Part 35

The rest of the day goes by, and I'm dreading my detention tonight. I've been trying to decide if I should go or not. I don't really want to attend any more detentions, after today, so I've decided that I will and try to get out before the moon rises. If I don't, I don't know what I'll do.

Finally school ends, and I make my way to detention. Tamara catches up to me.

"Where are you going? I thought we could wait for the moon together." She asks.

"Detention." I tell her simply.

"You can't go! The moon is due to rise in just under an hour."

"Let's just hope that they let us go early. Be safe tonight." I whisper the last bit, as I hug her.

"You too. Bye." She responds before pulling back, and half jogging out of the building. I sigh and enter the classroom. I ignore all the students as I walk to the closest seat to the door and fall down into it, after passing the slip to the teacher. I rest my head on my hands and stare down the clock, willing it to go faster. Every minute feels like an eternity, and with every eternity I can feel my animal prowling around excited to have free rein of us.

My phone vibrates on the desk. I look down at it, and see that my mom and dad are wondering where I am. I type out a reply to them discreetly.

"Miss Richardson." The teacher calls. I lift my head up, and give her an innocent smile. She reaches her hand out, palm facing upwards.

"Phone please." She commands. I groan quickly hitting send, before locking it, and handing it to her. She puts it down on her desk.

"You can have it back at the end of detention." She tells me. I roll my eyes and go back to watching the clock.

*^*^*

It's getting to a point where I can feel the moon starting to rise. I silently plead with my wolf, to hold off from shifting for as long as possible, hoping to get out of here before she does. The minute hand is creeping closer to the end of detention on the clock. I look down at the teacher praying she will let us go early. Someone must be listening to my prayers, because a minute later she sighs, looking down at her watch.

"Alright, you can all go." She announces. I hold back from cheering and jump out of my chair, and almost run to her desk, to collect my phone. She looks up at me.

"Can I have my phone?" I rush. She looks past me and says goodbye to all the students who are leaving. I widen my eyes at her, why is she ignoring me? Once all the students have left she turns back to me.

"Here is your phone." She says holding it out. I grab it thanking her quickly, before I run out of the classroom. I am halfway down the corridor when my evil bladder tells me to get to the closest bathroom. I sigh, looking out the doors. I have enough time; I can just see the moon. I avert my course and push the door open to the closest bathroom.

After relieving myself, I unlock the stall door. I go to the sink and wash my hands. I dry them on my pants as I walk to the door. I pull the handle, but am met with an unmoving door. I groan, and try pushing it, still getting nothing. I try pulling it again, but it's no use. I slam my hand on the door repeatedly, shouting to see if anyone is passing in the corridor. When I get no response I step back from the door, bringing my hand to my forehead, judging what to do.

I drop my bag, and close my eyes. I bring my leg up, putting my extra strength behind it, and kick the door. I hear a clatter and a loud thud. I open my eyes and see the door is on the floor across the corridor. I pick my bag back up, and return to making my way out of the building. At this point, I don't care about the door; I just care about getting out of here. I run to the exit, feeling relief flood me when I see the trees and the moon resting on top of them. I push on the door, only to burn my hand, without helping the door open.

"Shit!" I exclaim as I back up. I feel like everything is trying it's hardest to keep me in the school. I try the other door, but get the same result, my hand being burnt and the door staying where it is. I groan, and run to the other doors, not caring about my speed, but it doesn't matter because I get the same result. I try kicking the door, slamming into it, and hitting it, but it doesn't budge. I slide down against the wall, realising I'm probably going to be spending the full moon in the school. I try to unlock my phone, but am met with the same black screen. What is going on? It was fully charged this morning. I try again to no avail. I flip it over and take off the back to find the battery is gone. What the hell? I think back to detention when it was working. The only person who has had it after that was the teacher. I picture her face, and realise that I've never seen her around school before. She might just be a supply, but I doubt it, everything that has happened can't just be a coincidence. I look up from my knees, after something catches my eye. The same stupid flower shines back at me like a beacon, taunting me. I push myself up onto my feet, and walk into the closest classroom. If they want me here, whoever they are, then they I won't let them get their way. I pick up a desk and throw it at the window. It just bounces back. I shout out in frustration. How the hell did that not break the window?

I hear the door behind me open. Thinking it was the person who left the flower, I grab at the closest thing on the desk, which happens to be a pen. I look down at it despairingly, before looking up at the newcomer.

It's Heath.

"How did you get in? What are you doing here?" I question, throwing the pen at him. Is he behind all the flowers, and everything that is going on?

"I entered how everyone does – through the door. Tamara told me that you had detention, so I came because I was worried about and missed, you." He explains.

"All the doors are locked; you can't have come through the main doors." I counter.

"I arrived half an hour ago." He tells me sheepishly.

"Where have you been?"

"I was sitting in a class waiting for you to come out. I saw the others come out, and then the teacher, but not you. I waited a couple more minutes thinking you would follow, but you didn't."

"Didn't you see me running around?" I ask dubiously.

"No. I tracked you to the detention room, where there was a message on the board. When I tried to leave, I was locked inside." He explains.

"What did the message say?" I ask.

"It doesn't matter."

"Another secret kept from me." I mutter.

"What's that meant to mean?" Heath asks, having heard.

"It doesn't matter." I mimic his response.  "I see you're not listening to what Geraldine said anymore." I continue. A look of guilt and shame comes onto his face.

"I'm sorry. You were right. I shouldn't have listened to her." He tells me coming forwards.

"You may have forgiven me, but I'm told that you're keeping something from me. Everyone seems to know something about me, apart from me. Even, whoever these people are." I tell him, holding the orange flower I retrieved earlier, up. He looks from the flower to my face repeatedly.

"I'll tell you tomorrow. Let's just work on getting through tonight safely, right now." He finally tells me. I sigh rolling my eyes, it's always tomorrow. I walk around him, and out of the room. I walk down the eerily empty corridor, and look into the detention room. The board was wiped clean. Why is he keeping all these secrets? My skin starts to tingle, causing me to look out the doors at the sky. The moon was at its peak in the sky. I feel my bones shift and all of a sudden I'm on all fours. Having no control, I move back down the corridor and towards the classroom Heath is in. As I move past the lockers, I catch my reflection. My normal white wolf, now has a brown moon shaped patch over my heart.

It's only when I enter the class and see Heath's bigger wolf, do I remember what my new wolf reminds me of. I look closer and see that the patch over Heath's heart is the same color as my fur, and vice versa. For the second time in the day, this can't be a coincidence. Is it because we're mates, but my mom and dad don't have the same thing.

My wolf walks closer to Heath's rubbing against him, affectionately. Heath lets out a deep purr/growl, which would have me weak at the knees if I was in control.

Both our wolves walk around together, before falling down onto the floor, curled round each other.

Long update! I'm sorry for the long wait, I was trying to get this update perfect.

Why were they locked in the school?

What did you think?

What will happen next?
