Chapter 5
Echo
»»————- ♔ ————-««
I asked Jonathan to drop me off at the bakery I left the motorcycle in. I wanted to take the motorcycle to College than the car with the flag. I had to come in early for the tour guide, and the Headmaster requested an audience from all of the students early in the morning. I sure hope it has nothing to do with me.
I paid extra to the baker as a form of gratitude. He cleaned the motorcycle even if I didn't tell him to do it. I started the engine and took off. I didn't get a chance to see if His Majesty is ok. For sure, he will have a hangover from the party last night.
The entrance of the school is ginormous! Like, giant's gate size. It has the school's crest in the middle of the gate. I saw elites getting dropped off by expensive cars, carrying bags that cost up to my monthly salary back in the force.
Students walk in groups like in the wild. I parked the motorcycle in the parking area and got off. I heard some students whispering behind my back. Yeah. Yeah. I'm a new student. Yeah, it has the royal emblem. Can they mind their own shits?
"Hey!" a guy walked up to me. I removed my helmet and hung it on the motorcycle handle. I looked up to him because he was very tall. He wore a sweet smile, thinking that I would fall for that.
"You new here? I'm Ethan." He extended his hand. I had no choice but to shake it without making him look like a fool in front of everybody. He started talking about himself, but I pretended to listen, but I was actually trying to spot His Majesty. I noticed someone snaked his arm around my shoulder.
"Echo!!" It was Khalili who approached me. Cadaver went between Ethan and me but was facing me. He was blocking Ethan.
"Hey Echo! Let me walk you to class." Cadaver then dragged me inside our school. Khalili was right behind us, trying to catch up. I tried pulling away from his grasp, but he was strong. I kept bumping into some students.
"Sorry!" I apologized. Cadaver just kept sprinting through the sea of students in the hall.
"Quit it!" I finally had the strength to get my arm away from this hold. We stopped in front of a library, I think. Two wooden double doors were leading to a room. I fixed my silver hair into shape and also fixed my uniform. The uniform on me looks trash. I was forced to wear skirts higher than my knee.
"You should stay away from Ethan, Echo." Khalili warned me. Do I look like someone interested in someone named 'Ethan'? He went up to me, not the way around. I'm glad they pulled me away from him. It just felt like he is going to talk forever. Such a talker! Not my kind of guy.
"Trust me. I'm not interested." Khalili clapped for joy. Cadaver, on the other hand, was busy searching around.
"What or who are you looking for?" Cadaver was kind of agitated. He pulled Khalili and me into the double doors. I was right; it was a library. He was dragging us across the room to the far left corner. I was confused why he was doing this. No one was inside the library because everyone was outside or in their respective classroom.
"What the hell?! Why do you keep on dragging me?" I rubbed my aching arm. I saw some light visibility in my arm. Cadaver paid for that. I hit his arm HARD. I heard Khalili laughing at us.
"Echo! Oh-ah OUCH!! I finally gave up hitting him when I felt satisfaction in seeing him hurt.
"Tell me, why are we here?" I was giving head signals to Cadaver. If he wanted to know my plan for the prince, he shouldn't have brought Khalili with him. This is a secret mission, and he happens to find out that I'm an agent. Unless?
"YOU TOLD HER?!!!" I gasped. I kept hitting him everywhere. He shielded my attacks with his arms. Khalili held me to stop beating up Cadaver. I'm going to kill me!!
"She accidentally heard us last night talking. She asked me after you guys left, and I didn't think of a good excuse. I'm sorry ok?! Stop hitting me!!" I calmed down but gave him a deadly glare.
"That is so cool! I can't believe you're an age-!" Khalili squealed. I covered her mouth to keep her from spilling. I know there is nobody here, but walls have ears, and I can't risk it. I told them to keep quiet. I let out a long sigh. I couldn't blame Cadaver anymore because Khalili heard it loud and clear. She should promise to shut her mouth to anyone.
"I won't tell anyone." She crosses her heart and hopes to die. I felt relieved. She hugged me again. I can't believe she's this nice. I expected people from prestigious schools are snobby and obnoxious. You shouldn't judge people by their cover.
"You two. Please keep this a secret. His Highness would become warier if he suspected anything from us three. I need to move freely and quietly, so, and please don't get in my way." I warned them. They agreed with what I said. They instead make an operation name.
Operation Royal
That is their insisted operation name. They force me to huddle in a circle. I didn't know what came over me, but I participated in it. We held out our hands in the center like what they do in sports. They told me His Majesty was in his classroom as we speak. He has Comm Arts in room 201. Cadaver handed out His Highness' class table. I needed that.
"Operation Royal commence!" It was more like a whispered chant. We dispersed and decided to go to class. I remembered I had to meet up with the principal in her office. Before truly splitting apart, I asked each of them where the principal's office is. They showed me the way and then left.
I knocked at the door. Her secretary told me so. I heard her say to come in, so I entered. I was surprised to see Her Majesty with the Principal. I paid my respect to both of them.
"Agent Echo, was it?" The principal was in her mid-50s' and had some resemblance with His Highness. They both had the same eyes and hair color. I would guess she is his sibling or extended family.
"Echo is fine, Madam." She looks more earnest than His Highness. I can't help but wonder about the relationship between them.
"Clarissa here filled me in with your activities. I can assure you that everything is arranged. But as you know, this is a prestigious school for excellent students both academically and socially. I hope that you can keep up with the school. Your job shouldn't affect your performance in school. You are still a student here. Have I made myself clear?"
"Yes, I will try my best to separate my job and my student life." I looked over Her Highness. I saw she was scared of her as well. She was just quiet. Principal Aporia advised me to be present in all school events because His Majesty is the student council president, and I should be present whenever he is involved. They wrote me up as the school's event planner. I knew I was going to hate that job.
"Thank you, Your Excellency. May I excuse myself? I have class in about.....10 mins, and I have trouble finding my classroom."
"Ah! Yes! Please tell Majorie, my assistant, to give you a school map on the way out." She smiled.
"Your Majesty. Your Excellency." I bid goodbye and walked through the wooden doors. Majorie gave me a map. It was a big help in finding my way from classroom to classroom. The classrooms were very similar to regular college rooms, but the only difference is the quality.
"Hi, I'm the Scholar. I'll be studying under your care, Mr. Holding." I gave my student slip and sat in the middle part of the room. There were only a few students around, so many chairs were still vacant. I didn't realize up until now that it was Mathematics. I loved Math when I was back in High school.
I know many people have a hard time with but not me. Math gives me a thrill. I know I love a challenge. If I get stuck on a problem, even in my head, I'm still solving it. After I wake up, I have the solution. That is one of the reasons why the agency approached me. They wanted someone good with numbers in their department. Being a field agent was not my first assignment. I was in the computer district, but I saw some agents and heard their stories. I wanted another challenge in life.
"Can someone explain what is derivatives?" Mr. Holding asked the whole class. Everyone avoided his gaze, but I raise my hand.
"The essence of calculus is the derivative. The derivative is the instantaneous rate of change of a function concerning one of its variables. This is equivalent to finding the slope of the tangent line to the function at a point." All eyes were on me. They were staring at me.
"At least someone was studying. Look at the board, guys. Ms. Solander? Good job!" He turned his back on us and started writing on the board. The girl next to me started talking.
"Hey, the new student, right? I'm Nini." she gestured for a handshake. I smiled and took that gesture. She has blonde hair in a ponytail, glasses, and a pen with a fur ball on top. I noticed all her things are colored pink. Pink notebook, pink pen, pink eraser, pink water bottle, and many more.
"As you can see, I like the color pink." she giggled; just like that, our conversation ended. She was just nice. The lecture went for a few minutes, then Mr. Holding ended it.
"Class dismissed." The students quickly headed out to the front door. They were in a hurry. As soon as I walked out the door, I saw a commotion outside. Is this why all of them are in a hurry?
I went closer to where the crowd is to see what was the commotion was all about. To my surprise, I found out His Highness was outside our door. He came up to me as soon our eyes met like he was waiting for me.
"Hey, can we talk?" He was waiting for me. I nodded my head and walked together. The crowd quickly dispersed. We went into an empty classroom. I sat at the teacher's table.
"What is it you want to talk about, His Highness?" He looked nervous. I don't know what he wants to talk about, but it looked pretty serious.
"Umm.......about last night." He used a small voice that I almost couldn't hear. Is he talking about me seeing him throw up in the streets? If that's what he wants to talk about, then I won't tell anyone. I don't start gossips. I hate gossips.
"Is this about you being drunk? All is forgotten, Your Highness." I thought the talk was over. I jumped out of the table and got my things. I think I have classes starting any minute now.
"Wait! It's not about that!" He stopped me in my tracks. Suppose that is not it, then what. He couldn't look at me. He was embarrassed? I couldn't know.
"Ahh......um........argh!" He couldn't say one decent word. I'm going to be late for class. I really have to go.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness, but if you cannot say if right now, then I cannot stay. I have a class which is about to start. Goodbye!" I walked out the door. I ran to my next class. Thank God I'm not late!
The day goes by quickly. The school was already over. At lunch, I sat with Cadaver and Khalili. Their other friends were still in class. Their cafeteria was huge. Size of two fields. It was delicious. The class was pretty much ok. It wasn't hard for me because I covered it back in my 2 years of College. I learned from Cadaver that His Highness has football practice after school, meaning I have to monitor him. Never been a fan of football. Too much testosterone!
I was sitting on the benches and reading a book as a cover. I bought a sandwich in case His Highness is hungry. When their break began, I went up to them.
"Hi! Your Highness, I bought you a sandwich and water." His Highness was surprised that I was even there. I know what this looks like. They think I like him, or I'm his girlfriend, but it was just of the well-being of His Highness. The whole team made some noise. One by one, they introduced themselves. Some tried to hit on me, but I didn't respond. After I gave him a sandwich, I decided to search the premises of the school gym. The gym was next to the parking lot, so I also searched there.
Near a green Toyota, I saw three men dressed in all black clothes. The men did not cover their faces. I hid behind another car to hear their conversation.
"Are we going to kill him?"
"ARE YOU NUTS?!! No! We are just going to mug him. Boss wants the Royal Family terrified."
"This is the Big assignment? A mugger to a College boy? What a nice assignment!"
"Shut up! Someone will hear us."
I heard Royal Family. They are here for His Majesty! I dialed the department to send some backup just in case. I forgot to turn off the sounds. I know they heard I sent that text.
"Who's there?!!"
Sh*t
———————————————————————————
New chapter up! Kind of a filler chapter, but look closely at what the muggers were saying. Maybe there are some clues.
Who is their boss?
Why are they after the Royal Family?
Stay tuned!
