwhelming me. Finally, we reached the top of the stairs.

It's almost twilight, the excited sun descended fast behind the red cotton candy clouds, ready to dawn on the other side of the world. The little dots of birds cawed a rhapsody as they flew above us. The pacific moon looked at the sun, bidding goodbye.

I looked down from the roof to see widowed roads and neglected houses, all singing alone in the macabre breeze. A loud howling of owls afar and rustling brown leaves were the only music heard in the spooky solitude.

Great.

I closed my eyes to calm my erratic heart.

One Mississippi.

Two Mississippi.

Three Mississippi.

A sudden jerk on my back terrorized me, as I collapsed on the floor, taking my heart to my mouth. I swiftly opened my eyes in horror to see Laura, laughing wickedly as I tightly grabbed her arms in utmost fear.

"What are you doing with your eyes closed? Are you praying?", Her frolic voice echoed.

"Shush! Don't make a noise. Somebody is going to hear us", I whispered to her.

"There is no one here, Dommy. Except for the widows singing eerie songs for their lovers"

"Widow?"

"Yes. Don't you know this town? Once, a wife killed her husband in his sleep for cheating on her. And in sorrow, she killed herself. From that day, she used to sing sweet songs for seducing men to marry them. And for your information, she loves young blood.", Goosebumps erupted as a slight whisper of a sweet voice heard from inside the building.

"You are so dead.", I chased her around the roof, our laughter mixed with the eerie.

"We are here to practice.", She took away the boom box, which was hidden inside the dusty room.

"What?", I said as I looked at the dirt and sand.

"Acro"

***

"Ready? Now lift me.", She said, her hands gripped tight on my shoulder ready to jump. I placed my hands on her waist, my heart hustled with great speed. But it's definitely not due to the intimate distance.

"I can't. I am not really good at lifting weights.", I stuttered as I looked down at the dry sand. The ground was full of sharp stones and little twigs, ready to lacerate her soft skin the moment she falls. And if I lose my strength, she won't just fall, she would crash into the hard surface.

"Can't we do this in cushions?", I asked. She looked at me confused as I was convincing her desperately with absurd reasons.

"Lesson learned this way are easier. Here, you will be more cautious on practice.", She paused for a moment.

"JUST lift", she ordered, as she jumped up with a slight jerk as I embraced her waist and lifted her up in the high air, placing her on my shoulder. She maintained a perfect balance on my shoulder, her arms and legs stretched out elegantly until my arm spasmed into a dull pain. In a flash, she slipped from my grip and hit the rough ground.

" I'm sorry", I apologized, regrets in my veins. I got up to help her, as she rubbed the stones sticking to her hands. Slight dots of red blood bloomed from the injury which she ignored.

"No. You are hurt.", I said as I caught her hand, slowly blowing air to calm down inflammation. She snatched her hand away from my grip.

"God! Christian, It's just a scratch. Don't feel sorry for that.", She laughed at me, our faces so close to each other that I was able to see her cute little dots of freckles on her skin and a tiny black mole on her lips.

"I'm so sorry for what happened today. He took revenge on you for helping me out.", I said, regrets weighing my heart down as the picture of her broken heart flashed in my mind.

"Christian! That isn't your fault. I should have practiced yesterday."

"But he did that to you on purpose. He didn't like you spending time with me.", I said with anger.

"Well! Then that's a good sign.", She blushed as she realized that David is getting jealous.

Rule number two: Get a muse.

"Well, that's rule number two of flirtationship."

***

"Perfect!", She mentored me, as I lifted her up high, with my hands placed on her tight abs. She swirled into a ball, maintaining her balance.

The lickerish melody trembling in the heavy air paced with the smooth movement of our hands, which slid in one another. Our body fondled in others embrace, fitting like a perfect puzzle piece. Her touch, soft yet steady started an electrifying shock over my body. Along with the mellifluous music, our hearts waltzed wild in the calm moonlight, sparking fireworks in its trail.

"And twist and hold.", She jumped into my embrace, like a feather as I snuggled her in a bridal hug, her hand entwined on my neck. Our bare forehead touched each other's, my uncontrollable breath fanning over her glossy face, which shined in the pale light. Her eyes reflected the tiny dots of the faraway street lights, glooming like shooting stars in a deep hole. I could felt the gluttonous warmth infecting the pure aura, my tense body pumped up with adrenaline, her enticing scent on my shirt. All I could now see is her, her eyes, her soft hair sticking to her face, her wicked lips twisted into a naughty smile.

Why is she smiling?

I looked up to see her noticing my greedy look. Her thick eyebrows were raised in doubt on her mischievous face.

Snap out of it!

I dropped her down, roughly as she staggered a bit. My treacherous heart paced with fear, knowing about my infidelity.

"You are more than I thought.", She said, surprised.

"What?"

What? She is going to kill me.

"Well, when you said that dance is your hobby, I thought you would be just good. But man, dance is in your blood. You could feel the song in an insanely good way.", She said, as she adjusted her slightly slipped dress to its right place.

She walked back to the radio to replay it.

"Your dance partner is lucky.", Enthusiasm overwhelmed her, as she came running to me before the beat starts.

Oh dear Lord! Not again.

"I wanna hold you when I'm not supposed to"

"Stop it", I snapped at her, as we walked with our bicycles through the eerie roads, lit by our flashlight. The chill wind is howling through the crooked wooden windows, awakening the dead souls. Chills erupted down my spine, whenever she sang a spooky song.

My fault! I told her to sing. Should have close my fucking mouth.

"When I'm lying close to someone else.
You are stuck in my mind and I can't get you out of it.", She sang in a ghoulish whisper, that would invite dead evils to gorge our throats out.

"God, that's freaking me out.", My skin lifted its setarious hair when the grim air caressed my skin with its gory hug.

"If I can do it all again."

"I know I'll go back to you.", Her whisper hit hard in my neck, skipping my heart beat. I shouted in panic, every whisper, rustle and shadows at that moment felt like a demonic illusion.

"I never knew you were this scared.", She laughed, which echoed in the empty lineage.

Soon we were at the end of the ghost town, the cherubic street lights welcomed us with the victory. I let out a deep breath, all my fears along with it.

"What's your favorite band?", I filled the awkward silence.

"My favorite band?", She asked as she looked up into thought.

Millions of stars lit up the dark sky, the pacific moon sleeping calmly in its warm bed of clouds. I could taste the delicately pure telluric dew from the damp soil, the perfume of fresh grass wet from the summer drizzle, the low buzzing of crickets. The earth in its most raw form.

"Against the current.", She shouted in excitement.

Against the current? Let me put that on Google Bookmarks.

"No. Today I'm not going you talk about me. It's about you.", She said, a comment from nowhere.

"What's so special?", I asked as we walked slowly on the calm road.

"I never knew anything about you."

"So let's start with your bucket list. I know you would definitely have one.", She exclaimed in joy.

She wants to know about my Bucket list. Not about my mom, my dad, my little dog, or my friends, but my bucket list.

Maybe we aren't that close!

"Well, I have four of them."

"Four?"

"Like seasons."

She looked at me, yearning for an answer.

"Summer, to snorkel with hundreds of tropical fish and scary shark feeding in Great Barrier reef.
Spring, to visit the spring cherry blossoms festival in Japan, treating myself with cheap delicacies. Autumn, to hike three days on the steep course of Grand Canyon, looking over the wild nature of Colorado with nothing but a bottle of Cheval Blanc.", I was in cloud nine, my heart contented with pure rapture on the thought.

"And winter?", She asked eagerly.

"Winter is kinda simple."

"Kiss me under first snowfall."
