Chapter Two
Hogwarts Express
THE FINAL week of summer break finally came to and end and all first year students where bubbling with excitement to join Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry to learn what they can of magic and to meet new people.
"Come on," Colleen quickly walked through the train station. Sure she had time, she ensured they were 15 minutes early, but still she was always in a rush.
"Mum we have time," Juliette panted as she pushed her trolly through the packed station.
"We have to get through this crowd of muggles," Colleen told her daughter as they made it to the brick barrier between platforms 9 and 10.
"Where nine and three quarters?" Juliette questioned looking up at the numbers showing the platforms.
Colleen just smiled, "together we are going to run the it between-"
"Excuse me," A boy spoke to the mom and daughter duo.
Colleen immediately recognized the young boy in front of her. Harry James Potter. The Boy Who Lived.
Colleen felt her heart stop for a moment as she stared at the thin boy with circle shaped glasses and dark brown hair looking much like his father other than his green eyes that where just like his mother's.
After a moment of collecting her emotions and memories of that Halloween night and the days that followed, Colleen cleared her throat, "yes dear?"
"Uh- the thing is-" Harry stuttered through his question, "the thing is- I don't know how to-"
"You don't know how to get through to the proper platform," Colleen finished for the stammering boy, a soft smile on her face knowing this boy was probably embarrassed. Harry's only response was a nod.
"Don't be embarrassed," Juliette spoke up, "I'm rather confused myself."
Colleen chuckled, shaking her head, "it's Juliette's first year as well so don't worry. All you have to do is run at the barrier between platforms 9 and 10. And don't stop and don't be scared or you'll crash," she explained, "why don't you go first and we'll meet you on the other side."
"Er— okay," Harry said, pushing his trolly around to be in front of the barrier.
For a moment the boy stood there before he started walking towards it, speeding up with each step. Finally going at it at a run, Harry disappeared between the two platforms.
"Is that Harry Potter?" Juliette asked when the boy was gone, "I noticed the scar plus I think I saw a picture of his dad somewhere."
"It is dear," Colleen confirmed, "and I want you to treat him as you would anyone else at Hogwarts, okay?"
"Okay," Juliette nodded her head before her mother started guiding her at a fast pace towards the barrier.
When the two blondes got to the proper platform, they spotted Harry waiting on them as Colleen suggested.
"Okay you two," Colleen smiled, "it's time for you to get on the train."
Juliette almost immediately wrapped her arms around her mother's hips, "I'm going to miss you," she muttered.
"Oh darling," Colleen sniffled, hugging her daughter one more time before she'd not see her til Christmas, "I'm going to miss you greatly as well. I'll write to you almost everyday and you must do the same."
Juliette hummed her agreement before pushing away from her mom.
Colleen took a small white cloth from the pocket of her emerald green pant suit and dapped her eyes, "now you two have a wonderful year and do great things."
Juliette hugged her mother one more time before her and Harry got on the train and found a spot to sit.
"OKAY MY little fox," Lana turned to look at her daughter as they stood on platform nine and three-quarters, "I want you to have a splendid year . Learn lots and do not do anything stupid. I'll be there but I don't know how often I'll see you."
"I wouldn't do anything stupid," Irene scoffed before she looked at her mother with slight anxiety.
"What is it?" Lana asked become concerned, kneeling in front of her daughter.
"What if I'm not sorted into Slytherin?" Irene asked, her voice low, "what if I'm not in your house?"
"Oh my sweet child," Lana smiled softly, placing her hand on the little girl's cheek, "no matter what house you get accepted into. Whether it's Slytherin or Gryffindor, I'll be proud of you. It is just a group that you are put in which the sorting hat determines you'll succeed best in. I will love you no matter what house you are in."
"Okay," Irene muttered, hugging her mother tightly, "I'll see you at school."
Lana placed a kiss on the little girl's head, "I'll see you at school."
Irene quickly made her way onto the train and began trying to find a seat which was rather hard considering most of the compartments were full.
"May I sit here?" Irene questioned once she found all compartment that seemed to have at least one more seat.
"Sure!" A blonde haired girl beamed grateful she was no longer the only girl in the compartment .
She was sitting beside a dark haired boy with round classes and bright green eyes. This boy seemed rather familiar but she couldn't place her finger on it. Then the other member in the cart was a red head boy with freckles all over his face which she determined was one of the Weasley's.
"I'm Irene Lupin," Irene proceeded to introduce herself as she took a seat, trying to sit comfortably in her Hogwarts uniform which she already despised.
"Your mom works at Hogwarts," The blonde girl stated, her blue eyes sparkling, "I'm Juliette Dumbledore."
"You are?" The red headed boy gaped, looking between the three people in the cart with him. They were all somewhat famous. Harry was the boy who live, Juliette was the headmaster of Hogwarts daughter, and then Irene was the daughter of one of the professors and head of Slytherin house at Hogwarts and all he seemed to be was him.
"Please don't treat me any different," Juliette pleaded. She always hated when kids recognized her as the daughter of Hogwarts head master or the daughter of one of the best Aurors the Wizarding world had ever seen, "I'm just Juliette, okay?"
The red headed boy nodded his head before realizing he didn't introduce himself, "I'm Ron Weasley."
"And you?" Irene turned her head to the other boy.
"Harry," The boy answered, "Harry Potter."
"Woah," Irene whispered, "wicked."
"Are all your families wizards?" Harry asked after a few moments of silence between the group.
"I think so," Ron answered, "I think mum's got a second cousin who's an accountant, but we never talk about him."
"Pretty sure," Irene answered, "my uncle was in Gryffindor. I've never met my grandparents but based on some of the things my mum had said that my grandpa was a wizard."
"Yeah," Juliette nodded her head, "my dad has a brother I'm pretty sure and he's a wizard. I've never met my mum's family because she says they're one of the worst kinds of witch and wizard to have as parents so."
"So you must know loads of magic already," Harry commented, seeming to be a little embarrassed that he didn't.
"I heard you went to live with muggles," Ron said, "what are they like?"
This seemed to grab the other two passengers attention because they both perked up wanting to know the answer.
"Horrible," Harry replied, "well, not all of them. My aunt and uncle and cousin are, though. Wish I'd had three wizard brothers."
"Five," Ron corrected, now looking a little gloomy, ""I'm the sixth in our family to go to Hogwarts. You could say I've got a lot to live up to. Bill and Charlie have already left — Bill was head boy and Charlie was captain of Quidditch. Now Percy's a prefect. Fred and George mess around a lot, but they still get really good marks and everyone thinks they're really funny. Everyone expects me to do as well as the others, but if I do, it's no big deal, because they did it first. You never get anything new, either, with five brothers. I've got Bill's old robes, Charlie's old wand, and Percy's old rat."
Ron proceeded to reach into his pocket to pull out his hand-me- down rat. ""His name's Scabbers and he's useless, he hardly ever wakes up. Percy got an owl from my dad for being made a prefect, but they couldn't aff — I mean, I got Scabbers instead."
The boy then looked out the window, his ears turning pink seeming to think he had said too much.
Noticing that Harry ended up sharing how he had to wear his cousin's old clothes that were ten times as big as he was.
"That sounds awful," Juliette muttered shaking her head at how miserable Harry's life must have been.
Harry hummed before continuing, "until Hagrid told me, I didn't know anything about being a wizard or about my parents or Voldemort —"
Ron and Irene gasped.
"What?" asked Harry who was confused at their sudden mood change.
"You said You-Know-Who's name!" said Ron, sounding both shocked and impressed. "I'd have thought you, of all people —"
"I'm not trying to be brave or anything, saying the name," Harry told the three, "I just never knew you shouldn't. See what I mean? I've got loads to learn. . . . I bet," he added, voicing for the first time something that had been worrying him a lot lately, "I bet I'm the worst in the class."
"You won't be. There's loads of people who come from Muggle families and they learn quick enough," Juliette reassured her seat mate.
Harry looked at the blonde, he was slightly confused why she hadn't freaked when he said Voldemort's name and he was confused why he felt some sort of pull towards her.
"Anything of the cart, dear?" A smiling older woman pushing a cart full of snacks and candies asked the group.
Irene jumped up almost immediately, her mother had given her extra coins to get a few snacks from the cart. She quickly picked out a few chocolate frogs wanting to add more cards to her collection, cauldron cakes and a few more treats that peaked her interest.
Juliette did similarly, she got a few snacks and candies that would hold her over until they arrived at Hogwarts.
Ron however turned pink and muttered something about having sandwiches his mum had made him.
To everyone in the compartments shock Harry practically bought the whole trolley, pulling out silver Sickles and bronze Knuts out of his pocket.
"Hungry are you?" Ron asked once The dark haired boy sat down.
"Starving," Harry answered taking a bite out of a pumpkin pasty.
Ron had taken out the bag of sandwiches his mother had made him and groaned slightly, "she always forgets I don't like corned beef."
"Swap you for one of these," Harry offered holding up a pasty, "go on."
"You don't want this it's all dry," Ron shook his head, "she doesn't have much time, you know with five of us."
"Go on have a pasty," Harry insisted.
Ron did end up taking some of the treats Harry offered and the group of four talked some more while snaking on their treats.
"What are these?" Harry asked the group, holding up a pack of Chocolate Frogs. "They're not really frogs, are they?"
"Oh No," Irene answered. "Check and see what the card is. The only one I'm missing Agrippa. Which I think might be impossible to find considering have an over two thousand of those."
"What?" Harry questioned, absolutely confused.
"Oh, crap, you wouldn't know, sorry," Irene responded, "Chocolate Frogs have cards inside them, they're of famous witches and wizards. I've got about over two thousand, but sadly I've failed to get Agrippa."
Harry unwrapped his Chocolate Frog and picked up the card. It showed a man's face. He wore a light blue three peaced suit, and had brown hair that was styled back and was starting to gray, and he had a beard and mustache the was neatly trimmed. Underneath the picture was the name Albus Dumbledore. "So this is Dumbledore!" Harry exclaimed.
"Oh yeah!" Juliette beamed, "that's my daddy. He's wearing his favorite suit that matches the pants suit mum is wearing on her card."
"Just got her card," Irene announced, handing it to Harry, "you can have it I got about fifty of her."
Harry turned Dumbledore's card around to read the back.
"He's gone!" Harry told them was he had turned the card back over.
"Well, you can't expect him to hang around all day," Ron responded opening his own chocolate frog. "He'll be back. No, I've got Morgana again and I've got about six of her. Do you want it? You can start collecting."
The group continued opening the chocolate frogs they had bought and talked on before Harry grabbed the bag of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans.
"You want to be careful with those," Ron warned Harry. "When they say every flavor, they mean every flavor — you know, you get all the ordinary ones like chocolate and peppermint and marmalade, but then you can get spinach and liver and tripe. George reckons he had a booger flavored one once."
"Daddy refuses to eat those," Juliette added, "he once got a vomit flavored one and ever since he's not cared for them."
"Your rat is eating the rest of the beans," Juliette pointed to the rat sitting in Ron's lap.
Ron sighed, shaking his head, "he's pathetic isn't he?"
""Maybe a little," Harry answered with a small shrug while Irene nodded her head rather aggressively.
""Fred gave me a spell that's to turn him yellow," Ron continued, "want to see it?"
"Yeah," Harry beamed, sitting up in his seat a little.
"There's a spell to do that?" Irene asked, a puzzled expression plastered on her face.
Ron proceeded to pick up his wand that was lying beside him and cleared his throat.
Before Ron could speak a girl with big bushy hair popped up asking them if they had seen a toad and that a boy named Neville had lost it.
"Oh you're doing magic?" The girl spoke her attention no longer on finding the lost toad, "let's see, then."
Ron cleared his throat again before speaking, "Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow turn this stupid fat rat yellow."
The spell however didn't work, it only seemed to shock the rat that looked around confused when the empty box that once was filled with different flavored beans flew off of him.
"Are you sure that's a real spell?" The girl asked with severe sass and bossiness to her tone, "well it's not very good is it?"
Irene held her hand up to her mouth trying not to laugh at the bushy haired girl's comment.
Juliette had a similar reaction, except she pursed her lips together attempting to keep her laughter inside.
"Of course, I've only tried a few simple ones myself, but they've all worked for me," the girl continued as she pulled out her wand and sat down between Irene and Ron, right across from Harry, "for example," she pointed her wand right in between Harry's eyes that had gone wide, "oculus reparo."
Harry's once broken classes that where only held together by tap where quickly fixed up making them look brand new.
"That's better isn't it?" The girl asked as harry removed his glasses looking at them in awe.
The girl proceeded to gasp as Harry and Ron looked at each other baffle, "Holy Cricket. You're Harry Potter. Oh you're Juliette Dumbledore. I'm Hermione Granger. and you two?"
Irene was smiling watching the encounter when she perked up more, "Irene Lupin. Pleasure to meet you."
"Oh," Hermione whispered, "your mum teaches care of magical creatures." When Irene nodded Hermione turned her attention to Ron, "and you are?"
"I'm Ron Weasley," Ron answered with a mouthful of chocolate.
Juliette looked slightly disgusted now understanding why her mother wanted her to eat with her mouth closed and not to talk while eating.
"Pleasure," Hermione responded not truly sounding like she meant what she had said especially since her face was a match to Juliette, "you two better change into your robes. I expect we'll be arriving soon."
The bushy haired girl then rose to her feet an headed for the door, "you've got dirt on your nose, by the way," she turned and looked at Ron, "did you know? Right there."
Ron rubbed at the side of his nose Hermione gestured at looking confused as she strode off, "mental that one," he muttered, annoyance flickering in his tone.
"I quite like her," Juliette responded, raising her chin and smiling.
Irene hummed her agreement. The three of them would be the best woman's trio the world had ever seen.
"Now you seriously need to go change," Juliette looked between the two boys who looked down at themselves and then got up to go find somewhere to change.
"What house do you think you'll be sorted into?" Juliette asked the brunette across from.
"I don't know," Irene answered, "I-"
"Slytherin should be your answer," a smooth, and cocky voice spoke from the compartment door, "after all it is the best house there is, plus your mum is head of Slytherin house. Though my father always says she's a disgrace to the name after she start associating herself with Gryffindors."
Irene shot to her feet, removing her wand and pointing it under his chin, "speak ill about my mother and I won't hesitate to pop your head off."
Draco's eyes were wide with fear as he glanced at the the two boys beside him and then Juliette, begging for help without saying it.
"Irene," Juliette muttered, pulling at Irene's robes and grabbing her attention, "you know not to use magic."
Irene rolled her eyes and put down her wand giving Draco prime opportunity to run off shouting that his father would know of this matter and she would be expelled which she knew was a lie.
"foul creature," Irene grumbled as she sat back down in her seat. She sat there the remaining of the ride in silence, thinking of why she felt a strange tingling on her soulmate mark and why she just felt weird when thinking about him.
"We're here!" Juliette announced when the train came to a halt, she was absolutely excited to be starting school at Hogwarts, and excited to see it. She had never got to go to the school even though her father was the headmaster, he always said he wanted her to be surprised when she first saw it along with the other students in her year.
People pushed their way toward the door and out on to a tiny, dark platform. Then a lamp came bobbing over the heads of the students, and a deep gravely voice spoke, "Firs' years! Firs' years over here! All right there, Harry?" The half giants big hairy face beamed over the sea of heads. "C'mon, follow me -- any more firs' years? Mind yer step, now! Firs' years follow me!"
"You're Hagrid!" Juliette and Irene beamed knowing who the man was because of their parents spoke greatly of him. The two girls looked at each other giggling ready to see everything they where only told about.
Slipping and stubbing, they followed Hagrid down what seemed to be a steep, narrow path. It was so dark on either side of them. Nobody spoke much. Neville, the boy who kept losing his toad, sniffed once or twice.
"Ye' all get yer firs' sight o' Hogwarts in a sec," Hagrid called over his shoulder, "jus' round this bend here."
There was a loud "Oooooh!"
The narrow path had opened suddenly onto the edge of a great black take. Perched atop a high mountain on the other side, its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers.
"No more'n four to a boat!" Hagrid called, pointing to a fleet of little boats sitting in the water by the shore. Harry and Ron were followed into their boat by Neville and Hermione, leaving Irene and Juliette with Draco and one of his other minions making them question where the second one was. "Everyone in?" shouted Hagrid, who had a boat to himself. "Right then -- FORWARD!"
And the fleet of little boats moved off all at once, gliding across the lake, which was as smooth as glass. Everyone was silent, staring up at the great castle overhead. It towered over them as they sailed nearer and nearer to the cliff on which it stood.
"Heads down!" yelled Hagrid as the first boats reached the cliff; they all bent their heads and the little boats carried them through a curtain of ivy that hid a wide opening in the cliff face. They were carried along a dark tunnel, which seemed to be taking them right underneath the castle, until they reached a kind of underground harbor, where they clambered out onto rocks and pebbles.
"Oy, you there! Is this your toad?" said Hagrid, who was checking the boats as people climbed out of them.
"Trevor!" cried Neville blissfully, holding out his hands. Then they clambered up a passageway in the rock after Hagrid's lamp, coming out at last onto smooth, damp grass right in the shadow of the castle.
They walked up a flight of stone steps and crowded around the huge, Oak front door.
"Everyone here? You there, still got yer toad?" Hagrid raised a gigantic fist and knocked three times on the castle door.
