Chapter Two
Hey heyyy!! So the last chapter was kind of like a prologue cause it shows the reason why she left her old school blah blah. I really hope y'all will like this chapter.
Picture of female lead is upp!!!!!
This chapter is dedicated to ur_favouritexx.
Enjoy!!!!!
School was over and I was walking home when I heard voices coming from our compound.
I wasn't surprised when I saw Mama Chisom and Iya Shakira exchanging words. Fighting was like a daily thing in this place.
"Iya Shakira, where is my meat?! Iya Shakira my meat. I asked you to help me watch it o. Iya Shakira......". Mama Chisom re-tied her wrapper, ready to pounce on Iya Shakira," Better bring out that meat".
Iya Shakira looked at Mama Chisom and she clapped her hands dramatically,"See me see trouble. Do you see me with any meat? Abeg, stop embarrassing me. Excuse me let me pass".
Iya Shakira was in her late 20s. She gave birth out of wedlock to a 5 years old manner less girl. Now, she has turned to an ashewo. Even with the money earned from selling her body, Iya Shakira was a theif. I still don't get why Mama Chisom asked her to watch the meat.
Egungun be careful
"You are not going anywhere. You passed me when I was frying the meat. I asked you to help me watch it so I would take tin tomatoes from my room. I came back to notice one was missing. You think I didn't count it abi". The look on Iya Shakira's face changed for half of a second," Better provide my meat or else".
I wasn't shocked when I heard Mama Chisom say she counted the meat. She was so stingy.
Igbo people are always like that. Stingy as hell!!!
No one dared to separate them nor settle the fight. Cause the "separater" will chop beating more than both of them combined.
"Mama Chisom, if you know what is good for you, leave my front o, I have places to go to".
"Which places? Eh...public toilet. Better provide that meat. I want to use it for Jollof rice"
Olivia , who was near me, rolled her eyes," There is God o. Cause of one meat "
Iya Shakira and Mama Chisom were on the ground. Mama Chisom was packing sand into Iya Shakira's mouth.
No body got up to seperate them gan.
Mama Chisom proceeded to sit on top of iya Shakira, "Your parents sent you to school you went to give birth. Shameless mother. You and that your rude daughter. Prostitute oshi".
That seemed to trigger Iya shakira as she slapped mama chisom. Now she sat on top of Mama chisom.
"Sophie, stay outside o. Dont come and eat. Until I finish the garri". I left the fighting scene to eat cause I knew olivia wasn't bluffing.
She was sitted on the floor as we had no chairs. It was a one bedroom apartment. We couldn't afford curtain so that one bedroom was where we spread our mat to sleep.
I quickly grabbed a spoon and joined her,"Where's mama".
"At her shop. How was school?"
"It was fine. Olivia, I'm going to Starlight Academy "
Olivia dropped her spoon," You are going where? If I slap you, who has money to take you there?"
"I got scholarship to the school". I blurted out. The scholarship letter came last week but I didn't tell them. Susan said that if I choose to go to SLA, then I am selfish. So I forgot about it. Really stupid shey? I know
Olivia's face lit up and she embraced me,"I am so happy for you little sister. You must complete your education"
I embraced her too. She kept asking me questions about how i got the scholarship until we finished the garri.
______________
Today was the day i was waiting for. I woke up extra early to bath. Nepa decided to be mean and not give us light for the past 5 days. I fetched water, showered and got dressed.
I wasn't putting on uniform cause I hadn't collected so I wore a pair of washed jeans and a white top. The armpit of the top was already looking brown and the Jean had a little cut. And no, it wasn't meant to be ripped.
I wore my worn out puma slippers, carried my old school bag and sat patiently on the bed.
The school was in lekki. Lekki,in a short definition, was where rich boys and girls lived.
"Mummy, good morning". I knelt down to greet her
"Morning my daughter. You know you have to leave now. I know you know your way. Be careful o. Stay out of trouble. You that you like amebo, mind your business.....". I zoned out.
I couldn't wait to see what made SLA prestigious
Is it the advanced scheme of work?
The uniform?
The place where the school is located?
The teachers ??
Or the students?
".......hope you understand ". I nodded my head even though I didn't get anything. "You know how things are, I dont have money to give you...." I caught her off
"Mama, It is fine. I will be fine. The scholarship covers my feeding too. So I will be okay. Byeee". I pecked her cheeks and left the room.
Day hadn't fully broken but it wasn't dark so I was able to differentiate my left from my right. Iya Shakira was in front of her door. Hairnet on her head and a small blue bucket in her right hand.
"Good Morning ma". I greeted as i passed her.
She looked up and analysed my dressing,"Good morning. And aren't you going to school". Iya Shakira was also well known for eke. She knew all the whole gists about everything and everyone.
She just likes amebo!!! Kia
I faked a smile,"Ma, I am going"
"Dressed like that?" She gestured to my outfit.
God help me....
"Please, I really need to go". I didn't wait for her reply as I walked away but I could still here what she was saying.
"All these small small children. She has no respect. No shame at all. I am sure she is going to boy's house. She doesn't even have breast o. She is doing gragra. Kai. Na God go epp am. E don spoil finish". She snapped her hands dramatically,"Oya Shaky, come baff"
(It is God that will help her. She is very spoilt )
I rolled my eyes and walked towards the bus stop.
I am doing this
There is no going back
